Goodness, I hadn't realised that it was becoming a ghost town. I feel bad for not checking in more often.

Love! One of my fave dragon sculpts around! I have an original Grenadier one that I bought from Ainsty Andy's stand this year, but it's in a tupperware box on my TV stand because I cannot get the wings to stay on.  :happytears:

If you can pin them with a nice thick bit of brass rod, great but there are nice tabs to use. If you use a glue like Araldite, it will provide a good joint but you have to make sure you support everything while it sets... and glue one wing and let it dry before gluing the second one.
I used araldite, but it seems to take about four days to dry because I bought "adjustable" araldite.
I need to clear it out before I go again.

There's two of us here from Derbyshire who could probably help out if that suits?
Yep, I'm up for assisting if it's practical for you guys.  :yup:

It's lucky I'm not dealing with this. I wouldn't have asked for opinions...
Maybe you wouldn't, but Arty did. So please Inso, try not to get wound up by people giving them.  :terrified: At the end of that day it is what we all love about this forum, that people can freely express how they feel.

My opinion? I am sure a lot of people would not have picked up tools if they hadn't been spurred by the idea of getting a figure cast, myself included. But I am actually really happy either way because it's something I had not done before. I was encouraged to do something new by this competition and I had fun doing it. In the end we can always paint our greens when they return.

I'm so sorry to hear about Pog, Inso. Gangrel told me yesterday about your worries. :(
If it's not too weird a thing to say, I am glad you at least found out what happened.

I hope your new little friend helps lessen the sads.. Little girl cats are very quick and witted have a different personality. ;)

I decided early on to not let my cats out, because of who they are (nervous, stupid and tiny, respectively). But I can't see it working for all cats.

My only disappointment was that the 3d was so subtle - being used to add depth and richness rather than float abotu the place for the most part - that I slightly feel it wasn't worth watchign in 3d, certainly you aren't missing a great deal if you see it in 2d.

I'd love to watch it on the Imax in Nottingham but it would be a small fortune in petrol and parking to add on top of the cinema price. Had to save the money up to watch it down the road as is!
Some parts weren't actually 3D at all.. I take my glasses off now and then because I have a massive squint.
The scene in Rivendell where Gandalf chats with his mates was mostly 2d.

Thanks for getting on the missing ones so fast Sally, mine are there now :D

Do you suppose these will be in store by christmas, perchance? It would be the perfect excuse to spend lots of money   :lalala:

nope, not a hope.  I am sending out the newsletter today with the details of where to send all of the entries and asking people to check the pics to make sure their entry is there so we can get them divided into categories and judging started.

there is another HF release in about a week/10 days .. i am sure i can persuade you to part with some cash then!...lol!

So you haven't ruled out any of the entrys as uncastable? Just want to make sure before I send in all my entrys only to have my fave lost in the either X3 (they are like first born!)
I wouldn't assume anything until Kev sees them in the flesh so to speak. I have my doubts about several entries being single-piece. All it takes is an awkward crevice...

If you're worried about them going missing, just spring for the extra 90p to send them recorded in the post. ;)
I was more worried of a mini being sent off and not cast and thus never seeing it again ; ;
I don't think there is ANY chance of that. HF might be busy, but they're lovely people who can't do enough to help customers and fans.

Absolutely stunning.  You've done real justice to the figure.

In the back of my mind I'm thinking "...was the satchel green?" but it looks so good with the colour-scheme that I  truthfully think it looks better than whatever I remember it being.

Luckily I was able to give David access to a few production stills
See, that looked brown to me (it would) but it honestly wasn't a dig to begin with. I meant that the colour he picked does that clever thing of bringing out out the other green parts too.

Might help save you some time; Throwing up a webpage to spit out all the images in a folder would only take a few lines of code, then you could direct people to that page rather than trying to individually list 80+ pictures on the forum. It would also mean you didn't need to resize them.

Something to consider! I could send you the page you'd need, if you like :P

that sounds interesting.  the main issue that i have is they vary in width from between 233 pixels to 1700 pixels so i was facing the job of trying to resize them to 600 pixels wide before uploading them to our spare server and then getting the links on here.  Any advice for saving me a job is helpful and very very much appreciated!
I could do that for you and put them in a .zip if you like. Got a photography program that would do it in a few seconds without wrecking the images. :)

unpaid labour :D the egyptians got something right!
I've had enough sweeties off HF in the past to fuel hours of work.  :yup: Especially as I get to eat Gangrel's too.

That is very nicely done, and I'd love to see some more photos of the smoke. :jawdrop:

That said, I'd be even more impressed if this wasn't a straight-up copied and pasted post from at least two other sites, and your first post had been to say "Hi"...
I hope we see more of you, especially if the painting is all this good.

I'm happy to view on Facebook as long as voting is as far away from that site as humanly possible.  I know I'm not in the running, but I want to see some of those cracking figures get a fair shot.

Sometimes forum software can be fooled by tabbed browsers, and log them as separate people.
It fades after the time limit (usually 5-15 minutes) but it's fun to watch when it happens.

Quite how many entries were there? I saw quite a few threads from people I recognise.. And many more from people who signed up just for the contest. I'm going to assume there were a lot of entries that weren't posted, too.  :paranoid2:

It's embarrassing that I haven't got any farther with this, but the thing kicks up so much muck when I'm cleaning the parts!

Thanks Dragon, I have gel superglue and epoxy now. Going to have another crack at cleaning tomorrow.

I haven't built the first airfix kit I bought as a kid, or I'd be tempted.

Thanks Brandlin, I was wondering especially about the size of rod to use!
It will need a lot of work to get the joints seamless. The torso joint has a patterned joint to "help" fit it together. It's actually causing a 5-6mm gap between pieces and it's taken me two days to sand it down.
A little work each day, I think. Getting bored or frustrated will kill this for me.

I'm pondering where to put it long term, stuffing it in a cabinet seems wrong, but likewise those wings are... Delicate.
