Goodbye FoD
« on: June 13, 2017, 11:38:48 AM »
Well I'm sure I'm not the only one to get the email about the Forum closing (to some degree). It's pretty sad but fully understandable as the traffic here has been pretty small.
I'd just like to say thanks to Andy for keeping this running as long as it has been going. Heresy is the miniature company that brought me back into the miniature hobby quite a few years ago now and pulled me out of the GW hobby and made me realise there is more to fantasy miniatures than that one company. One of my first purchases was a set of sculpting tools, which I still use and have even made a tidy bit of cash off some sculpts I have sold.
I've really enjoyed my time here in the forum and it has been great making contacts and, dare I say, friends with like minded interests.

Thanks all,

It's been fun.

Yep... I'll echo those Beefcake sentiments :)

The FoD has been my favourite forum since 2004... 13 years! That may be why I am the top poster on here :)

I'd like to thank Andy for keeping this going for as long as he has... he didn't need to and he could have done without the additional expense so... Cheers Andy, it has been a blast and I have appreciated the effort, very much.

Sadly, forum traffic has reduced all over the place (not just on the FoD) since Facebook turned up and that, sadly, means that a lot of forums are like ghost towns nowadays. I am not surprised that alternative arrangements are being made.

I have made some great friends and contacts as a result of the FoD and I will be forever grateful for that.

Best wishes to all of my FoD allies and best wishes to the future of the FoD, in whatever format it takes.

Most of all... Cheers, Andy :) ... it's been a heck of a ride :)

Sorry to see it go, but the world moves on.
All good things must come to an end, they say.

The FoD has always been a friendly place, and Heresy rejuvinated my passion for miniatures and painting, but I must admit that my visits and post have been more infrequent. I can completely understand Andy's decision.

Thanks to everyone who participated, from the discussions to sharing photos of your painted projects, from the Diorama of Doom to the infrequent sculpting competitions (which increased my respect for those who push the putty enormously), and to the good will that is found in abundence.
But most of all to Andy, for putting up with us.

I got the email the other day. I'm gutted to see the FOD go even if only for a short time. Kudos to Andy for keeping it going all this time. He's had it rough with Heresy and I wish I'd have been in a better position to help more. Still I've bought a few minis over the years including the Vampiress and a few sci fi minis.

This is the first I've heard about it.  It's a sad thing.  I'll echo the sentiments that have already been expressed.  Thanks to all for making this such a welcoming place, and for the support and encouragement for those of us who came here, new to the concept of showing off our newly painted figures to anyone at all, let alone the world.  I myself found it rather stressful when I first started considering posting my work for all to see.

Thank you very much Andy for keeping this going, when you already had too much on the go.  Maybe I'll see some of you over at LAF if I ever do more that peruse the sale/wanted boards.  Maybe I'll have to figure out how the twit-thing works or get one of those insta-graham-cracker-whatevers to post pictures of painted works.

I'll certainly miss it.  At it's peak, before the dragon came, it was a terrific forum.  There's loads of very talented people here, and knowledgeable and pleasant gamers all around.  I've been a member for several years, though I did lapse for a while and had to come back under a new handle, and it's always been a favorite.  I wish I'd contributed more, but I haven't been motivated to paint much of anything in quite some time.

May I suggest a Facebook Group of Doom?

BY a miracle, it's still here, because I can still post here. The webhost tech helpfully copied it across and stuck it in a subdomain on the main heresy site, and there's a bit of finessing to do but it still works!

TBH I've had a quick look and couldn't find the bloody directory it's been put in. Will search when I've got time.
