Star signs ... true to character?
« on: January 11, 2006, 11:45:20 AM »
Okay, just one of those 'things' that crossed my mind at 5am today when putting Meg back to bed for the 8th time.

Can you tell a persons star sign by their behaviour?  For example a typical Cancerian (thats me) with a birthday on July 17th is supposed to be:

fundamentally conservative and home-loving nature with a comfortable type of house which belongs to the family rather than existing as a showcase to impress visitors. = true

That is not to say that the Cancerian is unsociable, just that for them there is a time to socialize and a time to be solitary, and this is part of the apparent contradiction in their nature. = true again

Outwardly they can appear formidable (me??...heheheheh) ,unemotional, uncompromising, obstinately tenacious, purposeful, energetic, shrewd, intuitive and wise, sometimes with a philosophical profundity of thought verging on inspiration. Their intimates, however, may see a very different character, one with a sympathetic and kindly sensitivity to other people

Cancer with Pisces = Harmonious (thats good cos i married a Piscean!)

apparrently also i would make a good nurse and love children.  both of those are true.  Also apparrently i am a fair employer and a hard working employee. (true i think!............i shall have to ask Sarah tomorrow!)

i looked through about 10 sites that 'claimed' to have true descriptions and to be quite honest i fitted 75% into most of them.  But is this because i am a 'true cancerian' or just because the descriptions for each star sign are 'weighted' to make sure that each person fits into them somewhere and therefore they are accurate? (NOTE:  Cancerians are by nature 'suspicious' and 'cynical'!........lol)

That is the pondering for the day folks.  so dont be shy...........say your birthday and whether you are typical of your star sign or not.
A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather & ask for it back when it starts to rain.

most mornings i wake up grumpy.   sometimes i just let him sleep.

my life consists of brief snatched moments of living my life hidden deep among chaos, confusion& the  going crazy, every night i go to sleep filled with hope & enthusiasm for the new day coming.  then i wake up & think "here I go again" & just aim to survive.

Don't know enough about star signs to know if I'm a typical one.  But just truck me as an idea, something to do over the year!  Have a star sign inspired miniature every month.

OK, for me, I am a Virgo (16th September) and according to;
http://www.astro-uk.dircon.co.uk/virgo.html

that means;

the Earthy Virgo Character

Virgo THE VIRGIN is the sign of the critic, the technician
true, I am a bit of a critic and tech-head.  Although i have not been a Virgin for quite some time...

Virgo, you may be shy, introverted, and self-conscious on the surface, but when love comes your way, you relax and blossom! Virgos find it hard to express love, they have a thoughtful approach and always look before they leap.
Hmmm, this is an oddity, with everyone else, shy and introverted is not a characteristic I show.  BUT, when it comes to 'love', yes this is mostly very true.
Although in everything I tend to leap first and hope that I make it...  Like Will E Coyote

The bright side
The Virgo character is marked by a sharp intellect which is typically used to analyse the natural order.
I keep telling people this...  but will they listen?  ;)

Virgos are methodical, oh so precise, and are attracted to only that knowledge that can be applied usefully.
That'll explain my encycliopedic knowledge of Trivia, TV and Movies, still it won ?6 on the pub quiz machine the other night...

They will happily share this information with anyone, it confirms their own usefulness in the world, and brings them eagerly out of there shells.
true, when discussing stuff I know all about I can ramble on a bit...

Virgo pursues very high standards born out of realism and a tight grip on their environment, rather than any chase of high ideals.
Mostly true, even to the point of correcting the spelling error in this very sentence.

Caution is a Virgo trait which if used positively will give them a fine sense of discrimination between practical ideas and those to be left in the sky.
again mostly true, but I rarely discriminate in favour of the practical.

Virgos will usually develop this skill to improve themselves and their surroundings as they place great pride in tangible achievements.
true

Discriminating, fastidious, analytical, meticulous, modest, precise.
I'd say thats true, especially the modest part.

The dark side
In their urge to label, organise, and precisely understand all things in life, Virgo can become rather obsessed with the whole idea of "order". Anything that upsets this harmony and understanding could expose them to the terrors of the unknown! For Virgos "there is a place for everything, and everything has its place". Virgo will do anything to achieve this state.
ahem.  yes.  i have to agree here, we tend to be a bit anal about stuff.  I really have to fight to stop my CD's and DVD's from getting alphabatised, but my GW paints remain in the same order they came in.

Fussy, self conscious, cynical, hypercritical, finicky, over-conforming, over cautious at times.
Where this is true, it is Oh, so very true, but I wouldn't think I was that conformist or over-cautious, those left me behind...

Ailments
Anorexia, bowel problems, indigestion, intestinal infections, appendicitis, malnutrition, hernia.
Well, theres something to look forward too then!

Beneficial foods
Lemons and caraway seeds.
At the same time?

I've never given Astrology much credit...

However, (trying to ignore the skeptic in me) I suppose you could see some reasons for any trends that might occur. Babies born in the middle of winter will have different initial experiences to those born in the middle of summer and it seems reasonable that that could have a significant impact on how they turn out. I wonder if there is a better general match for those of us in the Northern hemisphere? Or possibly they are written in such a way that you'll find similarities. It would be interesting to see the results of a blind test to see if any statistically significant trends occur...

To actually answer the question. I have absolutely no idea. What are sagitarians meant to be like?

Strangely enough I'm a virgo too and it shows :p. My father is an astrologer (not the cheap newspaper kind but the proper kind who actualy know what they are doing and can draw up a proper chart instead of simply publishing a vague bunch of Nostradamus like things that could mean nothing at all but will mean something if you want them to). Having looked at some of his work I must say that properly done astrology is very credible, it's just the cheap newspaper rubbish that's highly unreliable.

Also you can't always expect people to stay true to star sign because there are many mitigating factors. For instance I am a virgo with leo rising (and I remember mercury being quite prominent too). That makes me a virgo but different in some ways to what you would expect the classic virgo to be like. Similarly everyone else has differences so you can't just say it's a load of rubbish because someone's not an exact copy of a general group without the other influences that they have. That sentence probably came across as being a bit vague but I can't be arsed to try and rewrite it clearer :p.

I was born in 1988, I am a dragon 8)

DRAGON: Full of vitality and enthusiasm, the Dragon is a popular individual even with the reputation of being foolhardy and a "big mouth" at times. You are intelligent, gifted, and a perfectionist but these qualities make you unduly demanding on others. You would be well-suited to be an artist, priest, or politician.

Big mouth? Moi?
You guys don't find me demanding, do you?  :)

As for the star sign, Aqauarius, but like others I've no idea what that means.

Don't know about you being a pig but your chinese sign is the rat, unless you ment 1971 then you are a pig.

Born 1967 (Goat).
GOAT:Except for the knack of always getting off on the wrong foot with people (not like me at all), the Goat can be charming company. Your are elegant :erm:     (this is starting to take the makil) and artistic (You can tell that from my painted mini's ) but the first to complain about things. (me complain thats not like me at all, who runs that website so i can send them an email about it) Put aside your pessimism and worry and try to be less dependent on material comforts. (is that stop buying mini's   ) You would be best as an actor, gardener, or beachcomber. (i could never remember my lines,i hate Gardening big time they are all just weeds, the only thing i do on a beach is beach cast but i could beachcomb)

Im a virgo by usual astrology and a Dargon by the chinese star charts.
Virgo being an earth sign and equivelant to the pig in chinese, and a dragon in chines which is equivelant to aries in normal.
Now according to certain astrologers a virgo going out with a aries is a bad combination and its true I went out with a girl who was an aries, now worst still is that she was born in the year of the pig which made a tempestuous relationship doubly worse :D
Lets just say it lasted six months and imploded :D
