Closing down...
« on: July 24, 2013, 10:12:15 AM »
.. for two weeks or more starting Friday.

I now have the two big pressure pots and vacuum chamber that I need for the resin casting process. I'll be ordering a few things today - foamed pvc, resin, silicon, elastic bands, etc to get the mould making process started. The pots need adapting - shelves inside, levelled off on stands and thus there is a good week or two's work just to make all the moulds etc before I can begin casting.

The only way to do it is to not send out orders for at least two weeks whilst I get set up! There will be a BIG SALE to cover the time I'm closed, possibly with a ludicrous discount attached. But do be aware that this means the your order won't be posted for at least 3 weeks and it will take me at least 2 further weeks afterwards to  catch up - this is a MASSIVE amount of work I'm about to undertake but I have no choice.

Once the resin moulds are working, I'll be coming in early and staying late every day until the task is done and the queue is sorted out. Even if I somehow manage to get 2 Dragons a day cast up, it would still take me 5 months to get clear!

There is a LOT of work ahead of me. A ridiculous amount. But I have a lot of promises to keep and no other way to keep them, so here we go!

Hopefully once things get moving I will be able to find the funds to get some more pots and speed things up.

So, from Friday, no orders will be posted, but there will be a big Sale to cover your delay. Stay tuned for details!

Good luck. You deserve some.

I hope everything works out this time around because it will be a massive relief to get rid of the mill stone around your neck that is the dragon.

It's such a shame too, because it's by far the nicest dragon available (and probably ever), and should by all rights be a big money spinner! I'm sure Reaper will be making money hand over fist with their huge Bones dragons, because they were willing to compromise on quality a bit and invest a small fortune in PVC production - but I can't really see anything viable between extremely high quality hand-cast resin and factory injection-moulded plastic.

Embarrassingly, I got one of the test-casts at Salute a few years ago, got it about 80% assembled with much love and procreate and then realised that I had nowhere to store the full thing (with sticky-out tail and individual metal wing spikes) without it getting destroyed by pets/clumsy houseguests! I need to invest in an individual trophy case, I think. Did paint the tail though.

Anyway, now that I've recovered from Kickstarters am looking forward to increasing your workload even more in the sale! Hopefully you'll be able to get some extra help soon.

great news - I admire your dedication. I swear every time I see my little sister,15!, she always asks where my Dragon is. She wants it more than me I think  8::: .  It's a perfect time for a sale as well as the ole banko is looking healthy.

Is there really that much of a backlog of dragons? I hope you can get through them quickly. Get some money back into your pocket when the dragon business is sorted. What are you using google sketchup for? I use it quite a bit and will be using it a lot more when my 3d printer comes along.  :boing:

Guns. Lots of guns.

I hate sculpting them by hand. Jed made it look absolutely easy, but I'm having trouble just opening a new file and installing the various tool add-ons I need that he showed me!

Also, there's some bloke standing there that i can't get rid of!

So is the plan eventually to get some of your bigger monsters, trolls ogres etc, into resin as well. Would that reduce their cost or not make much impact at all? Or is it all secret squirrel?

The plan is to do all the bulky stuff I've not been able to do, like rock bases etc for that classic Ryker Pose and to provide bases for things like the Monstrous spider. Also to get the monsters into resin, although I have doubts about it cos some of those old monsters, the first ones I did, could really do with being sculpted again rather than just resined up (Manbane has had some touch-ups over the years to remove sausage fingers etc a bit, the troll needs better arms, Sir Roger's corpse needs a total re-do; that sort of thing.)

Imagine if you had walked in halfway through that conversation...

Placed a (very) modest order, my first with Heresy, to my eternal shame. I finally feel like a proper FoDer!

Hope all the plans work out, Mr Foster! Good luck
