Hi Guys

This post will be in two parts, a short sum up and then a longer part with details and explanations of the first part, so you can safely skip that part if everything you wanted is in the first bit :)

First Part. I'm sorry. The lack of information here is completely and utterly my fault. It wasn't fair to the people who took the time to enter the competition and I can assure you my apology is heartfelt. However, it was (mostly) just a lack of information, we hadn't ever forgotten it, it got pushed back for various reasons but was always going to be resolved and each time there was an update in the newsletter that's actually what we did.
The current status of it is that everything that could be cast has been cast. That's the good news. The bad news is twofold a) lots of stuff simply couldn't be cast (I think maybe a third was rejected straight out) and b) some of the stuff that was cast didn't make it through intact and some of 'that' didn't end up with a good mould either.
This coming week all participants will be emailed by Jenn. That email will include the info about your own entry, what you will be receiving as a reward for entering and a code that you can use to order anything else either from the contest or in general. Over the next 2-3 weeks this will be completely resolved and you should all have received your entries back along with the rewards for entering :)

Right, the long part.

First, the apology. It's is real, but it does come with some future conversations attached. I am guilty of sometimes forgetting the FoD exists. There'll be a longer conversation about that soon in a thread of it's own so please don't reply to this bit right now :) It means I sometimes miss it when someone asks a question on a thread like this (If I miss the first notification then I don't get any more). The move has also eaten up way more of my time than you'd think, we've been back and fore to Wales numerous times, meetings with banks and accountants and lease agents etc.

As for the time taken itself, the simple fact is that the contest as designed was inherently flawed in that it couldn't easily take into account the snowballing of entries. We had to work around this. The number of entries meant the number of moulds needed to sort things was higher and the gap needed to fix those moulds into our moulding schedule was bigger. We never found that gap. We've been gearing up for the premises move for quite some time as it will be reasonably expensive and whenever a gap looked like it would appear something else came along, Salute, The Trip to the States etc. Things we had to handle to make sure business stayed even more strong than usual to enable this current premises move to happen. To coin a cliche, it wasn't personal, it was business. Instead what we did was, in a simplistic manner, save up little gaps and use them all together this past 2 months.

Right, as for the minis themselves. The ones that didn't get moulded, mostly, had 2 things in common. The first was that they had parts of the mini on the wrong plane e.g a gun facing straight forward. These simply can't go into a mould as they would never come out. The second was that the green stuff, or other putties/clays, weren't adhered to the armature well enough e.g. gaps down behind boots or under clothing etc. again, that would just tear out the mould when you pulled the first one.
The ones that were moulded also had a few issues like that, but mostly survived casting. What we did find was a fair amount of them came back with mould lines as parts had been squashed during the moulding process (maybe there was some air under the green stuff or the putty uses didn't hold up to standard casting). For these freebies going to you gus there's not much we can do about that I'm afraid. There 'will' be some clean up necessary.
Some of the minis we will clean up some copies of ouselves and make production moulds and add them to our website, in a similar way to the 'Dress a Kevs'. They may not be all the winners as it will depend on what survived the mould and how and a few other things. We'll inform the entrants of the ones that get made shopworthy in person.

I think that's everything, if I remember other things (or you remind me with questions) I shall be checking this regularly to make sure that the contest is wrapped up in a timely manner.

Lastly, I thought, some of you especially, would like to see this...

Awesome glad to see stuff has moved along, really learnt a lot from the competition even if it's a bit late to have learnt it (I can see why mine probably wasn't castable now). Been meaning to get an order in too as there's a few bits I've been meaning to get, and I know for sure the other half has been wanting 'Fairies wear boots' for a while now.

To be fair to some of the minis that coul;dn't get sculpted it wasn't that they couldn't full stop, it was that the couldn't without being 'fixed' in some way. Unfortunately building onto a solid armature makes that considerably more difficult (when you need to cut an arm off or something) and also if the green stuff/other putty didn't look incredibly stable then it woudl have fallen apart during the attempt anyway.

A lot of the greens came back with half the green stuff fallen off. Or parts broken etc. Hopefully those minis got decent moulds so the metal will make up for it. There's still a fair few to go through and sort, Jenn is on it! :)

Wonderful news and I'm very glad to learn that progress has been made!

Artemis; thank you for the long overdue update and explanation; it's much appreciated. I certainly understand the underlying reasons for the long delay and you have my sympathies regarding the workload; I can certainly relate to that ;-)

It's a shame to learn that not all sculpts were viable for casting, but that was, of course, to be expected. Fingers crossed that mine was good enough, but I won't be holding my breath. I can't even remember anymore if I actually washed the base mini before I started sculpting. If not, that's a lesson learned for sure...

I'll be awaiting the next update and/or email with much anticipation! :-)

Got an email.

"(This is particularly recommended if you entered from a country with a particularly dubious postal service :) )"
That includes the UK then. A pox on Royal Fail.

To clarify, everyone is getting a set of the winners, runners up and HF's choices, then anyone who had any of their entries successfully cast also gets a copy of their own castings, is that correct?

From the email: "Your entry, (or at least 1 of your entries, if you entered more than one), was cast successfully"
 :woohoo:  :woohoo:

Quite an excellent way to start the week with that news!

I'm really curious about the HF-Choices. Artemis states that they'll post 'better pictures of those tomorrow', but I didn't see any pics to begin with.

Unless the latest picture posted on here are the Choices, and I'm a doofus for actually assuming those were the winners... :whah?:

I read some of the messages here and can't decide whether people haven't noticed that there is a big move going on or are ignoring the fact.

I have an idea, lets all keep asking questions all the time so that they have to be answered... that way Artemis and Co. can stop what they are doing and answer them instead of finishing off the move and actually getting to a point where they have firm information to dish out.

Cut the people some slack. Let them breathe and sort things out. It's been two years... a few more weeks isn't a big thing in the scheme of things.

I am as keen as the rest of you to see my miniature in metal but sheesh... give them the space to get things sorted, can't you :) ?

I get that you're supposed to be on the defense for the companies here but that doesn't mean you ought to be on the offensive toward the people actually visiting the forum.

As you said, it's been two years. I'd forgive people if they've run out of patience in that time, and I'd point out Artemis also said this comp would be wrapped up before the move. I would therefore think now is the right time for people to be asking questions.

I'm not saying we should all be bombarding them with unnecessary questions but we also shouldn't be getting our heads bitten off for asking simple and relevant ones.

Just my observation.

I did not find anything offensive in Inso's post.
