The Banishing...

You could cut the air with a knife. Taxxis steadied herself and fixed the demon with her steely gaze. She had waited a long time for this moment - all her life in fact. How misguided her peers were to think this was for personal gain; for the power, for the kudos. They couldn't have been more wrong. As her mount shifted slightly, she allowed her mind to drift back to her childhood - to that terrible night when her sister had been taken - no stolen from her family. She was just a scared little girl back then, hiding behind her big sister who even at the tender age of 12 had faced the demon with so much courage. She never made a sound, not even when he snatched her away, never to be seen again.

This time it would be different. She was different.

Unbeknown to the demon, he'd created his captor - made her what she was today. Maybe that's why he was so aggitated.  When she first came to him, there had been something familiar about her, something that stirred his senses. He should have listened, but she was warm - oh so warm. As she wove her spell, pulling him deeper and deeper into her trap, he'd given willingly to his desire. With her deception complete, she had turned on him with such swift and sudden retribution that even now he was in denial, blind to her intentions.

Taxxis snapped her attention back to the present and watched the demon writhing and twisting, trying to free himself from his bonds. She knew that this would be her only chance, if she failed, he would not allow her to live. She glanced at her body guards, who shifted uneasily; their prescence here not out of loyalty but fear at what she would do to them if they ran.

She opened the book at the marked page. Closing her eyes she took a long deep breath. Images of her lost sister rushed through her mind and she drew strength from them, gained focus. When she at last opened her eyes, the spell was already on her lips; with her staff held high she fell into a rhythmic chant, each repetition her voice gaining strength. As she fixed Him with her eyes, a wry smile caught her lips as a flicker of realisation passed across the demons face. A realisation that this wasn't going to end well....

Oh! Not only is your scenery incredibly detailed, but this demonic pit... :jawdrop:

This is really amazing, it was definitively worth all this work and troubles with the resin  :applause:

That worked really well in the end; the base and the resin really do set it off. Did you redo the dirt? It looks very real.

Very nice!

As everyone has said, it looks great but I have 1 tiny little problem. The book on the back of the hell beast.  How is it floating there???? Great use of the beast itself I would never have thought of using one of them as a mount for Taxxis.

Excellent. :applause:

I like the little touches-the drool and glowing eyes on the mount, the bubbling pit, the way the beast's pulling one chain and not the other in the frozen moment. And the story's good, as well.

Knew you could do it

Flames and drool and the end (or beginning) of a saga. Love the flame effects in the circle of banishment and the implied struggle of the demon against the chains. Top notch work to be certain.

Thank you for all the kind comments - I am really very proud of this piece.  There were certainly a lot of ups and downs in the making and some definite lessons learned.  I was shocked to realise that I painted more models on this single scene than I did in the whole of 2006!   Now that it's all over, I can say hand on heart that I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of this competition and amazingly I still feel painty  :D

I will post up lots of WIPs over on slavetopaint.com this weekend - I've never taken quite so many pictures as I did for this!!  I might need a new hard drive

@Sprout - I did re-do the grass as I wasn't happy with the original stuff. I'd painted it and it looked too flat - so with some useful advice from Fluffy, I invested in some new grass and 'sewed the seeds and scattered...' and it came out a lot better  :D  The 'dirt' is as I originally did it, but with some nice mottled brown flock added round the edges. I think it makes a softer transition against the grass.

I think that worked very well, it looks far more part of the ground than just lying on it (it looked good before but you can really see a difference now).

<snip>.... The book on the back of the hell beast.  How is it floating there???? <snip>

Well.....she is a powerful sorceress and I guess the book could be anywhere she wanted - even floating in front of her face - but that's hard to model ya know ...

This looks a little odd to me too, but as you say, you can explain anything with magic!

I really like this one. The grass is fantastic, as is the watery stuff. Nice paint jobs and the story was cool too.

Well done!  :applause:

The effects in the pool are great. That resin was put to good use! All of the miniatures look great and there terrain is very very good. I wish I could have this one displayed in my cabinet.
