Ditto with Luke, after my much older lad was sick earlier this year, I can imagine the stress little Luke has put you and Kev under.

Remember to look after yourselves as well!

Always stressful when the liitle'uns are unwell (long, long time since my daughters were that age but we now have a five-year-old grandaughter to worry over) so I hope he recovers quickly and fully.

Sorry to hear that Sally.

I hope that little Luke is better soon. It's horrible when the kids are really ill. You're tired as it is, but then add the worry.

Thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery.

Thanks guys,

he is much better today, his temperature is under control and he slept longer than 20 minutes between panic attacks last night ( which meant i got about 3 hours sleep as well which was fab!).  it seems to have turned into a chesty-type cough now and a really snotty nose.  the 'barking' noise seems to have almost gone which means the virus is hopefully under control

: Re: Luke ill

Kids get unsuspectingly ill and seem like they'll need to be taken to hospital (sometimes they have to).
Then, they unsuspectingly get well, and in a couple days are laughing, playing, and generally making a mess, as if nothing had happened.
Doctors won't get a chance to even understand what has been going on.

Or so I've seen happen many times to other families (I have no kids). Of course, parents can't help but get scared to death.
I suppose that's the cycle of life. Or something.

And glad the little guy is better.

Phew! Good to hear the little chap is on the mend!

i spoke too soon   :(

the croup is gone to be replaced by a chest infection.  lovely yellow anti-biotics will hopefully sort that out.  first time in his life for anti-biotics so they should work quickly.  i am so knackered i sat with him on the sofa today snuggled up and it was me who fell asleep whilst he watched Fireman Sam, he took the mug of tea out of my hand and put it on the floor so i didnt spill it!

Oh, bless. Fingers crossed for him to get well soon.

I will beseech Sooty to watch over him. I did consider my moral compass - "What would Sooty do?" - but all it came up with was hitting someone with a hammer or squirting them with a water pistol. They usually help out, but I'm not optimistic about their medical efficacy in this particular situation.

I do take Sooty with me everywhere I go; he was my favourite toy when I was a nipper and I keep him as a lucky mascot. I'm so deadpan when I joke about worshipping him, though, that one of my friends genuinely believed that I did for a couple of years until it finally dawned on him that I was taking the mickey. His wife laughed at him for ages about that.

Or, er, I mean: "What's that, Sooty? I should squirt him with a water pistol for mocking my deeply-held religious convictions? Fuliginosus vult!"

I like penguins. I don't worship them, though. That would be a bit weird. Not like worshipping Sooty, which is a completely normal and sensible thing to do. People having been doing it for ages and ages and it's definitely not a silly idea I made up in the mid-1990s for a laugh when I'd been down the pub.

That's fair enough. I'd hate to think people might make up similar stupid stories about the Cult of the Great and Powerful Penguin. Like, for instance, it being formed 20 years ago by a bunch of goths on finding a strange glass penguin in a house they were renting for Whitby Goth Weekend.

He loves brussel sprouts, prefers them cooked but will happily munch them raw.

He also loves raw peppers, raw mushrooms, fresh raw spinach, raw cabbage, raw beansprouts, beetroot and all salad leaves except iceberg lettuce.

the first thing on his plate to go is always the vegetables...green first, then yellow then orange!

he just loves veg/fruit/salad/nuts .. most of the things a child of his age likes he isnt fussed about.  Luke likes to recognise what is on his plate so doesnt often eat things like mince/stew/casseroles etc, he prefers slices of meat and salad!

Would you hire him out for lectures?  Whenever I try cooking anything old or new for my sisters (a bunch of 20-30-somethings), most of the veg gets scraped into the bin, just on the principle that it's veg.

Luke likes to recognise what is on his plate so doesnt often eat things like mince/stew/casseroles etc

My theory when it comes to eating veggies: Eat them first whilst you are most hungry, thus making them 'taste' better.  Then eat the good stuff.

To be honest, I think that Soo usually ends up bossing him around.

I have considered increasing the mighty army that is the Cult of Sooty. One of my friends asked if she could join, but I'm not sure that the organisation is ready for the vast expansion that adding another member would involve. Suppose she wants to be the pope or something?
