The only trouble with the badgers is that they have a sort of 'feral' armour on them and that doesn't really go with the uniform look of the standard platoons. With that in mind, I am trying to decide just how 'feral' the riders should be. I will be using the standard plastic Squat bodies with the bald heads with glasses. I plan to chop the bodies at the waist, cut the boots off and use the torso with the boots and green-stuff in between.

I could give the riders mohicans but that would be a bit close to the priests I have planned. I could give them berets but that ties them a little too closely with the support platoon (which will be uniform but with berets instead of helmets). I could give them alternative hats/helmets... Hmm.

The other option is to give them bare arms rather than covered with sleeves. What about trophies on the badgers (the heads of their enemies? Is that too much?).

So the plan is to get the riders chopped, have the trousers sculpted and heads/boots glued on and then attach them to the badgers. Next will involve customisation... so it will be quite a lot of work but I will need to make a few decisions once they are on the badgers with regard to just how feral I want them to be...

Sometimes I question the amount of thought I put into projects like this... I could be using my mind for the good of all mankind instead! :D

Have you thought about making the armour on the Badgers like like surgical implants and have wires and the like sticking out? Probably not int he same theme though. Feral riders sounds cool. How about just wild unkempt hair, top knots or something like that?

Also I thought you might like this if you haven't see it. On sale quite a bit

I definitely want to go feral with the rough riders... and the top knot idea may work... maybe with some bandanas as well...

Don't show me pics of cool robots like that... especially when I absolutely love the shape and style but am trying to resist already :)

It is the sort of thing that I would buy loads of... if I wasn't on the verge of moving on to different climes and having to thin down a lot of stuff. I saw Scurve's version of it on LAF and it immediately got my mind working... :(

Yeah. Someone put a link to it on LAF abd I thought you might like it. Lol. I'm still biding my time to get some destroid defenders.

What scale? I've seen them in kit form at 1/200, 1/100, 1/72 an 1/60 (at various ridiculous prices).

I guess for 28mm, you could get away with 1/72 but 1/60 would definitely be preferable (but quite large).

... what about Tomahawks though?

1/72. They are only about $20 NZ from HLJ but they are always on back order when I check and I have no idea about their post rates, I guess I could just ask them. I like the tomahawk but too pricey. I never knew they were macross until a short time ago (a year or so). I always thought of them as the battletech robots.

Actually I checked and I can see their postage rates which aren't too bad. Where are those ones from? How do they scale with 28mm?

They are all from EBay and the larger ones are about 5-6 inches tall. There is space in the torso for a 28mm bod but they are obviously scaled for much smaller (1/100 scale) troops.

All of the ones in the picture were put together with a view to using them for 28mm armies (but Grymn ones... as is usually the case :D ).

They are poseable but the legs have a limited range . All the joints move, if that helps :)? (or they would do if I hadn't deliberately glued them to stop it)

:lmao: Yeah but for army building you don't really want play things with moveable parts. Although if I got a bunch my son and daughter would snap a few up just like they have with some of my frostgrave plastics (which I'm happy to give them BTW)

Back to the subject of Space Dwarfs and their army, here's a badger on a new, shiny base:

The bases are from GW but there's more info (including some Exo/Sentinel conversions) over at Inso's World:

In a further, some might say heretical move, I have decided to add a unit of wyrdvane psykers to my Squat army so what better way to do it than to recycle something from yester-year?

As a result, I had a sudden burst of inspiration and decided that Hrud would be cool additions to the army and I had something in mind so I went into my cupboard and pulled these out:

My frog-people! Now I know that the general thoughts on Hrud are that they were place-holders for space-rats but the picture in the Rogue Trader rule book didn't show a face, just a cloaked figure with a rat's tail... so that is what I have made :). I may add some pouches to them but apart from that, they are finished.

I hope you like them :)

No mushrooms... just the start of a badger rider:

As is usual, there is more information on my blog and this week, it has a guide to making my frog faces, the rough rider WIP and some finished Sentinels:

... oh go on then... here's a mushroom :) :

Aluminium tube (1/16" diameter 50mm long) with very fine brass wire wrapped around it (I drilled into the tube so that the tail of the brass could be held in place while I wound it onto the tube). Glued in place with a quick smear of super-glue to hold it in place. Then it is a bit of putty to tidy things up. I haven't decided how to represent the explosive tip yet but it won't be difficult :) .

So, another day and more Squat goodness arrives in the thread, this time... not for me... a commission.

Here's a teaser:

... and there is a whole squad of them here:

http://insosworld.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/a-single-minded-post.html

It is nice to actually finish a commission (rather than being rubbish).

While I was converting some gunners for my heavy weapon tractors (2nd platoon - and they are all done, waiting to dry :) ), I decided that I couldn't wait any longer so I started putting together a Bullgryn that is made from a Mantic Dreadball Orx model... here is the first test (WIP) with a Hasslefree human and an older version of a GW Ogryn:

I had hoped to be a bit further along with these... but here are five finished gunners with five assembled missile launchers:

The loaders are on the table and are still WIP... but will be finished this week (at some point).
