About to put him into a low-temp mould, but he's sculpted in Uro and i have no idea how successfully this will go. All going well, he'll be online to pre-order this evening (four hour mould time, plus casting, cleaning up, etc). plan is to cast him in metal to begin with, a limirted run, probably of about 500. Including metal base!. Later, resin. Right now, I need the money and can't wait three months to get him resin cast so am risking it all on this mould.

Fingers crossed!

Will let you know later...

This pic should give some idea of how big he is, hopefully, he's on a 40mm display base if that helps:

Wow he looks fantastic, Andy. You can see a real progression in terms of raw sculpting ability, but first and foremost that's a fantastic model. The trademark humour's in there I love the cauliflower ears and base and the details and pose are exquisite. :)

Still an hour to go on the mould at this point (it's technically supposed to be cooked by now but I find the best way to avoid annoying little areas of details that haven't cured - ie have remained gooey rubber rather than hardened rubber - such as around the eyes, is to leave it in there for much longer than strictly required).

The suspense is killing me...

Click here to see Big Boris 3 in the shop!

Well, that was a bit of work - need to get some high-lead content metal in to cast the masters as they were pitting something awful in the silicone mould! Managed to get some 'clean' castings in the end, have given them a quick going over with a file and some spraypaint, and Big Boris III is now officially available to pre-order - and at a discounted price if you do pre-order him! Metal cost is so high these days that he shoudl be 25.00 to allow for trade discount but since I desperately need the cash still, if you pre-order him instead of waiting, you can get him for 20.00, You can save a little more if you don't want the metal scenic base but where's the fun in that? Everyone likes a severed wizard hand gag, surely?

There are only 500 to be cast, I have no idea how quickly they will sell out, and as mentioned i really need the cash, so don't hang about if you fancy one, put your order in right away so I can pay my various loans etc next week! It'd be much appreciated, and a big thanks to those of you who already placed an order for trooper! If you want to place an order for BB3 and combine the orders, let me know and I'll refund the difference in what the shipping should have been. or if you want to collect it at Salute, again let us know using the comments/info box on the shopping cart and I'll refund the shipping. (Make sure you turn up on the day though!)

When I clicked the shop link, stock count said 497.  By the time I completed my order it was 489.  Here's to selling out by Friday!!

It does, it really does.

I should now have enough funds in the account by Monday to pay my mortgage and Craig's wages! :boing:

I can't thank everyone enough, it certainly makes the last fortnight of not seeing my wife or all this glorious sunshine seem a bit more worth it. Not done yet, though, still a few figures to try to finish before Salute!

Tried to buy it but can't remember my password :erm:

I'd have loved it if you'd had time for a resin version. How did the master turn out in the end?

Kev, you don't have a customer account on the site - that was the old shopping cart you're thinking of, it didn't really store any details.

The master was only partly knackered - it didn't distort, which was important, the main damage was his left arm being ripped off (I had cut it off and repositioned it a week or two back and the join wasn't really solid, just glued and thinly covered with a skin) and various small areas of procreate/gs coming off the Uro layer. Uro is great for musclework, but not good for hard edges or fur - had to re-do his snow-troll fur boots as they turned out to be just blobby lumps of blobbiness under close inspection. My main issue with it was that the silicon of the mould, as feared, got into all the little details eg between the fingers and one of the rune sections, and didn't sure, so the axe has to be remastered due to lost detail. (And fixed as it delayered and cracked from the heat and pressure.)

There will be a resin one at some point, or that's the plan, anyway. Will fix master up and get it done after the metal one runs low.

Andy, do you have any more info on the new lead alloy?

Don't mean to be arsey in any way.

But I haven't bought a figure that contains lead in a hell of a lot of years and it will take a cast iron, set in stone guarantee that it's perfectly safe. For me to start now.

LOL, I know what you mean. I'm a bit paranoid about it myself, but then I remember how much of it we used to swim about in at GW and Foundry and it's fine, honest. Hasslefree figures have it in them I believe, as any company that uses Gryphon to do their casting has that alloy.

I'm not certain how much lead is in the standard alloy, but I can tell you that the whole reason people got worried about it in the first place, according to the industry chatter back from when i worked at the bigger companies, was that someone did test on a miniature that was covered in lead paint and found it to have high levels of lead. Lead paint being 100% lead, pretty much. The standard comment is that you would have to eat a hell of a lot of miniatures before you got lead posioning, and you'd die of all the pointy bits long before that.

So, yes, it's actually safe at the consumer end as the levels are so low and you undercoat stuff. At a casting level, I believe one has to start having blood tests as you potentially handle it all day with bare hands, and breathe in fumes from the melting pot, but then again, at Foundry there was a culture of not wearing the safety gear that would prevent this being an issue.

Hasslefree figures have it in them I believe...

They do?

Crap...

I'd better stop eating them then.  ( Hmmm, but they're so tasty. )

Fair enough then.   Had a scare at one point and it put me off a bit.   Loads of talk of blood poisoning and figures falling apart with lead rot and stuff.

But if i've been handleing it with out realising then that kind of blows my not touching it with a bargepole stance out of the window, and... oops. too late now to start worrying.

I know it won't help with this weeks problems. But i'll have a look at my finances this weekend to see what sized order I can stick in. ( Been stuffed money wise myself just recently. )

Should be able to manage something though.

I've been doing that since seeing the photos! Bloody nice work Andy :D looking forward to seeing pics of one in the high lead content metal without the pitting, as the photos of the putty version looked lovely and smooth. I really like his bad-ass face now, that side of your sculpting has improved a lot since the last boris!
