An examination of the risible Imperial assault on Hoth.

Of course that entire argument makes the mistake of assuming that Vader's motivations would have been similar to that of a typical modern American commander, whose only aim would have been to serve his government efficiently, by crushing the rebellion.

However, we should also consider that Vader's motivations may be a little more complex. By the time of the assault on Hoth, Vader would already have been aware of the existence of Luke Skywalker and that he was "strong with the force". Being an evil Dark Lord, it is possible that Vader may, in some dark corner of his mind, not have been content with just serving the Emperor, but entertained visions of himself usurping power and ruling the galaxy himself. In fact, this may be just what he has in mind when he later suggests to Luke that they could rule the galaxy together.

Palpatine does not NEED Vader to rule the galaxy. There would be many more Admiral Ozzels to command his starfleet, and Grand Moff Tarkins to administer his numerous planetary systems for him. What he does need Darth Vader for is to counter the rebellion, because Moff Tarkins and Admiral Ozzels would not be up to the task.

In that sense, it is not actually in Darth Vader's personal interest to snuff out the rebellion, because without it, the galaxy would be at peace and the Emperor could just rule it through his imperial bureaucracy, while he himself would just be a relic of the past, laughed at by governors like Tarkin for his "sad devotion" to an ancient religion. As long as there is a rebellion, the Emperor needs Vader by his side.

This is utter rot. These conspiracy nuts committed so many errors in their so-called "exposee" that any credence I might have lended to their theory goes straight out the window. First, they incorrectly identify an unknown pilot as Wedge Antilles, yet the person in question -seen only briefly in archive footage, and presumed KIA due to a complete lack of records after the assault- bears absolutely no resemblance to the well-documented Antilles.

Second, they describe the thermal exhaust port on the Death Star as being only 2-feet wide. Using a completely unheard-of system of weights and measurements does little to establish your credibility; recovered schematic fragments establishes the dimensions of the port opening firmly at 2-meters in diameter. Goodness only knows what the conversion to this "foot" system is, but assuming it's referring the average length of a human foot (the only explanation that makes much sense,) then they just gave the port's diameter as roughly 1/3 its actual size! While that would support the theory of an inside job by making a successful strike by proton torpedo an absolute impossibility rather than an extreme improbability (not to mention guaranteeing that the footage of the actual strike would be fake,) I'm not about to believe that the Vader (how disrespectful they are to insist on referring to him by his self-rejected name!) leaked fake plans just to fool everyone into thinking that the port was wide enough to admit a proton torpedo and thus hiding internal sabotage. "Feet" indeed.

And where the hell is Aldebaran? Not in OUR galaxy, let me tell you! There are so many more factual errors and inconsistencies, it would render the whole thing laughable if it weren't for so many nutjobs taking it seriously.

You guys can keep your foil hats and blather on about Imperial Intelligence watching you poop. I'm outta here.

I can't believe that people talk about stuff like this as if it is real .

Surely any form of conspiracy within a fictional universe could only ever be considered a plot diversion?
