My girlfriend encourages me to paint as much as I can so when she asked if she could give this painting lark a go I wasn't about to stifle such enthusiasm. So after many hours of lessons on which end of the brush to hold I give you Suzi's very first 3 miniatures.

That is very cool work for a fisrt go. Wow, if I look back at my first minis they look like I daubed the paint on with a roller.

This diorama is well proportioned, with a very strong narative. The minis have been well picked and well positioned. The muscles on the male figure are well defined and well shaded too. I love the grave stone.

Keep up the good work.

chuffin nora, those are her first!

christ, i was painting half the face by mistake when i was trying to paint an eyeball when i first started (see the kids in gw stores with more paint on one model than you can fit in a pot, well that was me!)

realy sweet work, she will be a right crackin' painter if she keeps up the practice.

Thats what worries me, I'm really proud of her but if she keeps this up we'll have another Ana on our hands.  Laughing

Round of Applause Tell Suzi she did really well, Reaperman Round of Applause

The painting is brilliant for someone who's not done much painting, and the whole thing's been well thought out, keeping it all nice and tight the way Andy and the rest of the judges like it.

My favourite bit? Probably stupid, but I like the way she's forced a second level on the base with the grass overflowing. It's one of those little things that adds a bit of "life" to a base.

Well done, Suzi, if you read this  Thumb Up

For a first time painter of models ever this is a really nice piece. When I first started, just painting one figure was a challenge enough, so to accomplish a scene like this with such detail is truely something to be proud of Smile  Grats to being so brave and here's to seeing more of your work Round of Applause

A message from Suzi (beaming with pride while she says it) "Thank you very much for the lovely comments, Whens the next competition I can enter?" happy joy dance

Some thing tells me she's bowled over with all the positive comments. She still recons its average. Someone needs to help me explain to her why its a great first try.   Thumb Up

It's an awesome first go. The positioning and idea are half the battle in a good diorama and this works so well. Everything else is technical details which she obviously got the talent to master as time passes. Fab.

I am pretty surprised that these are Suzi's first three minis!! Has she painted other things in the past or is she just artistic by nature?

Great stand-off and the crow really makes the scene Very Happy (I am sure there is some technical jargon to do with creating a triangle to focus the eye or something)

Damned outstanding for a first piece of work. Has to be an artistic nature with her cause I surely didn't start with that kind of talent in getting figures looking that good.

Excellent job.

Thank you for all the encouraging comments. Mainly the results are down to a very very patient teacher Craig I bow before you O Master! Who listened to what I wanted to do & guided me through. Showing me techniques & explaining why or how things worked & of course what wouldn't. So a very special Thank you to Craig as it's all down to him I bow before you O Master!
