Futuristic beastmen/cultists
« on: January 27, 2013, 04:10:32 PM »
Hello.

I am looking for futuristic beastmen and chaos cultist types which are:
a) not overly muscle-bound
b) not holding up a big submachine gun sized "pistol" in one hand and an enormous close combat weapon in the other, in the manner of Desperate Dan holding up knife and fork ready to tuck into a cow pie.

In fact I would like to avoid the knife-and-fork pose altogether if possible.

So far the only suitable-looking thing I have found are these beastmen:
http://freeboardgamesnow.com/beastmenfullsetof5.aspx
Dont know the supplier though and they are made out of tin so no idea what they will be like in terms of mould lines etc.
I also have some nice Heresy worm-prodder/slug-botherer cultists which could be converted, maybe with shotguns or something.
Other than that I am at a loss.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

No suggestions, but I completely agree with this sentiment. You have no named that kind of pose, it shall forever be the knife-and-fork pose...

So shall it be.

Hey, I worked really hard on my cultits.

They can be converted but you have to get a little creative to make them look different from each other.

I have a tweeter thing now.  I might even use it.  @leadpaintshed if I can figure out how to

Yes, I have been admiring the Cult of Inevitable Decay, they look awesome. Not sure if i can emulate your feat though.

I would have to figure out what to do about the arm guard on the right arm, cos it doesnt look very futuristic.

Thanks, they will definately come into consideration.

Possibly filing the arm guard done to get a smooth finish may work. Or adding some putty to smooth it off?

Maxxev's blog shows what happens if you add varous SF bits to beastmen. I like the Tau stealth legs combined with beastman upper halves.

I made these out of tau troopers and kroot arms with andy's cyclops and triclops heads. If you look at previous pages you can see some regular troops with GW ungor heads which work really well.

If you're open to suggestions for minis to convert, some of our Wyrdworld minis might fit the bill:

I thought of those too but I wasn't sure how 'fantasy' he was prepared to go.

I don't really notice how 'fantasy' things are (for my own projects) because I'll pick a base model with a view to adding lots of green stuff (if required)... not everyone is able to do that.

I like the character of some of these ones though (especially the slaver).

At some point, our plan was to release post-apoc/SF versions of most of these, but that's looking a way off at the moment....

That is a shame... there is a real lack of Sci-Fi beastmen. I'd love to see some tooled up Tapirs in high-tech armour with decent weaponry... with a little uniformity in equipment (rather than rag-tag).

A new option:

This is a limited edition, but seems like Victoria is going to release a full range of them.
