Will things pick up, now the Olympics has gone?
« on: August 13, 2012, 07:33:22 AM »
Am I the only one who has noticed just how quiet it is on here at the moment?

Hopefully, now the Olympics have gone, things will pick up again.

I know it is the summer holidays as well... but it just seems unusually quiet on here :( .
The light at the end of the tunnel is just someone with a torch, locking the gate.

Everywhere in mini-land, by my reckoning. Quietest summer's sales I can remember :/
Too many ideas....way too little time.

It's been pretty quiet here for the last few months now. The sculpting comp has picked things up a bit. Time for people to paint more.  Including me

Quiet on here well before the Olympics started, not sure it'll change much to be honest.

I'm away at the moment and so absorbed by this whole "self-employed" balderdash when I'm at home I'm tending to only get cursory views and quick comments :(

I think a lot of people have moved to Facebook and Twitter for their news-needs. I'm adverse to posting my every passing thought on here as it would clutter the place up very quickly, but I do a lot of tweeting/fb'ing of those same thoughts. Aside from that, my workload is so immense now I'm back to doing everything myself again that there have been no new minis and stuff to talk about yet. :(

I enjoy twitter but this is always the place to go to go for pics of wips and painted minis - I think quiteness has more to do with the summer than it has to do with the Olympics.

 :metoo: :(

I might've mentioned this a while back. I appreciate why the various FOD companies are busy but for some of us simple fodders the forum seems to be dying a death right now :(.

I visit the forum every day I don't always have something to say though. I have noticed a drop off of posts over the last month which is sad to see.

My quietness of late has been down to the lack of a summer - working nights and the constant rain and overcast skies have left me feeling really down in the dumps  :(
I just realised this is the first time I have logged in for 11 days.......

The FOD has become a bit......stale/lost/uninspiring

I do visit most days, but it has lost its appeal and life!

As others have said, HF prefer facebook, Heresy Twitter, etc...

Also, it is the same people always posting and there is no real content!

I get all my figure and wargames news and views from elsewhere now

...and as others have said, it was way before the Olympics
I really like this jacket...
but the sleeves are much too long!

I think it lost a bit of sparkle when Grek died, but mainly it's due to lack of new releases and posts by the companies involved, some more than others, obviously. IE Not HF. They churn out tons of new releases!

Forums live and die on the enthusiasm of the posters, and without things to enthuse over, people drift away. Real life gets in the way, people get older and attention slips elsewhere, new companies come up with loads of money to throw at exciting new projects, etc

i still read stuff here.  i generaly dont comment unless i have somthing worth adding.  mainly due to my attitude being " it is better to be quiet and have folks beleive your a fool , than to open your mouth and confirm it"
though the fact i can say that and not have several people "quote" it and re-edit it to say something massivly differant is one of the resons im a member here, and still posting.
a happy dauber

Still checking FoD for news on shiny new figures. In general, do not like facebook, and all the BS on there.

Typical. I go off to uni for a few years, and just as I get back, everyone else decides to quit the forum. I wonder if I should take that personally?

Don't worry Balgin. In the end, it'll just be us two on here, grumping about the good old days, whilst Inso posts Grymn-based fan fiction. :silly

Still here.

Still planning stuff but not doing.

Seeing very little from fod companies I like to comment on.

Tried to drum up some enthusiasm for making show displays since I was let down by mike at twilight but it seems no one wants my services or can't be bothered to reply.

I live in hope though

I'm still here.  Still commenting on this and that.  I just got home from my vacation/family reunion.  Still posting pics of my dark brethren.  Got home to find my latest order from Andy waiting for me.

Your boards are wonderful as far as I can tell. Would love to have some for myself at some point. So the that appeared at salute for instance, how much is that worth?

Also, i doubt Mike would inentioanally let you down but I haven't seen any new releases from him, he'd have to be producing figs and selling them to pay you for more boards and terrain I would have thought?

As for selling boards, what you've made has always been fab but times are tough and money's tight

As for the other thing
Also, i doubt Mike would intentionally let you down

That. Maybe time to let things lie?

I never tried to sell boards to anyone. Ive offered to make them for free to display my terrain with others' figures at shows. No money has ever exchanged hands.

As to the board that was at salute 2011, there's probably £200 of materials in it, not including labour, transportation etc. it's currently lying on the floor of my garage gathering dust...

Not thought about it to be honest.

£100 of materials, around£150 for my building kits that are on it, plus the investment in building and painting time. It's probably a cost of over £500.

But it's only worth what someone will pay...  Make me an offer...
