For those who went to Salute... How did it go?
« on: April 21, 2013, 11:27:40 AM »
So Salute has come and gone and I bet Neil is busy today, unloading the Hasslefree stuff from the van before returning it. I would have loved to have stayed the extra night and joined the post Salute festivities but I had to get home... but there you go :(.

I turned up on the Friday and was let in before the van so I got to meet a few Frothers and help to set up a table and move a few bits around. We set the HF stand up apart from unwrapping the blister racks and setting up the miniatures in their cabinets and walked to the Travelodge (OK... me and Neil went to the wrong one first but it was worth it for the warm reception we received ). We all went out for a few beers and a meal and when last orders was called, were stunned to find that it was past 1AM!!

The day was constantly busy all day apart from when the painting comp was being announced and I think that there was a good turn out of punters.

I didn't really look at too much but the Frothers tables were excellent (if... to be blunt... you weren't permanently scarred by the Rev's table). Snit's Revenge was a worthy winner of innovative game.

I did managed to sneak away and get a few things so...

SWAG TIME  muahahahaha:

3 broken down, Corvus walkers that need a bit of work (a bargain for the price :) ).
1 GZG 'power-loader' mech (15mm).
2 Antenociti Spider weapon support platforms (15mm).
1 ALF from Four A miniatures.
1 Alien trooper from Four A miniatures.
5 Sharclons from Heresy Miniatures.
2 Graku and the mounted knight on lizardy thing from Twilight Miniatures.
16 Grymn in powered armour from Hasslefree miniatures.
1 Kev Adams pack from Wargames Foundry.
1 Salute 2012 mug.
1 Salute bag that contained a golden ticket (which would have got me a Kaiser Rushforth back pack if I'd bleeping checked), a show miniature, dice and a programme for the event... plus a few ads.

Yep... I think that about covers it :)

So... who went, what did you like and what did you buy?

I went and recognised you from your greatest hits on port/YouTube. You seemed pretty busy at the time, so I didn't heckle

Liked: being out with the boys with no ladies to keep us in line for a change; meeting up with some (over)familiar Frothers, the chaps from Otherworld and an old buddy from way back on the 4ground stand;  sitting in the glorious sunshine and chewing the fat over a pint or two outside The Fox; pointing out that my mate, Hugh the Hitchin plumber, is a dead ringer for Andy; supper in Whitechapel.

Purchases: the new Heresy gangers; Asterix pirates and Britons from the bring & buy; lamb chops, dry meat curry and a tandoori roti at Tayyabs (which is well worth visiting if you're ever in that part of London).

Here we go then :
Pre-order package from Hf (yes it did only contain 3 Powered Armour Grymn, Inso ) with adventurers, plastic zombies  and various other bits - the packing list Neil had in his hand looked scary -I didn't order that many minis - honest !  :paranoid2:

A couple of sharclons, Mullet the barbarian and the Ogre with table from Heresy - already put an order in for sharclons but hey another couple can't hurt......

Some not Blake seven minis from Crooked Dice

Couple of bits from Twilight

Six packs of mininatur/silfor grass tuft stuff (been meaning to buy some for ages so thought I would get a selection)

Some resin sacks and crates from somewhere

Some Sulaco bases from Fenris

36 inches of greenstuff !

Some paints.

Think that about covers it !

Oh thanks to whoever it was on the Fenris stand who came running after me with a Goblin aid badge after I put my change in the tin

Was it me or did there seem to be more people there this year ? It seems like we were waiting longer to get in this year

Glad you took the corvus walkers - I said to Ben you might be a willing buyer.

On Swag ...

12 Grymn in powered armour, plus some other Hasslefree dwarfy goodness.
Aether pirate mechanic, grymn sized fig from Anvil
Loads of Enigma space dwarfs from EM4 (for 1.50 a blister - a real bargain).
Salute mug off Akky
Some Kev Adams pack for Goblinaid
some trucks and stuff from Ainsty
Some fun creatures of Blightwheel.
A dwarf with drilling machine from Mantic
Some cavalry bases and a ladder from Fenris

Good show I thought. A few bits I didn't get this time round, including the new gangers and sharclons from Heresy - but they looked great and will be got soon.

 :D

A lot of Twighligt
Grymm PA troopers
Mesaans
some figures from Fenris
some Rogue miniatures
and a very long on-line shopping list
along with backache and sore feet
and some very strange looks on the tube back to the hotel until I removed the Goblin Aid badge, I think some people misunderstood what it was about.

I liked loads of stuff but limited my buying to:

The 5 BF3 esque HF figs
Warpy's Halfling Standard Bearer for my Blood Bowl team
Dark Star from Pulp City for my boy
Ainsty Doc + Emily Pond kindly donated by Jon
Zombiecide (which was really just picking up a pre order)
6mil Phil's RV in 28mm "scale"

I actually managed to leave Salute with more money than I went in with this year, much to the delight of the missus :)

I forgot to get the Decinii model from HF and the male zombie survivors from WGF, and in retrospect I wish I had got a couple more heroes from Pulp and the little house thing that Mike has made for Twilight

Still all in all it was a rather good show and it is always a pleasure to meet up with all the peeps I know from the forum :D

In between demo'ing Warmachine / Hordes over at the Waylands stand,

spent money on Heresy Figures, some stuff from Artemis Black, Anvil Industry and Statuesque Miniatures, along with my first gangs for Malifaux. Great deal of fun, either if I didn't have time to actually introduce myself to andy at Heresy or the guys at HF.
