Red Dwarf season ten
« on: October 04, 2012, 09:47:39 PM »
Well it's off to a good start. Nice to see them harking back to the older days instead of the recent three parter and the last 1 or 2 seasons where it just got ruined.

On Dave at 9 pm. Not classic Dwarf, but way better than the last couple of series.

Its not as good as it once was.  But as Grant and Naylor will never work together again it can never be...  It is however seemingly a welcome return to its original format (Sans kochanski), and a few of the jokes are both funny and quotable...  I was entertained and that is after all the key thing for me, and as stated, its nowhere near the 3-part special.  I am quite looking forward to see how an SFX budget will add the SF bling to the mix.

Do miss Holly mind.

...and crashed into a tree.

I F***ing loved that.  Not quite back to original form. But close enough. And it's bloody great watching an episode that I don't already know every inch of.

They looked old enough. Even Kryten looked older!

It wasn't as good as it used to be... but then again, it wasn't as bad as it used to be, either.
I think it all looked rather promising. A little laboured in places, but hopefully once the series starts to hit its stride it'll pick up. I'm looking forward to the next one.

I enjoyed it a lot - not quite classic but didn't make me want to claw my eyes out which is an improvement on season 8.

I quite enjoyed episode 1 - especially since back to earth, er, wasn't very good.  I quite like how they haven't tried to explain anything and it's all just plonked back into the classic RD setup.

Not the best Red Dwarf ever, but it felt like Red Dwarf in a way the later series didn't. It also made me laugh out loud in places, very rare.

Gald to hear it's sounding more or less like the classic setup!

Hmm, I thought it was OK (but I know you don't care about that  :D ). Certainly it's streets ahead of the last lot; just not up there with the classic stuff.

What I think they've definitely got right is the Cat. Attempts to make him a bit more useful over the last few series made the character less characterful. In the current series he's almost as vain and self-absorbed as he was back in series 1, which is much to the benefit of all, I reckon.

If you were watching carefully, in the scene where Cat, Rimmer and Kryten are frantically typing at keyboards to deal with Pree the computer, Chris Barrie is trying very, very hard not to laugh at Danny John Jules' frantic facial expression. And failing quite a lot.

Certainly it's streets ahead of the last lot; just not up there with the classic stuff.

Series 1 and 2 were the best for me. Downhill gradually from there with each successive series although I kept watching out of loyalty. Current series has had me at least smiling all the way through each episode and a few big laughs, so far, so that's a big improvement over at least the last 4 series and the cringeworthy Back To Earth special, from my POV, at least.

Can't argue with anything there. Series 1 and 2 are by far the best.
