If I can offer one thing, try and remember this - Cancer's only a word, it's not a sentence.
Fu***ng true. And excuse me for the bad word. My mother lives with a brain cancer. Discovered 5 years ago because her sight, in a single moment, became reversed (as in a glass). Reason: pressure of the cancer against optical nerves.
Thanks to a very high level surgery technique, named "cyberknife", today she's ok, but she'll live to the end with this dark guest inside (it cannot be totally eliminated).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberknife
The first UK CyberKnife was opened at The Harley Street Clinic in February 2009.

We have in Italy 3 ot them, and in Milan (30 km from my house, thanks God) from the year 2007.

So Sagunt kick the fat ass of the enemy!!!!

Cheers, all.  I don't know when I'll get to spend time with my regular doc to go over things c arefully but for now at least I'm holding on to the fact that the initial assessment says no pancreatic cancer.  My sense is that nearly anything else will be easier to deal with.  Until I know what that may be, I'm simply giddy that it's not PC.  :lalala:

Now back to our regularly scheduled complaints though today I have none.  I must say though, that I was put to wondering what I would do with my time if I had only a year or two to live.  I do know that it would not be in the classroom as I've been doing.  (...but perhaps that's a different thread.)

Great news Sagunt. im sad to say my grandmother passed away with Bowel cancer that spread all over including the pancreas last year. so im happy as hell someone else has dodged the bullet. Cancer i dont need to tell you is nasty, and more than half of my relitives have died from it, or had it. Though a ray of hope is that a good few have beaten it.
Eitehr way im happy for you. cheers mate.

All of you know how important the fight against cancer is to me and mine.  Glad to hear it isn't the big "C" word; but stay strong all the same and fight whatever it is you're dealing with.

Talking of cancer scares, does anyone have any information about Chris Passeno?

I've been thinking about him for a couple of months now and he's not been online since March of this year so I assume he lost his battle with his tumour a while ago.

Wow some serious stuff here.  Glad to hear that the news was good Sagunt - the only time a 'negative' is a positive :D.  There must have been much relief all round and I hope that whatever ails you can be fixed quickly :)

@Kev - I'm sorry to say I don't think I know who that is - what is his Forum name?  I wasn't aware that someone else here was also unwell, but my thoughts go out to him and his family.

"Chris Passeno" is his usename on the FoD. He posted in this thread (around page 20 or so, IIRC) about his terminal tumour at the start of the year.

I'll paraphrase my Frothers post.

A naughty man in a motor car reversed into my motor car as I was buying some happy juice and then the naughty little fella buggered off at a rate of knots leaving my car a bit crinkled up at the back.

What a naughty man he is.

EDIT: Reading the recent posts puts everything into perspective, it's only a car.

I am generally an apologist for Games workshop, but every time i go into my local store they have run out of standard brushes. I asked the duffus who manages the place what this is all about and he said "well. you know the standard ones are the most popular ones, so they sell out." I mean- excuse me, but if your the shop manager isn't it your job to make sure that ' the most popular' things dont run out by, maybe, ordering more of the? :tantrum:
It didn't help when I had to point out to him that their were at least a dozen empty racks on the paint diplay. Surly, if you work in games workshop, you would think that it would be a good idea not to run out of paints and paint brushes. He offered t have one sent to my house by mail order- Plonker!

this isn't restricted to GW.

even bigger supermarkets have some people running them that either dont understand the basics of supply and demand or are not allowed to decide what happens in their store.  In fact a lot of supermarket managers are rewarded for not "over stocking" ie having more on their shelves than they can sell.

I am a great believer in customer power. Its amazing what you can achieve by talking to the right people, and being clear respectful and vocal. Especially if you are clear respectful and vocal in your feedback in front of a shop full of other customers.

What follows is my conversation yesterday with a store manager of a big out of town supermarket (beginning with S and ending in ainsbury). I'd already spoken to an assistant who basically agreed with my position and suggested i might like to speak to THE BOSS as he never listened to them. It went almost exactly like this...

You dont seem to sell X any more?
Well X wasn't very popular so we stopped stocking it.
What do you mean X wasn't popular? i used to look for it every time i came in and you'd always run out.
Well we only ever sold about 10 of them a week.
and how many did you put on the shelves?
about 10
so you always sold out?
yes
so do you think you could have sold more if you'd had them?
no
why not?
we only allocated enough space on the shelves for 10.
i see and you dont think there is anything remotely suspect about your decision not to stock X any more
no
why?
because since we discontinued it we've had no sales at all so demand has really fallen off.
err... ok... I dont think you can help me. can i speak to the brains of this outfit please?

(ok, so i wasn't proud of having to resort to sarcasm, but at this point  didn't think he was truely grasping my issue.)

at this point in the conversation spontaneous applause broke out and i found i was being clear respectful and vocal in front of about a dozen customers who when asked to put their hands up all suggested that they'd have bought more X if there had been more on the shelves.

i think that was what may have made the store manager mutter something about awkward customers and retreat to his office. Although it may have been the clapping and thumbs up from several members of his staff that did it. Hard to be sure.

You're referring to the Hughes Effect.  When you've hit upon an excellent product, you can rest assured it will be discontinued shortly.  This holds true in numerous industries.  Quality, success and popularity are not rewarded.  The Jarvie Corollary holds that when consumers have identified a suitable second, the first is reintroduced to the market.

In your local GW manager's defense; more often than not its at the distribution level that you see that allocation snafu's.  Our local GW always sold out of a few army books WEEKLY.  But sure enough, they'd send out two to replace them, instead of upping their allotment.

( modifed to add body of message, tab keys confirm post, not indent para)
Ive a freind ( who shall remain nameless) who has walked inGW on a couple of times and gone " im starting a new army X, and want the following 2of A, 6 packs of B, 4 of vehicle theta, etc." And when told that they dont have some thing in as they sold a blister earlyer in the week ( when you need a certain minimum number of blisters to make the unit, and they dont have enough.), Has gone "fair nough, thats one army you wont sell, ill get a computer game and a couple of books instead" and walked out.
they need to be able to keep more stock, and they need to keep in enough option to purchase a resonable army.
