Where else do you go?
« on: March 09, 2012, 09:26:06 AM »
Apart from the FOD and Facebook, what forums do you mostly go to and why?
A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather & ask for it back when it starts to rain.

most mornings i wake up grumpy.   sometimes i just let him sleep.

my life consists of brief snatched moments of living my life hidden deep among chaos, confusion& the  going crazy, every night i go to sleep filled with hope & enthusiasm for the new day coming.  then i wake up & think "here I go again" & just aim to survive.

I've started up a little bit on minisculpt forum (vermis' work) not too much on there though. Dogs of War, Micropanzer (although that forum seems to have stopped all of a sudden) This place is easily my biggest time waster though. 10 x more posts than all other forums combined easily. Mostly just to check out miniatures etc

1. Board of the Living Lead. It's devoted to zombie gaming and all things zombie related. Not surprising it is my favourite forum. Sorry, FoD!
2. World Works Games forum. I'm a big fan of card modelling and their products are the best on the market.
3. Post Apoc forum. I like post apocalyptic games, as it covers zombie gaming. Plus, it's a fun place to hang out.

I don't do facebook - I think there t&c are invasive.

For miniature painting and modelling related forums; I frequent wamp because it seems pretty active and pretty friendly, ozpainters 'cos there are lots of good painters there.

I occassionally look at Platoon Britannica and Planet Figure.

I think the main reason I like the fod (and similarly wamp) is it is friendly and it doesn't have that cmon attitude of only particular painting styles being appreciated and if it's not "wow omg amazing" then it's "bumfudge".

Various other unrelated forums I'm sure.

As a side note the fod seems to have been pretty quiet lately.

I have my Blogs and visit any of the Blogs on there when they update (Vampifan's, Dropship Horizon etc.)
Forums I visit are:

Frothers...because it is Frothers (freedom of speech etc)
Warseer, Work in Progress, The Ammo Bunker, Dakka-Dakka,Space Wolf Community... in order to try to educate the GW crowd that there ARE other miniatures out there.
The Miniatures Pages... for news.
Tabletop Gaming News...for news.
Space Dwarfs On Line... for Space Dwarf related browsing.
Scotia Grendel forums... for Void/Kryomek news.
Lead Adventure Forum...mostly for the Future Wars section.
Bolter and Chainsword (very rarely).
Miniature Heroes...It is a friendly place and I have been made a Help Knight and master of Grymn (so I feel very special !)

I browse the posts on the above forums to see what people are building/painting and post my work as well. I generally look at little more than the painting/modelling parts of those forums and don't bother with rules and specific company news items (most are GW forums and I tire of all the rules arguments...so I don't bother with them).

Only really TMP (for new release news, mainly) and the Crooked Dice forum (I really like 7TV - it appeals to my love of 60s & 70s cult TV).

Wait just a minute now... You're telling me there are *other* forums?!  :jawdrop:

...honestly, I don't frequent many, but I have been thinking about joining up on something like WAMP or Frothers just to get some other points of view on things. ...and I do enjoy taking a look at all the zombie and Cthulhu-based stuff that gets posted on the Lead Adventure forums.

Other than that, though, the FoD is it for me.  :yup:

Most of the same forums as Inso as well as Trek-Rpg.net and Empire.net. I have written a few gaming supplements for the various Star Trek Rpgs.

Frothers, Minisculpture.co.uk, Lead Adventure Forum (even finally registered there recently). Sometimes I'll have a look at conceptart.org & planet figure, not often enough to even consider registering though.
Don't use facebook (and most likely won't ever register there) unless someone posts a link to some minis, really hate how more and more companies mainly post news on their facebook pages and not on their websites/ forums.

Where else do I hangout on t'internet?

I have started hanging out at Frothers, if only for pics of miniatures and paintjobs.

I spend a fair amount of time on the Trekrpg forum where I am one of the Moderators and contributors for the (now long dead) ICON Star Trek EPG system from Last Unicorn Games...

Facebook used to be a biggie but I have backed down a bit recently as my Smartphone has better games and more convenient.  I also hold a Livejournal that doesn't get too many updates now that I am married with kids (and not Emo enough...)

My email (ever hopeful for updates in a Star trek PBEM that I run that seems to be tailing off again)...

And of course the IMDB and IMFDB to settle arguements during TV programs and movies.

That all keeps me quite busy enough these days.

Frothers: because sometimes there are a few golden nuggets of sweetcorn in the ocean of brown. (And sometimes it's just sh...)

TMP: same.

Mini Sculpture: It'd be odd if I didn't.

Conceptart: I go here more than Ink.  Enough that I registered and started a sketchbook thread; but I mostly lurk, look at instruction and critiques, and try to let it make me feel all ar-teest-ic.

Some other places visited infrequently; CMoN, Planetfigure, Warseer (much less since a couple of the mods swivelled on their sticks to face my direction), Tactical Command (home of Epic, the game that showed this 40K sprog what real wargames were, and that GW were capable of them), etc.

Frothers- rarely post but do lurk and laugh at some of the stuff on there.

Miniature Heroes Forum.

WAMP-lurk mode, not good enough painter to post on there.

LAF- this is the one i find myself visiting the most these days, very active forum and i'm more and more getting into historicals.

Facebook- sometimes, not as much as i used to.
