Quick question.
Just wondering how easy it is to customize and convert HF minis. Haven't done so yet and wondering if its easier than GW. I know GW does rock solid minis where everything fails to make a dint cept a rotary blade tool, but I've noticed HF is generally more bendy and flexible. Does this mean I'd be able to cut through the smaller bits with a mere kraft knife? Even if I wanted to get rid of a lock of hair, I'd have to use some electrical tool...is this the case for HF?

well i removed Ray's Bat (:P) easily enough with a craft knife when i was making a trucker, and it was esy enough to give Wolf a hair cut

ive cut hair off and stuff with a knife.
but pleeeeease be carful as its too easy to slip trying to cut metal with a knife.
for anything thats too thick and you dont want the hassle of a rotary then get one of Andy's Razor saws they F'in brilliant and i use mine quite a bit as im too lazy to dig the dremmel out of the shed.

I have no trouble with converting Grymn.  A chop here, a dremmel there...I would say easier than GW but not by very much.

I had no troubles cutting HF for now. If you plan to use a rotary blade, you can drill a couple of holes next to each others where you want to cut, it will help your blade.

That's my mindset...the dremel is tucked away in a corner of the garage, and getting it out means I'd have to take it into the kitchen, open up the box, take everything out, plug it into a free socket (hard to come by), and deal with the fear I could chainsaw my fingers off (for me, if it whirs about, then it poses much more dangerous than a mere knife), and then leave everything as it is because I can't be 4r53d to put everything away; leaving my mam to clean up after me. :)

I'm often hacking up bits of models and adding bits...

I considered entering the hf painting compy, but then realised I have very few non-converted mini's...

I think Sally has a few of my non converted pieces...

 They are cut-able...

but I'll echo the statements of others...I nearly took off one finger at the first knuckle...mainly because I wasn't being careful and I slipped.

And blood doesn't look like TCR when it dries

Nice Conversion  :D .

I also recommend razor saws.  They are brilliant...but one slip and you're down to the bone   .

I use Andys razor saw, pin vice, clippers, pointy plyers, craft knife and a mini drill with (small grinder disk, grinding tool or drill attiched) .

As other people have said "Be very very carefull" it's too easy to get hurt and don't use blunt blades.

For what it's worth I find that the HF Minis are rather flexible as they are, so light position changes are do-able without cuts, but the metal itself cuts wonderfully with a standard fine bladed jig-saw (the one you used as a kid for cutting out those thin plywood shapes on the hobby bench... you know the ones where the blade snapped every time you looked at it wrong...)
And as I have performed painful non elective surgery on my hands with the rotary blade on my mini drill, the hand powered method is much preferable

HF are very, very hard figs, this is due to a high tin mix (I think),  a hard mix gives crisper detail but is a bugger to hack about. Always use eye protectors (seriously) I've been to the hospital a few times etc.
Get a pair of lockable pliers or a clamp with a shaft, that way the mini is about 2-3inches from your hand when you use a Dremel. Here's a pic of wip, most of the head/hair has been carved off with a Dremel.

HF metal is definately softer than GW.  small things are easy to cut with a sharp scalpel blade.

i use th erazor saw as it leaves a very crisp cut edge and takes away less than 1mm of the mini.  Andy's mini diamond files are awesome for removing stuff that you cant hack away with a scalpel. they do leave a rough surface though.

most clippers will cut the metal very easily aswell.

I would definitely have to agree with Medved here. that the metal used for HF miniatures are definitely softer than GW miniatures and cut/bend much more satisfactorally...

Similar minds and all that...  I was thinking more Equilibrium 'Gun Fu' styled, and I am sure I saw something similar on these boards already...
