Fairplay but to be honest I wouldn't go by much that happens on the TMP message boards.

But suggesting its ironic implies that there is a level of annoyance. I am not sure how far back it goes but there have been several polls on here about what people wouldl like to see next and at least one of those polls included crabmen which was a long time before fall last year. So I should imagine that Andy was having ideas and maybe even concepts prior to you posting pictures on the TMP.

This isn't a dig really - just a reality check. Again I don't really see the irony because its just as possible that you have seen the poll on this website and due to the knock back about the dragon concepted some crabmen just to throw back at Andy. I am not suggesting this happened at all but I don't see where there is any irony involved really. Could it also be that Andy planned to do his dragon in 15mm at some point too? He has mentioned making some smaller scale stuff in the past (I think something else in a poll as well).

Those troopers are sweet! mostly enjoying the variety of heads and armour, not to mention the little boot laces!

Might have to get a few of those...

A 15mm version of Andy's dragon would still be a large dragon by a 28mm scale.So I can see Andy's point

Hey Jon
I posted the original post here before you and I had a chat about it, based on the rather abrupt email you sent me which implied a certain degree of bemusement on your part, whatever was actually intended. Since then we've chatted on email and I assumed it was settled.
I'll happily post the entire two email conversations if it will help clear up certain matters for anyone who was confused about the idea that two people might independently come up with the idea of a crabman figure, especially if one of them had spent a lot of time replaying X-Com terror From the Deep prior to doing his WIP crabman that he'd been planning for a couple of years. ;)

Does that mean you'll make some troopers with vibro-drills to take down your crab man.
I've gotta crank that game out again.

Love it.  How would you like to make one half-size (15mm), for my company?
Don't hate me for asking, I know we already discussed commish and you're busy with your own stuff.  I just couldn't resist.

@Beefcake
That was one of the ideas, yes! I was trying to think of how you might do a technologically advanced Crab Fork of some kind...

Anyway, Crabbie in 28mm or 15mm scale is off the List of Doom at the moment. I will still be doing them for my 15mm sci-fi line, though, so Jon should be aware of that. Along with cow-men, fish-men, dog-men and all the other mutated earth-creature slaves the Feebloids came up with. BUt that's the distant future, I've got at least 2 or 3 years worth of stuff to do before then that will make more money! I am in need of widely desirable commercial models and the Troopers are a better investment at this point in time.

LOL, this one IS 15mm scale, Jon ;)
When I finish it, I am going to cry tears of relief and then get on with the gazillion other things I have been wanting to sculpt instead of it. Who knew it would take this long?? (Well, everyone but me, probably)
Cheers

Would you object if I put one of my putty pushers on it to make one like it but in 15mm, erm, I mean 8mm?  It's your design so I would entirely understand if you do.  Let me know, thanks.

I suppose I would really, having broken my back to think this one through; but why not just get them to do one of their own design anyway? They'll enjoy it a lot more and you'll get a better result out of them. If they're anything like me or the sculptors I've hired over the years. Plus people won't look at it and say, 'He's just copied the Heresy dragon.'

Quote from: Khuarasan Miniatures

Well, that would be a GOOD thing if it looked like the Heresy dragon!  But I will bow to
your desires and stay away from the design.  Totally understandable really, though it depends on the
artist.  When Dragonblood came out with their lizardman lord I was wowed by it and asked Eric if he wanted to make lizardmen looking like that for me in 15mm and he declined, so I asked him if he'd mind if someone made lizardmen for me in 15mm inspired by his lord and he said no he would not
mind.  I'd never do it without asking though; you've put a lot into this so it's your property.

Guess it would help if I had a 15mm fantasy line to put it into!  lol

atb,
jon

And then after the WIP crabman pics appeared on TMP (Forgive me, I'm copying from the emails you sent me as I'm on my home PC at the moment and don't have the full emails that I sent from the workshop on record except where you copied them in your emails)

So from this brief missive, I assumed you must be pissed off. No hello, or even a name or anything, you see. I replied to you and posted my comment on here, as I was a little embarassed to have done something that DID look a slightly like your concept sketch, but totally by coincidence. As I explained in this email to you (and at this point, TBH, I had forgotten about the dragon thing, your previous email having been whisked away to the archive folders).

Well, yeah, it's a crabman. There's only so much you can do with the concept. I had a good google before I started mine and didn't see yours. (I hadn't aseen it on TMP either, as I rarely check the boards there). I prefer it! It's much more like what I had in my head when I
started sculpting, but with less limbs.
Are you upset about this or something? Normally people at least leave their name and say hello when they email me ;)
All the best

Well, it would be ironic if it was deliberate, but it wasn't deliberate.
What you suggested last spring was to deliberately, identically duplicate my dragon design but smaller.
What I have done is get halfway through sculpting something generic that looks a bit like a crabman you've done because the source influences are similar. In my case, I've been playing a lot of the classic 90's computer game Xcom: Terror From The Deep, which features lobstermen, and I wanted to do something along those lines. I sugested doing crabmen last spring, too.
http://forum-of-doom.com/index.php?topic=10708.0
So by your logic, you got the idea from me ;) Except of course you didn't.
This is  the miniatures industry and crabmen aren't an original idea so it's just one of those things where people work on stuff in parallel without the other party knowing about it.
In any case, I wouldn't worry about it:
1) Yours is tiny, mine is 57mm tall. No-one is going to be confused.
2) I'm not gong to finish this one 'as is'. I already abandoned it for the time being. If I go back to it it will have multiple legs instead of the two swimming legs (which are based on the Mirelurk, I assume you've seen that.

In fact the main figure is based on the Mirelurk, which looks a lot like most crabmen do) and it was going to be a lot more spiky and crustaceous.
I just wish I had seen yours when I googled 'crabman' and 'crabmen' at the time. I didn't google 'sponk'. Hadn't heard of it. If I had, I wouldn't have bothered going as far down the crab-like direction that I did.

Yes, of course!  I meant ironic from my perspective.

All the best,
http://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com

And that, I think, was that, wasn't it? Are you saying people have contacted you since then to complain about this crabman looking like your Sponk figure? Or did you just spot this thread and figure I must have been 'having a pop' (as they say round these parts) since the chat we had? If so, you're mistaken but please accept an apology regardless if I have inadvertently caused offence.

Right, looks like that only lasted two rounds tops.

Anyway - what else have you got planned for the troopers etc Andy. I am thinking squad support weapons etc. I am thinking a small rocke launcher or rpg, a small flamer, squad support mmg type.

And will you be doing a sprue of the rifles the troopers are armed with?

Seeing as the Trenchcoat Gangers have such a nice chaingun, it would be nice to see the sci-fi troopers getting one too.

Yes, maybe with a bit more casing to represent more recent tech and better build quality. Black Market weapons are never the most reliable after all.

I like the female troopers rifle better anyways. I say that should become the new standard firearm.

SO lets see those head variants you promised Andy, itching to get to grips with these, also a trooper sniper would be a great addition. Could we also have a flame unit (flamer) small, say M16 sized with canister and flame nozzle, be good for your troopers and good as s weapons pack addition as I have some colonial marines that require then. ;)

Cheers

Any new trenchie goodness to get me excited about and/or counting my pennies for?

Only a gentle poke as I do realise that the Dragon is taking up a bit of time at the moment and is a matter of priority.

One of the first things on the list after the Dragon is more trenchies, (along with rejigging the goblins, new troopers and a new Hürn. And everything else on the Wall of Doom in my office.)

I don't think I'll ever really run out of trenchies to do, i have at least 6 more planned, and even that's excluding all the Noobs I could do. There will be more gangs, just a question of deciding which ones would sell best and be most fun for me to sculpt.
