"Where the hell.....?"

"That will teach them  to stick sharp objects in me Bob ! ...Bob ?"

"Don't move Smithers....."

"Grrrrr...."

"It's behind me, isn't it ?"

And some assorted close up pics......

Quite pleased with it really - at least I got it finished ! Very Happy

Wow, what a great scene and actually scarily close to one of the scenes I had rumbling around in my head for this years DOD!  Now that would have been interesting if we'd both done the same scene!

But back to this.....I like the interaction between the characters and the lab is really very detailed. Obviously a result of lots of hard work Smile  Knowing the feedback I got for my DOD last year, the amount of space might be an issue for some. I like the bio-tanks with the gribbly creatures inside - are these from Armorcast by chance?  I've always liked their Sci-Fi range.

Grats on a well thought out scene!  Round of Applause

Every thing is scratch built in the lab from recycled material. The main body of the base is from a knackered fax machine along with the bits of wiring and circuit boards. The 2 big bio tanks are made from some perspex tubing which formed the legs of a screenwash display stand  and the smaller ones are some plastic tubing I found in the skip at work ! (they are starting to keep interesting bits for me these days rather than throwing stuff  out !). I then painted them with Tamiya clear green and printed the black & yellow warning bits off on the computer cut them out stuck them on and hey presto ! The bottoms are just lipped bases painted dwarf bronze and the 'lids' came out of my bits box along with most of the other bits and pieces. The biohazzard stickers came from Hasslefree a while ago - I was quite pleased with how they turned out !
I agree about the size of the base but I'm one of these people who gets a rough idea and just goes for it with not a lot of planning ! Angel

That's really good, like it's a scene straight out of a comical B movie, i can imagine the guy with the gun saying in a snazzy English accent "don't move smithers" and the young American technician replying "it's behind me isn't it" whilst thinking ..oh balls ..then the English guy goes on a long ranting speech...trust me smithers, don't move and do as i say, you have to trust me on this, remember trust smithers, remember the first time we met, remember how i couldn't trust you and you gained my trust by trusting me to trust you, well now you have do the same for me and trust me to trust you, then you can trust me.... it's all about trust now smithers, trust is the key, just don't move Laughing

theres a big sci fi feel to this years entries  Yes!

love it. That is a cool scene. The lab is fantastic, and It's hard to beleive it's scratch built. I think I might have to copy the green tubing for some scifi scenary of my own.

Another amazing entry!

The detail is great and I love that you scratch built the lot!
I love the space in the piece. It feels as if the technician's going to be jumped any minute and there's nothing anyone can do about it.

Wow a really nice (and big) scene - I still can't get over how much detail is in there, how long did it actually take to put it all together? Thanks for explaining how you did the bio tanks/statis tubes that had me wondering for a bit  Smile

Top work. Tells the story well and the poor guys saying "its behind me" sums up the face!

I really like the DODs this year. Very high standard.

I like the lab a lot, its very well done. The tubes look full of liquid, particularly the one with the alien in it. I think its a really well conceived idea. Great scratchbuilding  Round of Applause

Ok first off Dragon....here's a  tsk,tsk,tsk... from me regarding your DOD.. You made me angry by saying that is wasn't as good as the others - well matey, it most certainly IS!  As I said above, you have put lots of work into your scene and I think it's awesome!  So consider yourself suitably told off!!  Angry Wife

Re bio-tanks - yup I did mean the whole unit. I hadn't twigged that the contents were separate and from Hasslefree!  Just goes to show, how much more work went into the piece than I originally thought....

It's cool Round of Applause

The worst thing about making the Bio- tanks was cutting the tube straight ! Crazy I resorted to a thick rubber band and a permanent black marker pen to get the level which was fine on the thicker perspex tubing but was a nightmare on the thinner flexible stuff ! Tantrum Oh and by the way the hazzard markings were : //////////// on Word highlighted yellow and printed out on some large address labels - I just adjusted the font size to get the different sizes of strip and then with the aid of a marker pen filled in the black. Thumb Up
@ Toosh from you that is praise indeed ! Embarassed I bow before you O Master!

Round of Applause Excellent Round of Applause
Very B-Movies-ish, with brilliant scenery and a good selection of well painted figures all rolled into one big ball of splendidnous. As with everyone else, I think the specimens in the tanks are very clever, but it's the blood splatter that always draws my eyes...and a few seconds after this frozen moment I bet there's a lot more!!!

Classic B-movie set up, although better executed than most B-movies can manage to be certain. Made me think of Attack of the Killer Shrews for some reason but the lab in that was like a back room with more booze than scientific equipment.

All around excellent scratchbuilding. Going over these one after the other just shows how much outstanding work went on this year for the competition.

This is ace though. Excellent diorama.
