That sucks, but why are you off the meds?
A good question. The medication I've been on for 4 years just started to be less less efficient. At some point very soon it was likely it would be withheld from me purely on economic grounds (you would not believe what one injection costs the NHS and I was injecting every week. If it's not benefiting me, then the NHS won't continue funding it.*). My specialist has recommended another treatment (which, to be honest, scares the living carp out of me) that involves being on a drip and getting medicated over the course of a day. Wait two weeks, then repeat. Apparently, it can be pretty unpleasant, but if it works then it can give 6-36 months without symptoms. Before I can start that though, I need to 'wash out' the old meds. Hence this period.
* Before anyone says something along the lines of 'Huh! Typical NHS, all about the money', I'm OK with this. It's incredibly expensive and should go where it will do most good. As it's not been working as well for me, then I think someone else
should be getting it. It's been life-changing for me, so I hope my local rheumatology unit can reallocate the funding and improve someone else's quality of life. However lousy I'm feeling right now, however bad the pain is, or the restricted movement, I see people in the waiting room that are way worse than me. Hopefully what a friend called 'the magic leg needle' will work for them.
