6mm grymn substitutes
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:44:10 PM »
Sssshhhhh...

Don't tell anyone I asked because this is for a secret project that may not come fruition...

As I've said a few times before, I've always wanted to be able to game 6mm battalion level games and then "zoon in" to resolve skirmishes etc in 28mm. I'd love to be able to do this with keys grymn figures...

I'm looking for 6mm sized figures that could be used as proxies for grymn. I'm NOT looking for cartoon squat proxies. Im also not too bothered about scale, so although grymn are only around 22mm in 28mm "scale" I'm not worried about using full "human sized" 6mm infantry. I'm mostly interested in figures with a similar "feel" and "tech level" to them.

I'm aware of dark realm miniatures and their pax Arcadia miniatures might be ok...
I'm also aware of exodus wars, but their guild troops are but fudge, though their humans might be ok...

Any other options?

Ps Kev, sculpt me some grymn walkers in 6mm too ? ;)

GW still sell epic stuff through their specialist games dept on the website... maybe imperial guard?

I gave up on gzg a long time ago. Such a big successful company but no pictures of so much of their stuff.

None of the Gw stuff appeals.

Not seen the other three, but had a look and there are some possibilities, but it's hard to see detail in the painted and based 6mm scale photos.

Thanks inso.

I'm still on the lookout for other stuff if anyone has ideas...

In the gaming group I used to frequent there was talk once of something like this.  We talked about a campaign that started with BFG then to epic, then to regular 40k then to necromunda style skirmishes.  It was all talk though as no one wanted to buy all the bfg and epic stuff for their selected armies.

Brandlin,  I hate to point this out but GZG arnt a "big" company,  its a one or two man band.  For what they make, with the amount of time in a day im amazed.  There are pics on the site of a goodly chunk of there stuff, but i admit some is missing.
Have you had a google for 6mm, 1:300th scale infantry?  that should bring up plenty of picks to have a choose of differnt companys stuff.

Steel penguin. I disagree, my comments on size weren't meant to be about turnover or staff volume, but more about market presence and position. They are VERY successful and well known, and frankly any business that tries to sell things you can't see is basically asking for money on faith. It's extremely poor in my view, beyond acceptable.

yes, I've googled 6mm, 1/300 and 1/285 but as I said its hard to see detail on pics of 6mm stuff so I'm looking for the personal recommendations of fellow fodders. And my google searches didn't show up all of the stuff inso linked to...

Brandlin,  i will have to agree to disagree with you regarding  that.  Possibly due to my long term custom of GZG, and the knowledge that they will generally have everything at shows, may well bias my view.
For views of various  minis though have a troll through this lot.

it may well help. ( its 18 pages long and has pics and ranges scattered through it.)
At 6mm to be honest i cant realy make out a fat lot of detail, ( he said peering myopically at  a GW eldar and a GHQ world war 2 Brit, and a GHQ modern Brit.) the easiest thing may just be to get hold of cheap ones and paint them the right scheme for what you want.... Id have thought that in 6mm you'd be more interested in the vehicles, than the PBI as they're big enough to be able to see surface detail and discern differant weapons and equipment.

I don't expect to have to go to a show to see the products. If someone wants to sell me something at least be able to show it to me. As the meerkat says "simples!"

Thanks for the link though steel penguin. I shall have a peruse...

I agree about the detail on 6mm, painting will have a big effect. I guess I'm just looking for any straightforward human, helmeted figures with sensibly proportioned weapons, no spikes bits etc.

6mm vehicles though I have a super uber hyper top secret project that might solve that :) watch this space...
