Cheers for the info

. Once I've sorted some mould rubber I'll give basic plaster a go to get the hang of it and see how it looks... then I'll see if I can cope with your suggestion... trial and error will be required

(I've never done any casting... EVER so I just want to start simple and work up).
Do you have those days when someone suggests something and as much as you really don't want it to, the suggestion takes root in your mind to a point where you can't help but start plans to put it into action?
Someone suggested that I should have some veteran Tyranid hunters in this army...
...and it has really planted a seed.
My thoughts are to have some Squat survivors that were pretty badly mauled but were able to get fixed up by the Adeptus Mechanicus in exchange for some help with tech. The Squats and the mechanicus have always had an affinity with each other so what better way to show it than a bit of mutual trade... bionics for weapon tech?
The basic idea is that the survivors are likely to have at least one, possibly four amputations (due to all those claws) and some will have burns/scarred faces etc (due to the acid blood).
Now, I could sculpt/scratch build but it would take too long. I could use Necron parts (but then they would look like servitors)... however, what about using Skitarii parts? I could even use the rules for Skitarii for the veterans. I won't be covering them in Tyranid trophies (they aren't Orks... Squats don't need to be covered in bits of their enemies) so a mix of Skitarii bionics and Squat parts.
But I need to finish the command squad! I've also just ordered another three Vulkans to turn into Sentinels...
I wish that I could switch off sometimes
