What to buy at Salute?
« on: April 17, 2012, 02:46:53 PM »
Here goes...

This is what I plan to buy at Salute...

Some of the new sci-fi soldiers from Heresy.

Some of the Grymn Walkers (if they are available).

...

Not a lot, is it?

So... knowing that I am a purely sci-fi hobbyist (with the exception of an unpainted Norman-Dwarf force) who likes 28mm stuff (although I often use 15mm within that)...

What do you suggest I buy? (because I am damned if I know!)

I'm in a similar mind TBH.

Otherworld will get a visit and I want to see what new stuff the McVey's have.  I was after the new stuff from Cavalcade (steampunk diving suits) but they aren't out til may.

From HF I'm after Hayden (sci-fi) and I've got a boris from Heresy pre-ordered but other than that I dunno.

Hopefully some kind FoD'ers will visit and show us the shiny shiny before they throw money at Andy and Sally to give us some ideas...

One or two HF and Heresey bits I'm after and then basically whatever takes my fancy - if I cant get stuff on the day I will just put an order in at a later date - certain bits from other companies I would like to see up close before purchasing anyway.

Inso, have you considered picking up some of Critical Mass Games' Kaamados? Stylistically, they'd go really nicely with your Pig Iron-headed Grymn, and their 15mm vehicles would be great for little jeeps/buggies/tunnel cars.

I really wish I could go I met Kev and Andy *very* briefly last year, and it'd be nice to say 'hey' (plus buy any new Sci-fi trooper stuff), but I'm away for the weekend. One thing in particular I'd love to get is the Forgeworld show-only Enforcer model. I think it'd go really well with the sci-fi troopers, but the prices in the secondary market are absurd :(

Still not sure if we'll make it down or not, but if we do, then I'd like to find some modular gaming tiles. Something like the GW Realm of Battle, but with less skulls and preferably 12" square sections, rather than 24".

Well, I hope you make it!

So...today, I have put leave in so that I can prep for Salute.

I need to print out rail times and a map of the underground.
Decide on practical items that I need to take or wear (like a bag, trousers with lots of pockets, MONEY, ticket (for the freebies) etc).
Look through my existing miniatures collections to see if there are singles that I need (like the remaining gangers from Andy and which sci-fi troopers I need...and which Twilight stuff I'd like).
Decide when I am leaving.
Check when I can get in (now that I have a badge).
Make an INSO badge because no one will know who Steve is...

So... a few things to do :)

I always wonder how traders and gamers manage to sort themselves out for these events because all I need to really worry about is getting there, getting in and getting home. Everything else is a bonus !

Well, I'm still hopefull we might make it. Really, it will come down to waking up tomorrow and seeing how the arthritis is. If the drugs are holding it at bay, then it's the long haul down south and (hopefully) see some of you there. I'll be the dodgy old balding goth with the girlfriend who's way younger than him!
