um, need help with colours. WIP pictures included
« on: July 27, 2008, 12:03:32 PM »
well, as it says on the tin dudes.

i enjoy painting, and i do like to experiment with colours, but i'm currently sculpting a 6cm tall angel... [no pics yet, soz lads. its for someone special].
i have a rough concept drawing [doodle] for you to look at.

i am after a kind of glowy look. i dont want yellows, they look dirty on white, and i dont want it looking to blue...

any help will be much appreciated, and, u can see the model when i've sculpted it :)
anywa, drawing:

cheers:)

oh... and before i forget, i tried this on TO... they were a-holes about it... and... i know the hands aren't correct, even remotely. it will be worked up into a larger drawing, then shrunk down and hopefully will be a tattoo:)

On the sculpt, you've killed the two colour choices I would have gone for (White shaded with blue or yellow/brown).

Is the angel a bit 'Gothic'?  With the lines down from her eyes it looks like she may be.  If that is the case; blue/purple/black may work well...you could even work in a few dark greens.  Obviously the skin would be pallid and white.

So...Raven black/blue wings, a deep purple gown with deep green details.  White pallid flesh with  any colour hair you like (black, white, red or even green).  If you could add make up to the face, all the better.

If it isn't gothic...paint it like every other angel ;).

how about having a gold look to her I'd start of with a nice mid gold on the top of the wings and then end up with a white gold at the bottom of the wings.

for her dress I'd say go nice light colour to show of the gold on the wings or I'd do a mix again starting of dark at the top and light at the bottom of the dress.

that is all I have hope it helps you out.

What sort of glow? What colours are already decided on? Any sort of glow is going to be very difficult to represent if your base colour is white for clothes and wings. If you are using white I'd probably paint the hair black, the skin a very pale blue and then use the skin as a pale blue OSL. Other colours include pale green skin, it's one I've seen of Outsiders in D&D books but it's really difficult to get right without looking like sickly or undead. A very pale purple might work too.

i think i would use a combination of silvers, whites, and reds, it's hard to get the image across from my head

use the white and silver on the wings to bring out a glittery shining effect maybe a little baby pink too,
dark red outfit, with white lace black backlined
pale skin like a vampire but with pink blushing cheeks, add pink blushing tones to all pale flesh areas
dusty black hair

rethink.... maybe use baby pink for the dress, black hair, silver and white wings and a bronze flesh

hmm... purple.

well, the gothy look was slightly unintentional, i was trying to make it look as though she was crying.

i am still kind of unsure as to the colours to be honest. i like the gothy idea, but at the same time, a pure, light look would go nicely too...  and i know which would be easier to get right...

hmm, silvery white wings... that sounds quite good. and the golden shimmer...

well. cheers guys, already this is more helpful than the one i put on Tau Online...

What kind of angel is this supposed to be (I mean is it more some sort of guardian angel, angel of justice/...)? And as it is for someone special, what colours does this someone like, maybe these preferences could help to decide on a colourscheme as well.

Personally I think it might be interesting looking if the angel would cry blood (as if it was one of those saint x statue thingies they got in catholic churches), in that case* probably gold highlighted with silver for the wings would be appropriate.

Glad you like the idea (btw there's a letter missing in your original post, corrected that in the quote)

Putting up pictures: I'd say do it, that way you get feedback at a relatively early stage

You can try some small ball bearings for the eyes. Andy uses them if I am correct.
