Me neither, really. It was an experiment that I'm considering changing. Possibly in favour of chainmail.

I think with the chain mail already underneath I would prefer some kind of cloth tabard. It would also allow a bit of colour if his armour was painted completely in metallics. He's looking fantastic though and makes me less annoyed Guillermo came out just after I put in an order as I'll just wait.  :D

The latter, I think, is Victoria & David who were released, but no longer seem to be available.

They were a limited edition, I think.

Well I didn't think it would be all that fair. 15/20 minutes late isn't all that much but given I've had 3 months to do it and only really got stuck in this weekend it's my own fault. If there's a comp next year I'll definately not make the same mistake, might even get multiple entries done.

Seeing it finished though did make me quite happy as early on I was just frustrated by not getting things looking like I wanted. There's still things that are different from what I had planned, she was meant to be an assasin type with a spider theme going on including helmet with multiple eyes.

Well finished at least but faffing about with the camera and paint shop took me till 00:15am... If nothing else I hate green stuff a little less and will put in some practice before the next one which I will probably not be working on up till 11:50pm on the deadline day.  :(

Well guess you got lucky this time Inso...  :lol:

Edit: Might as well post a pic here, practicing camera skills for the next one seems a good idea and a recurring theme.  :silly

Well finished her but the putting the pics together took me 15 minutes over deadline. Well next year I guess.  :x

The ears almost made re-title her as "human female with stolen Sleiti tech" and the weapon was a serious hachet job done at the last minute, I really had no plan for it as I could never decide what it should look like. Once again apologies for the terrible photos.

Well I'm cutting it exceptionally fine but I thought I should get cracking with my entry for the comp. I found that green stuff is fairly irritating to work with and ended up shelfing my effort for a while, leaving her looking like...



...for quite some time. Essentially just the texture that's beneath her armour which I wanted to look less neat than Ieuan's t give it a more organic look... also I just went at it with a knife to make the texture.  :P

The photos are terrible unfortunately so it's kind of hard to see what's going on with all that green stuff. As of yesterday I made some more progress and she now looks like:



I still have to do the armour on her legs, chest, back and shoulders as well as her weapon which I only have a rough idea of what I'm going to do. I might do a helmet as well, I had planned to but I'm not sure I can pull off my sketches.

I was wondering if people dont comment on this thread because of the whole "if you can't say something nice" rule? I'd like to hear all of your internal monalogs, even if I ignore them its usefull input. I'm not the kind of person that gets offended by suggestions.

I think there aren't many comments as the forum isn't particularly lively these days and folk who are interested in the comp are probably crunching to get their own sculpt finished. 

As you've already identified yourself the boots seem somewhat softer than the rest. Personally I think you should leave the jacket blank for the reasons you've mentioned. It's easier for a painter to add something than to remove a sculpted on detail.

Not sure what's going on with the pose but I guess it will be clearer with the weapons on.

Maybe the suit is a heavier version that has added plates for protection... a Rhinocerous version of the standard suit.

Heh funnily enough it's the exact opposite, I was going for an assassin type, I just felt I would get better results with segmented armouring as opposed to trying to do smooth muscle contours given I've never really sculpted.

The existing sculpt looks to have an octopus-style creature on the arm... I chose bugs because they fitted what I wanted to achieve. I just thought that the Sleiti would use whatever was adaptable and work from that.

Well I haven't settled on anything yet, I was trying to design some kind of wrist mounted needle bug...  :scratchhead:

Just be careful not to make it too much like a Guyver... IP issues may arise.

It won't be anything like the Guyver really, it was more just to convey the idea of segmented bio armour. Also if I copied the Guyver head to toe it would probably still look nothing like it given my first and only attempt at sculpting.  :oops:

I've decided to go ahead and try and make a Sleiti for the sculpting comp and I've finally started my entry (well sketches and posed the armature) but I've realised I don't really know much about the Sleiti beyond the fact they're space elves who use bio-organic gear. I've tried doing a search and most of the really old posts seem to be more about Sleiti culture, personality etc than how they look or the types of weaponry.

From the one available mini and Inso's sculpt and descriptions they use genetically engineered bugs as weaponry? Also as far as the armour goes it seems to be mostly a single flexible layer with open patches at joints. My current sketches are more segmented as I'm taking influences from the Guyver in it's design so I don't know if it would be entirely accurate to the vision of the race.  :scratchhead:

I guess I'm looking for a bit more info before I proceed really.

I had/have a couple of ideas, one of which was a Sleiti until I saw Inso's superb wip but I might give it a try anyway.

I know you're probably sick to look at them Andy given the hassle you've went through to get them finished and out there but, man, you should rightfully be proud of that model. The sheer scale of it coupled with the detail and character of the piece is amazing. It isn't just the dragon either, even the base with the tree roots winding through the boulders is just fantastic and really adds to the whole thing.  :notworthy:

Props to Ian as well for the amazing work on the casting. I've no idea how he even got that tail in the piece it's in and judging by the extra metal tail end included you guys didn't expect it to work either.  :lol:

I do have a criticism though... hiding mint green dragon pieces in mint green packing peanuts!

Having all my details stolen from the PlayStation network including *possibly* my debit card details and purchase history etc.  :swear:

Sony took over a week to decide to divulge this info to it's users... Oh wait I mean divulge this info if you happen to be following the PlayStation Blog or reading 3rd party gaming sites, still haven't had any official emails or anything.  :applause:  :roll:

Is there a specific type of dettol people are using? I gave it a go with what I thought was the right stuff, and didn't get as good results as everyone else was claiming.

Only the pine stuff I think. I got non-pine dettol and it shifted almost bugger all.

So does it have the same areas to visit as #2 such as New Reno and so on?

Nah, the game is set in the Mojave desert and is too far East to feature locations from the first game. They are talked about by some of the NPCs though and you can find out what's going on in those places now and who's in power etc.

Hmmmm done a little digging and it seems that originally New Vegas was intended to be downloadable content but due to the amount of ideas and concepts they had for it they decided to make it into a fully fledged game in its own right.

This is due to the fact that they already have fallout 4 in the pipeline which is to be an online world game a bit like WOW.

Fallout Online isn't Fallout 4 and it isn't developed by Bethesda but by Interplay the original owners of the Fallout franchise. There was, in fact, a bit of a legal wrangle as Bethesda claimed Interplay no longer had the right to the licence as the orginal agreement stated Interplay had to have the game out by a ceratin time. I believe the companies settled and Fallout Online is now in beta. Scratch that I don't think the game is in beta just yet.

Sweet. There were silly traits in Fallout 2 that you could take which made the game more fun on say the second playing if you had gone all hardcore for the first.

For example, bloody mess, which ment when you killed people they died in the most horrific way possible to that weapon. Oh and if you attacked dog meat a certain road warrior would appear and defend him . . . it was so much more of an 18 certificate than fallout 3.

I like fallout 3 though, and I like the way that each game is following a different story for a different area. Fallout 3 was a follow on from 2 as it expanded on the story of the brotherhood that were sent on a special mission which was noted in some subplot text in 2.

Well the bloody mess perk was in Fallout 3 as well and is back again. New Vegas also let's you choose between 0 and 2 traits at character creation somewhat like the original fallouts did. The thing about traits is that they always have positives and negatives such as "small frame" which gives you +1 agility but means you're frail and your limbs are easily crippled. So taking the Wierd Wasteland trait doesn't really disadvantage you the same if it had been a perk.

New Vegas is actually more of a direct successor to Fallout 2 than 3 is with the setting returning to the West Coast. Also one of the major factions (as displayed in trailers and box art) is the New California Republic (NCR) as well having several characters and factions from Fallout 2 appearing in the game. There's also little things that make it seem more like classic fallout such as returning enemies like Geckos and the Super Mutants looking like they did in the earlier games rather than the Fallout 3 versions.
