Holy Velociraptor Bat Man!
« on: May 25, 2014, 06:48:06 PM »
For no apparent reason, I decided to paint a cheap plastic dinosaur...

Here's some comparison:

here's another pic:

I was quite surprised at how a simple paint job can transform these tacky little dinosaurs... and I got 12 for 1.00 :)

I'll be the first to admit that the clean-up is a bit rushed and that the details are 'rustic' but I was amazed at how much detail was hidden by the garish paint on the original. I have started painting another couple and will be posting pics soon... for 1.00, I am stunned by what I can achieve with a prime, single basecoat, wash and highlight.

These are currently on sale in 'The Entertainer' toy shops. I'd recommend anyone to give it a go. It gives you a whole new appreciation of what is out there. Let's face it... if you look at the top comparison pic, there IS no comparison :)

I've done the same with farm animals.

Really nice work! The texture seems to lend itself well to a simple wash and highlight - you've done a great job of turning some cheapo toys into some really nice pieces.
