Well I was surprised that you didn't enter TBH, but seeing as you pretty much paint continuously throughout the year, maybe the competition time represents a 'rest' for you Whereas at the moment, this is the only painting I have done all year....

I like to get minis done in a couple of sittings so TBH this sort of contest isn't for me (unless I'd remembered the sinlge mini which I could've entered 5 times over d'oh!). I had fun doing last years and I had a lot of fun but I like to keep churning out single minis and keep trying to improve/try new stuff.

I really liked T&A's dioramas because of how contained and tight they were. Some of those dioramas are huuuuuuge, which ain't a bad thing, but it is IMO when you start getting alot of negative space.
But I voted for Dolmots entry, thats just inspired!
Peace and love...

Somehow missed this completely, so didn't vote. Sorry! Particularly impressed with toosh's entry this year - the painting is good, but the main thing in my opinion is the unusual idea and the excellent composition. Once again, I wish I had managed to enter. One of these years...

The level of work on all the entries is just mind blowing ....it was hard for me to make a choice , so many different styles, stories, humour & dramatically effective dioramas . I voted for Toosh in the end because her diorama incoperated everything a diorama should have IMO, great paint work, well thought out & compact, bags of detail, humour & drama . This was not a easy decision to make, had Dos's & singles been on the list, I think I would of through the pressure. On the note of DoS's, Lost Boy, your scene (vignette) really provoked a reaction, in fact, I swore & I never swear (well now & then), then let out a squeak (girly style). Your DoS involves the viewer from the start, truth is it leaps out at you. Everything is there, it is like watching a action movie, on the edge of your seat, WHAM!!. Freeze frame! that is the moment you have caught "move your ar*e woman". I wish I had time to comment on all the entries, sadly I have not, so I leave this . I'm in next year

I thought your "don't get in a huff" comment was aimed at me not getting upset because you didn't vote for me, which in that context I did get upset about it, especially as it's most definitely not something to get upset about (Sheesh, that sounds like dialogue from The Princes Bride.....!). It wasn't, and I'm sorry if I upset you...again. I always seem to be putting my foot in it when we talk . Hopefully you won't be logging all the occasions up, and blindside me if we ever meet On the note of DoS's, Lost Boy, your scene (vignette) really provoked a reaction, in fact, I swore & I never swear (well now & then), then let out a squeak (girly style). Your DoS involves the viewer from the start, truth is it leaps out at you. Everything is there, it is like watching a action movie, on the edge of your seat, WHAM!!. This discussion has actually raised an interesting question. The FOD is a massive time commitment and gets a limited number of entries because of that. A while ago there was a topic about why so few painted FOD minis are posted here. Usually the response was "I'm busy with this" or "I have all these projects going and don't seem to finish anything" ...that type of thing. I'm wondering if it's worth running a comp (in addition to the annual FOD), say every 2-3 months where you can enter anything from the FOD companies that you like, a single mini, a whole unit or a duel, mini-diorama, whatever. The idea is that everyone gets, say 3 votes and FOD members can choose their favourite. No prizes except glory of course ...and maybe some kind of icon under your avatar? The Steve Dean forum painting comps run like this but are slightly more labour intensive because they run as a series of matches between randomly selected entries until you have an eventual winner. It's a good set-up but a large commitment from whoever runs it. I like deadlines, they make me get things done. I reckon' I'd paint more of my FOD stuff if I had something like this to aim at. It's also good advertising for the FOD companies to see more of their minis painted on the net. Edit: ....ah, I see this has been discussed elsewhere with a slightly different focus.

I've just got a headache already thinking about next year cause how the hell am I going to come up with something crazier than a robot monkey suit? The DoD is just a chance to express my imagination in miniature painting without having to muck about worrying about rules for gaming and how I will proxy this into whatever game is being played. It's my one chance a year to piss about with totally random ideas and put something together that is *me* as the artist. Although I'd go on a diatribe of self loathing and blah blah as I look at the excellent work and wondering if my painting will ever attain that level through practice, etc.
I have no ideas for next year but I'm thankful I can get another year of brush practice in before whatever nutty idea percolates out of that pudding I call a brain.

Jeebs, man, you have to stay away from electrical stuff. First the camera, now the laptop... The cat clips are from an e-mail I got sent about 2 years ago. There was six of them. I kept them, and put a new one up on here every now and then. I don't know where they originally come from, though. I've got three left before I seriously have to start looking... Edit: I've just checked out Youtube and there's loads on there. Just put a search in for "Dancing Cat".
