A new banner & popup ad on CMoN.  The type that 'tricks' you into clicking it by answering a multiple choice question.  The gimmick in this case is "How intelligent are you?" with an accompanying test.  According to the ad, your intelligence is dependent on your colour vision, 'cos that's the type of test it shows. :banghead:

Sorry Somaticon.  Hope it gets better soon.

Being glad that NIN at Sonisphere were (not very good) as it was their last show in the UK.  With the albums getting worse in recent releases and his performances lacking somewhat in passion and presence I say good riddance.

Actually I might have mis-posted as this didn't actually evoke any emotional response at all whatsoever, but that annoys me.

Playing Dark Heresy over mirc with a bunch of nitpickers/rules lawyers in the group.  I think I just spent the best part of two hours browsing youtube, while two or three bickered and fussed over every miniscule option and dice roll since my last combat round.  :faint:

Now they're confused as to why I haven't been paying attention.

Brett Farce, sorry, Favre.

For those who don't watch American Football, he was a player for Green Bay (one of their greatest ever, to be fair to him), who, over the last four or five years, has hummed and hawwed during every off season about retirement, finally retiring after the 2007 season - only to then unretire and play for the New York Jets last year.

After last season, he retired again, except come March, he then started humming and hawwing again about un-retiring and has now done so to play for Minnesota (one of Green Bay's divisional rivals).

Great player in his heyday, but what's his goal, to play one season for, and then retire from, every single team in the league?
Or is he just an attention junkie who can't bear the thought that someone else might be getting a nano-second of "his" media attention (most of the humming and hawwing has been in "exclusive" interviews with every single media organisation he can find to talk to)?

I think you're being unfair to Favre, Chris_M, it takes two to Tango, as they say.

My take is he keeps getting pushed to retire because he is a relatively old for an NFL player, but he still has the desire to play and since leaving Green Bay has found other teams who want to employ him.  If he wants to play and someone wants to employ him, who am I to say he has to retire because he's 39 (I'm mean, FFS, 39!).

And frankly, for US$25M for two years I'd play QB for the vikings - hell, I'd play bothways and and be hit every down for two years for $25M :D

Now if you're talking Plaxico, a professional athlete who shoots himself in the leg with an illegal firearm and expects not to go to prison.  He pisses me right off. :grrr: Or Stallworth: DUI Manslaughter and only gets 29 days :grrr: or even Vick :grrr:

$25M? Give me 1% of that and I'd be there - I'd even sweep the stadium after the game. :)

I did consider all that, but considering all the will-he, won't he, the "exclusive" media interviews, the "just a farm boy in Mississippi" humility and the rest of it over the last few years (he had his own changing room in Green Bay, rather than changing with the rest of the team - way to build team spirit), I think it's a little more than someone in the twilight of his career with the desire to play being pushed out by the suits in charge in favour of younger people.

If he wants to play until he's 50 and can still compete then, then fine, good on him (that career interceptions record will never ever be broken if he does ;) ). Let's just not have the whole soap opera every flippin' spring and summer.

Anyway, he started well, but really came off the rails for the Jets late last season (and the Packers the season before - I was at the Cowboys game and he wasn't exactly firing on all cylinders before he had to come off injured and Aaron Rodgers replaced him), the Titans game was kind of the last highlight (and mainly I think due to the Titans coming apart under the expectations of trying for a perfect season).

He's also coming off rotator cuff surgery, and the Vikings only started looking at him once he started making noises about reversing his retirement yet again. (A cynic might even suggest he retired from the Jets so that Green Bay wouldn't get anything based on the trade that sent him to the Jets last summer, and if I were them, I'd be making an official complaint to the league about it).

For a counter example - look at Drew Bledsoe, took out a full page ad in a Boston newspaper to thank all the people who supported him during his time at the Patriots after they released him, then gave a real heartfelt thanks when he finally retired at Dallas. A man with true class and a worthy eventual member of Canton.

And I'm a Dolphins fan, so I automatically dislike anything to do with the Patriots :D.

Hmm, rather than an All-Pro team, how about an All-Me-Me-Me-Team? Could have Favre throwing to Terrell Owens, Randy Moss and Antonio Cromartie.

Plaxico Burress - aside from the basic parts of his case (the "wisdom" of carrying a concealed firearm in a public place, let alone everything else about it), considering that his self-inflicted injury happened on weekend of the first anniversary of the (eventual) fatal shooting of Sean Taylor (and remember, the following weekend the Giants were at the Redskins for Sean Taylor's memorial game and induction to the Redskins ring of honour), I've no sympathy for him.

Same for Stallworth - although Roger Goodell's suspended him for this season (without pay IIRC) for a serious breach of the NFL's code of player conduct.

And then Vick - what he did was completely reprehensible.

But he has served his time, as mandated by the courts, and the Eagles haven't exactly picked him up for mega-bucks (although I had a feeling he'd go to the Pats as a backup in case Tom Brady gets the jitters about his knee the moment opposition linebackers start getting close to him), and most of what he's going to earn will go straight to his creditors.

Although as Tony Kornheiser once said on a MNF football game, he'd better be able to say "I'm sorry for what I did" 1000 times a day in every single language on Earth, and mean it...

Fair enough. :)

Although on one of the other subjects, it's just broken that Plaxico's plea bargained to 2 years prison, with two years mandatory supervision afterwards. He was facing 3 1/2 years minimum if it went to trial.

Thanks for the heads-up on this one Chris.  I am much less annoyed to hear he is accepting some responsibility for the very silly thing he did.

Water companies  :hmmm
I reported a leak under the footpath at the end of my driveway yesterday afternoon. I was told it will take between 3 -5 working days for someone to come out and determine what the problem is ........... err a broken pipe by any chance ?  :scratchhead: The repair should then be carried out within 15 days !
I went to have a look this afternoon when I got up and it has gone from a damp patch to a steady trickle pushing up sand from the kerb edge and the tarmac path is starting to crack and lift. Now I don't wish to rush Anglian Water but last time this happened on the opposite side of the road, the pavement collapsed
and several thousand litres of water went down the hill to the bottom of the road flooding some manholes and knocking the phonelines out for 3 days !
Oh, this is the same company who sent a leaflet round about conserving water and what a great job they are doing about fixing leaks..............................
Heaven doesn't want me. Hell is afraid i will take over !

I have been informed by my water company that I have a leak on my water main and as its on my property it's my responsibility to get it fixed within eight days otherwise they will do it themselves and charge me a fortune. Not one local company wants the job and apparently neither does the water company. It's the end of August everyones away on holiday.

Still have a water leak and some very deepholes where we have had to drive over it to get up the driveway - someone did come out last friday and spray blue paint around it and stick an "Anglian water aware " sign in my conifer tree.............. don't know why they needed the blue paint it's pretty bleedin' obvious where the leak is
Oh and the road surface is starting to crack up now..................................
