Information / What is a typical HF customer.
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:20:05 PM »
A Hasslefree Miniatures request for some help.

Basically how, what, where and why!!

Just a bit of market research please guys if that is okay.  You dont have to reply to everything.

Up until January 2007 i could tell you the generalisation of a typical HF customer but this year has been so manic that it is one thing that i have taken my eye off so am politely requesting your help.

Why am i being so nosey?  Obviously because i need to make sure that for HF to survive in the current UK economic climate I need to make sure that things are tailored not for the masses as some larger companies do but to make sure we keep as many people happy as possible.  2009 is going to be hard for everyone and i want to make sure i keep at least 2 steps ahead as i dont want to finish the year with my business gone and my kids homeless!

A few simple questions just for you to consider and also to add any more info that you think may help.

1:  painter/gamer/collector/sculptor ?

2:   under 21/21 - 45, 45+

3:  male/female

4:   Looking for cute chicks/ conversion bits/ soldiers / something nobody else makes

5:   UK/ Eu/ Non-Eu

6:   Generally buy from a retailer / prefer manufacturer

7: how long bought HF?..... less than 1 yr, 2yrs, 3 yrs, 4 yrs+

8:   Found through recommendation / search engine

9:  Anything we could do better/ anything you think we are doing drastically wrong/ what you think we do so well that makes us better than anyone else?

10: Any other comments?

Thanks lots

Sally :)

PS:  If you dont want to give info out on open forum just PM me or email me, thanks

thats cr**py.  cut their nuts off, hot needle down the third eye, chop off their hands.  alternatively you could try and process it through the courts and let the English Justice system take its course.  I personally prefer my version as the English system stinks.
Sally - I thought all the Libby minis Kev sculpted were fictional - now I see  they are all based on real events aren't they ?!  :jawdrop:

yup...........dont just be afraid, be very afraid!

Bloody Hell!...sounds like the Kiwi's & Aussie's have got the "CHAV" plague... :christalmighty:. Is no where safe...sad..sad times... :(

the zombie plague is coming, it is nearly the end of the world.............

actually society breaking down completely would be the end of the world as we know maybe we do need to be preparing for 20.12 2012

People who sit next to you on the bus & have a full blown conversation, with all the language & gory details to boot  :tantrum:.

no, people who sit next to you and fart...slow deadly ones and there are no other seats for you to sit on or move to and if you move the other passengers think it must have been you and then they glare at you.

the project isnt suspended. I dont update the gallery and havent done for the last couple of years, instead i rely on a couple of other people to do it for me when they get a chance.  Unfortunately as i have become more ill it is something that i just cant manage along with everything else.

I am sorry if anyone is upset with the situation, We had someone updating the gallery for us and as far as i was aware it was still being done.  A lot of the gallery pics are still on the server but havent been assigned into categories recently as all of them are linked into the shop codings and we are juggling the shop around.

I cant remember which topic i posted it on but i did say a while back that everything was up in the air with the gallery because of the codings changes.

Since the collpase after Salute i have had a number of people ask me if it is because my M.E is getting worse so i thought i would take a look at this posting again to see a comparison from 3 years ago.

My M.E. is more unstable than it used to be and in some senses it is actually a lot worse.  Most symptoms seem to be the same as three years ago except nothing has got better only worse.  From my diagnosis in January 97 through to July 2003 i was steadily improving however since i had Meg it stabilised and certain aspects are now worse and deteriorating slowly.

My body  'shuts down' more often....i go very cold and cant get warm.  Hot baths and lots of layers do help but usually the only way to warm up is bed with a hot water bottle.  If i get even more tired as i try to 'go through the pain/exhaustion' barrier i will collapse.  This is what happened at Salute and resulted in me laying on the floor shaking.  When i am very tired i get uncontrollable muscle spasms which if someone who isnt used to them seeing them may think i am having an epileptic fit.  It isnt very nice and i cant mentally or physically function when this happens....sometimes it is actually very scary.  They arent fits just muscle spasms.

I am sleeping a lot more than i used to.  I am also less rested when i wake up and it takes me longer to 'get moving'.  Sometimes if one of the children wake up in the night i am unable to get out of bed to go to them and need to wake Kev to go instead.....i always used to be the one up and Kev slept through!  It does help that Jen, Kieran and Meg are all at school full-time now but if i didnt have a part-time nanny coming in 4 days each week for a few hours so that i can rest then i would be in trouble physically!

Chiropractic and various alternative therapies alleviate some of the muscular symptoms but cant help the almost permanent headaches and nausea.

so there you go!    Any more questions that you want answered?

Alway remember the last time I was in Portsmouth, there was this pub that actually had been quite good previously. But the (then) new management had decided to refurbish it to look like the inside of a Navy Ship! It went down like a wet fart with the sailors because who the hell wants to spent all that time cooped up on a ship...then go ashore and drink in a pub that looked like a ship (well, not me or anyone I knew, anyway). It was at the top of the highstreet, under (or near) a flyover if I remember right.
yes, it was by where the M275 comes into Portsmouth, i cant remember what it was called though

Then there was Jo's...  :jawdrop: :alcohol: :punch:

ahhhhhhhh, Joannas, i remember it fondly.  I used to love Jos.  It was a 'spit and sawdust' type of club where you would only wear boots in as otherwise your feet would stick to the carpet!

When i first moved to Portsmouth i got a job in a club called 'Peggy Sues' , this was then refurbed into a 'fun pub' called 'Zoom' which i believe shut down a few years ago. All of that part of the seafront ..Jo's, Zoom, 5th Avenue are all shut now, the building has been sold to developers who are turning it back into seafront apartments.  I think the new development at Gunwaharf took a lot of their trade.  I worked on the door at 5th and over on South Parade Pier as well as at the Wedgewood rooms

For nearly thirty years before Portchester, I lived just down the road from Fratton (Canterbury Road, between Haslemere and St Augustine Roads). Are you from the Portsmouth area originally?

nope moved to Pompey from Kent in 1992.  My first accomodation in Pompey was actually in Liss Road (next to Haslemere), moved into a student house as it was cheap and gave me an opportunity to find my way around the area.

My post code is DE55 in Alfreton (Derbyshire)

Snap! You must be one of my closest FODers then  :D

nope....that would be us by about 2 miles!

PO16 : Portchester, Hampshire (between Fareham and Portsmouth, althought the Post Office doesn't recognise Portchester and says it's Fareham 8:::)

I used to live PO1 Fratton, about 5 minutes walk from Fratton Park ( Football ground ) and also Paulsgrove which is very close to Portchester.  I used to walk along the coast with the dogs starting at Portchester Castle and frowning at the louts at Port Solent.

now it never bothered me before i had kids but now.............

Fireworks, specifically fireworks outside my kids bedroom windows when they have just gone to bed, even more specifically fireworks that keep Luke awake for hours which means i have to stay up later to work to 'catch up' as i have spent a few extra hours settling him.  I wouldnt mind but we live in the middle of a residential area with loads of young children so youw ould think they would be a bit more responsible.........nooooooooooo

add to this mix a really stressed out pooch who needs to be drugged this time of the year or she will give herself a heart attack stressing out with the noise and you get a really f****d off Sally.

'White Metal' / What this board is about
« on: August 11, 2007, 09:40:00 PM »
Just what is says on the front page!!

My inbox is busy with submissions for 'White Metal' and the most common question i get asked is "do you think it has promise".  I thought rather then just me replying that i would start a board for members in general to answer posters queries.

As this project is still so new there arent really any groundrules established yet.  What i want to achieve here is for those who have emailed me with work to be able to post it here for feedback with regard to how it interests you guys.  It is NOT a place for you to slam unneccessarily another persons skills or talents but a place where we want you to be honest but fair.  Dont make me get all cross with you as i know you are generally a really fair bunch on here.

We are taking a risk on a lot of the 'WM' sculpts but so far the risks seems to have worked out and our budget is completely empty until later in the year...but however that does not mean we arent on the lookout continually for sculpts to purchase when cash allows.  Hopefully here we can get some activity going with regard to finding out the diversity of both skills available and customers 'wants' lists.

Does that make sense?...........expect me to edit this a few times as the baby keeps kicking everytime i try to get my words out!

Sally :)

PS, if you are new to HF then check out 'White Metal' here

Kev beat me to it!

thanks for such a nice posting and welcome!

Not really. No.

What IS going on at Ep's?

First there's all the miscasts, then a destroyed green?

actually all the greens from this months releases are damaged or destroyed.  we are also looking in a batch of 100 castings of about 80% miscasts

converting the green isnt going to be an option with this figure as she got completely destroyed in the moulding process.

as she stands ( sits) at the moment, this lovely lady is on one sprue with her body and head and there is another sprue containing her right hand which is attached to the chain/collar for the troll + the troll head + the book.

what i think would need to be done is that Kev would have to form the hand back onto a master and get it cast that way so that she is only a two parter.....otherwise i am going to have a lot of headless trolls!!

Will the riding Queen as she is now be available separately?

I was wondering the same thing - does Taxxis become available on her own after the pre-release period?

yes, i can put her up next week on her own but she has been made to go with the troll so would need adapting slightly to make her a 'stand/sit alone figure'.  should i put her up as she is or should i wait until Kev converts her slightly??

Costing is more tricky.  we are just waiting confirmation from the caster as to how many moulds etc.

Generally we cost using the following variables,

1:  3.00 for the figure
2:  50p per extra sprue for the figure
3:  Weight of metal of the monster
4:  How many production moulds
5:  Comparitive figures within the range
5:  What we can get away with .......**did i say that!!**

I think we are provisionally  looking at a RRP of 9.00 for the pair with the beast going up for 5.50 on his own.  Pre-order price will be 8.50

A couple of people came up with the same suggestions on different forums so i will sort out
who did it first later but it made us laugh so we thought it fitted well with the HF naming

"Riding her undead troll 'Deth',  Queen Taxxis (known for her merciless slaying of many a man
and the destroying of their homes and businesses) is bewitching and sly as she plots and plans
the destruction of all those around her.  She is stealthy and steadfast, fooling many a person
with her demanding and relentless pursuit of all their wealth and eventually only settling for
their souls."

Hasslefree / Gallery pics....criteria

1:  Send them to me at

2:  Jpeg format is preferable please.

3:  Thumbnail needs to be 100 x 100 pixels

4: I am quite happy to edit the main images if you arent too sure what to do but it may take me longer to get them up if you send me 20 different views to choose from!

5:  The main pic(s) need to be uncompressed and the maximum width of the pic needs to be between 275 and 350 pixels for a single pic and up to 400-425 pixels wide for a montage .  Length is up to you so you can stack pics on top of each other but preferably dont get the total image file size over 100kb.  this is flexible so if you arent sure just send it anyway and i will see what i can do.

6:  All pics in with me by the weekend will be up by the following weekend, sooner if

a) i am well
b) the kids are well
c) the childminder is well

Libertee's Miscellaneous Musings II / M.E. ....What it means
« on: May 09, 2005, 10:29:02 AM »
Alright, i get asked quite a lot what the 'M.E.' thing is that i suffer from and how it affects me so i thought that i would let u all know.

M.E or PVFS (post viral fatigue syndrome)or in USA it is known as CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) is a long term condition which invades every part of your body.

Basically i got three very severe infections in 1996 starting off with meningitis and ending up with glandular fever.  I never really quite got well from these and was diagnosed as M.E in January 1997.  My body still shows a reaction to 'Epstein barr virus.

Some days are good and i can function well, some days are bad and i cant function at all.

How it affects me:

1:  My whole body aches and if it is bad i walk like an arthritic 90 yr old.  even if the day starts well by 4pm my body starts to seize up.  This is really annoying as the kids are home from school and i find it hard to cope with them.  If i make the mistake of sitting on  the sofa for an hour to watch tv in the evening then i am there for the rest of the night as i cant physically move.  I get random pains in my bones, muscles and joints which the painkillers cant touch.

2:  Some days my hands or feet dont work.  This means i may drop my juice or fall over a lot as when i go to step forward as my foot just 'isnt there'..I broke a rib in the autumn when i fell and have fractured other bones over the years.  Imagine very bad pins and needles but without the pain.  On days my hands dont work then i cant work the keyboard or fill orders or do anything really without it taking me 5 times as long.  I also lose spatial awareness and walk into cupboards and doors.
3:  Exhaustion.  Not just being tired but complete exhaustion where you cant even think and all you can do is lay down and sleep.  I go to bed most afternoons whilst the kids are at school and this is why Meg goes to a childminder 4 days per week during school hours.  Before i met Kev i used to just not get out of bed for days but with small children you just dont have that luxury, you just have to get up and get on with it.

4:  Cant think.  Some days i cant cope with answering even basic questions like "tea or coffee ?".  My brain just switches off.  Sometimes i have to keep asking Kev what day it is.  I 'flit' from various tasks as i forget what it is that i was supposed to be doing.

5: Nausea.  Like being on a permanent hangover.  If i dont eat every hour or so i feel nauseous.

6: Depression.  This has arisen due to all of the above.  It can be so frustrating even after all these years to be unable to accomplish even a percentage of what i used to.  I get very  annoyed with the fact that i am so incapacitated and my body doesnt listen to the instructions that i give it..  I feel bad that i cant do many things with the kids when i am tired.  Sometimes even listening to them read isnt possible.  Somedays all i can do is sit and cry or stare out of a window.

7:  The medication that i am on has horrible side effects but it does mean that i can partly function.  The steroids have made me put on a lot of weight which doesnt help.  I am also on Anti-inflammatories, strong painkillers, Anti-emetics (cut down on the nausea) and various other bits and pieces.

8: You would think that with all of the above that i wouldnt have a problem sleeping..........well that is where you would be wrong as anyone with  small children will tell you!! into bed doesnt necessarily mean you will get to sleep!

If you ever meet me you would never guess all of the above as i an very practised at  'just getting on with it' and on a short-term basis I am able to override my bodys desire to just curl up and sleep.  Unfortunately this is like living on borrowed energy and my body lets me do it for a certain time ( like Salute) and then it claims it back with a vengeance and I 'shut down'......this is what happens for about 2 weeks following shows.

So if my pc is quiet for a while then you know what is going on.  Or if i take a while to answer an email.  Generally i am quiet about the time of the new releases as these take a lot of my energy.  Also if i am bad then Kev has to do more around the house and then falls behind with his work.  The knock-on effect to this is that sometimes the greens are late going to the caster and the releases are delayed a few days.

Most of the time we permanently play 'catch-up' which is why we are happy to let HF grow in its own pace rather than continually plug for new sales outlets.

So dont worry!...we have got this far and arent planning on disappearing, i just thought that if i let you know a bit about the condition that you would all stop worrying when i disappear for a few days at a time!

Sally :)
