2012 SCULPTING COMPETITION

I've just ordered five, though I don't anticipate producing anything suitable. Still, it might be fun.
I presume though that when it says you can use guns and parts of other figures, we are talking HF products only.

Am I reading this correct?
Each entrant will get a metal casting of his/hers own figure + castings of the winners?

Isn't there a specific standard to reach then?
I mean... that's like 7 metal castings in change of a free armature with a green 'blob' stuck on... (not that I think anyone would be so rude to play it that way.. but... you never know... you might have to make moulds for a lot of ... errr  (if I enter that is of course    ) ?

Suberb though!! I'll be ordering a few more armatures now (I should have waited two days longer with my order... *grin*)!

That is the beauty of this competition... it gives people the chance to do their best and get a metal copy of their own work.

It is about having a go and enjoying the competition... not about winning at all costs... 

I would suggest that if you entered 5 sculpts of your own, you would get your casts plus one set of winners.

I would hope that the judges decision would look harshly against people trying to take the mickey just to get free metal... this is a community after all (and not a den of unscrupulous cads).

Oh, wow, some pretty nice stuff there!
I had seen the category in the catalog (in my search for pretty lasses), but didn't have the slightest idea what it was about...

The best prize is always the experience, new tips and tricks and techniques you learn during competitions like these. I've never tried a sculpting competition before, but I'd like to try for sure!

Oh, and it's not only the beauty of the competition itself, but it must be the beauty of the entire community I guess! Thumbs up!

I've been very up for more DOD competitions but it's not run for the last two years, and the one I did come second in, I never got the prizes for!   

There are plenty of other comeptitions you can enter, rather than waiting for the next DOD (which I expect will be a rather long wait). We ran a Hasslefree comp over on Platoon Britannica and advertised it here and right now there is a huge Wamp competition. So get your sorry butt over there and enter a diorama! :p

Might give this a go, though I've never tried sculpting. Looks like I have to wait to order the armatures..... need to see if my kids want to have a go at this....... that would be....... interesting LOL

Been meaning to have a go at this sculpting lark - I mean how hard can it be.......? 
I have only ever used greenstuff for filling and repairs but I do have an idea for the armature so maybe I will give it a go

I read on facebook about plasticard not being allowed because it melts in the mold-making.
So that means the molds you make are in metal?
Do you know of any other epoxy's or sculpting stuff that are allowed (or not), such as Instant Putty, Sculpy, Brown Stuff, Grey stuff,  ... ?

Also, are there any limitations in size to keep it castable?
(e.g. if you would add a banner, how huge can it be? or if you give her wings, how wide can it max be?)
(Not that I plan to (try to) make a 25-components version that would need a dozen of molds in total though...).

If you use plasticard, you can go to resin first. Then use those casts to go to metal.

You can do, but I think that will increase the cost of producing the models

I'm fairly certain it's just the standard rubber mould-making process but as I recall the moulds vulcanise at high pressure and temperature.

From what I gather, the 'straight to metal' approach is the way HF will go so using plasticard, too much super glue and other stuff that can't cope with the heat/pressure of vulcanisation will not work.

Just bear in mind that this is a boutique company, with limited funds and you will soon realise that getting stuff 'double cast' is just too expensive.

I use brass wire, Green Stuff and a tiny dab of superglue and that will be OK for casting. Brown stuff, Milliput, and epoxy putties generally would be OK but that is as far as my knowledge goes.

Steam punk would probably go into Fantasy (like Warmachine). It is old school with techno-magic so fantasy sums it up better than sci-fi (like John Carter of Mars... very much more fantasy than sci-fi).

I'm more of a "its retro sci-fi" (Verne, Wells, Unhallowed Metropolis) school myself.

Still, upon re-reading at a more sensible hour and with less bleary eyes, it looks like Libertee has ok'd more than one entry into a category, so it wont clash with my other sci-fi and fantasy ideas.

Now I just have to deliver! 

Can't see it anywhere but can we enter more than one category or the same category more than once? Just checking before i place my order
