Here's a new one .... JURY SERVICE ! Yesterday i sat around for 7 hours bored stiff with only old copies of national geographic, out of date womens magazines and readers digest magazines from 1992 (i kid you not !) only to be told we weren't needed ! Today we sat around for 3 hours only to be told we could go home for the rest of the week and to ring up friday to see if we will be needed next week ! I was really looking forward to sitting on a case but have ended up wasting two days with nothing ! The two cases we were due for selection on both pleaded guilty at the last minute so didn't require a jury !  Whats more i think I've O.D on nicotine (i always end up smoking more when i'm bored) :explodinghead:
Heaven doesn't want me. Hell is afraid i will take over !

Things that really get on my nerves...

Foreign call center staff. I'm no racist but it's a real pain in the backside when you call tech support for your internet service and end up with some indian bloke who doesn't even attempt to make himself easier to understand explaining how to get Virgin Media broadband working properly.

People who don't mind screwing around with other people and winding them up, but get angry when people do it back to them.

Parents who can't, or won't, control their kids.

You know what really p***es me off right now?
   :tantrum:
I was looking foward to a nice, quiet christmas AT HOME here with my family.
Now my ma thought, she'd like to celebrate this fella's birth in the snowy wonder-magic mountains of Austria
So far, so good.
But:
As she booked this 8 room hut, she included three TERRIBLE friends and a dog (which is really nice actually).
Aw, I could throw up right away, I cannot say I won't join, as then family peace was right in the arse and my mom would cry her eyes out and right back in.
Apart from that, I want to support my dad, who feels same as I do.
Hooray.  :x

As a dedicated pedestrian, what really p***es me of is cyclists.  Specifically the ones who cycle on the pavements.  At great speed.  In the dark.  Without lights.  :grrr:

"Remember, remember, the 5th of November,
Gunpowder,treason and plot...."

There's a reason for the old rhyme. It doesn't mention letting fireworks off on the fourth, or the 6th, or the middle of September.  :tantrum:

*duffing over*
Agreed, but there's also Diwali at around this time of year, which seems to be an excuse for people to let fireworks off as well.

As a driver, they really p*** me off too when they just ride on through red traffic lights.
A couple of weeks ago - had I been in any kind of a hurry rather than just ambling home - I would have collected one who came out at speed from a side road, with restricted view onto the main road where I was coming from.

And at number 1, cold sales calls, possibly the only thing that makes me go  :explodinghead:

What really p***es ME of is kids who can't control their parents.
Adults who walk around as if everything adult was so vital and important whereas the much more important activity of playing is frowned upon. A world built for grown ups and their fairly nonsensical activities that adults try to stain with a thin veneer of "This is serious and important", that p***es me of.

Of course a kid lying down in the middle of a shop screaming for toys is not a nice sight but that's really part of the ADULT world to (The toyindustry and the advertisements directed towards kids), an adult world that small kids are incapable of understanding fully, so not much else could really be expected. Kids rarely show this behaviour outside of consumer oriented activities. Consumption is a very complex thing for small kids to understand.

And what kind of "control" over kids do people who mention this have in mind? "See to that they don't get in my way because I'm adult and IMPORTANT" is a type of "control" I'm NOT subscribing to.

Treating all other people with respect and kindness though is a type of "control" I would agree is necessary. I don't get angry at kids who haven't learned that. I just feel very sorry for them and their parents. Something must be pretty wrong in their lives - materially or psychologically - for those probems to arise and getting angry at them won't help, just worsen the situation.

Bodhi is dead on. My parents were that way with me but I guess being a manchild allows me more empathy with my children or maybe it's that I have total apathy for everything not relating to my family. My world stops for them but I guess some folks just don't feel that obligation and responsibilty to their children.

I agree with Bodhi there, it makes sense, what he says. But it still ticks me off when they don't even explain to their kids that throwing rocks at baies is wrong, and they don't teach them to apologise for kicking a football at somebody's two-year old sister. Or when they climb over your back garden fence, in plain sight of their parents, and take your brother's bike.

I have more examples, but I can't be bothered to write them all up.

You can get stuff from many major supermarkets called 'petaway' (and other names along the same theme) it should discourage unwanted cats in your flower beds.

Along the same theme, take a trip to your local Starbucks, pick up a couple (or more) of free bags of 'Grinds for your Garden' sprinkle liberally all over your flower beds etc...  Cats hate getting coffee grinds in their hair/fur and won't crap in your garden any more.

I did jury service about 9 years back, exactly the same sort of thing (I always made sure I had a book to read!) went for 2 weeks and sat on one trial which was postponed due to the defence not having information that the prosecution had.  Otherwise a whole load of sitting around and waiting and a whole lot of not doing much, or getting sent home halfway through the day because there was nothing to do.

Agree with you there. Much as I'm happy that we're moving towards a world (at least in our well fed little northern wellfare zone...) where adults or authorities should not automatically get respect just for BEING adults or authorities I'm also sad that we're moving towards a world where adults who don't get automatic respect haven't got the strength, energy and guts to EARN respect for themselves by seeing the children. And seeing the children most definitely includes telling them of when they're acting foolishly.

I got called up for local jury duty last month. Clocked in at 8:00 AM, filled out a survey, told to be back at 1:30 PM (rode the train so I was stuck with nothing to do besides read Anasasi Boys by Gaiman), got back and the defense and prosecution were supposed to have only an hour to interview but both ran about a half hour longer and took a good half hour in between to deliberate. Got released around 6:00 pm with a whopping $6.00 check just in time to miss the last workshift train and have to wait for the 7:30 pm evening run. I wasn't chosen to serve on the jury which is fine as it was a case dealing with inappropriate conduct with a child and I would rather be spared all that anyway.

In another twist, after being so miffed about a crappy first time reporting, I got called up for Federal jury duty just last week! What are the odds?

I drive coaches part time, so I appreciate both your points. Some cyclists think you can give them as much room in a bus as a car, and just come out of side roads without looking. On the other hand, a lot of drivers can't wait on and squeeze past far too close to cyclists. I'll shut up now before I get really on get on my hobbyhorse about bad driving!

The fact that a rare and OOP miniature is now in a landfill or buried in somebodies back room because some part time postie decides it's too far to walk from the post office to my front door. :tantrum:

When I worked as a postman people would in the beginning come out and yell insults at me for letters (and money!!) not delivered. After two weeks I found out why. The guy before me had "sorted" the post by simply throwing half of it away!!! He promptly got fired on discovery of course. And I was left handling the angry crowd...
Doesn't p**ss me of now (this was MANY years ago) but it sure made me steam at the time.

Oh after the first week I found a half eaten pizza that he had stuffed deep inside the post sorting slots...

No. But a postmans wages being what they are I wouldn't miss an opportunity for free food. I made porridge of it and some old left over envelopes and a few bills that I'm sure noone would miss.
