Sci-fi Twilight?
« on: March 20, 2012, 09:38:18 PM »
I'm just getting a new set of figure ready for sale at salute (and from Hasslefree). The dhogu are a race of mountainous fubarnii who I've done as multipart models. Probably a foolish idea to do them so multipart, but I kinda like how they've turned out.

I've been thinking they might actually work quite nicely in a sci fi setting if I could just sort them out with a sprue of gun arms...

A very neat little solution might be to 'borrow' one of kev's guns (with permission, of course), add an arm and get it cast. So, the big question on here is whether it is a good idea, and what would be the best gun for the little guys? I feel they should have long rifles, but I'm not sure there are any options in that style that would work. I'll probably do a single handed grip to begin with rather than trying to get a two-handed grip. It'll also mean the arm will fit on the yirnak rider.
I doubt I'll actually get these done for salute, but possibly we could come up with some sort of pre-order deal if I get them sculpted in time...

I'll send you a free gun-armed infantry trooper if you come up with the idea I eventually implement! :)

Oh, and here's the Yirnak rider...

YES!

Yes!

and thrice YES!

Sci-fi Twilight creatures would be excellent and LONG overdue!

As for weapons, I would suggest one of the right two weapons in this link:

Or maybe these because they look insulated:

I'd say both yes AND no.
Yes to sci-fi and guns but no to one of Kev's. Whilst awesometastic I don't think many of the HF range of guns has quite the feel of Twilight, they're too, well, human. I'd be looking along the lines of a sci-fi jezail or something like the Kroot rifle, something a bit different.

Yes definately. I'd imagine them to be armed with things like GW Kroot or Star wars sand raiders. The Yirnak rider will look ultra cool, maybe with a heavy weapons option?

That was my thoughts but Carcharoth asked for guns that were available...

I repeat all the comments above. :metoo:

YES to guns. BUT they should look like guns these critters would make, not just human guns.

Depends on what you mean by scifi

To be honest one of Twilight's endearing features is the lack of tech so making them laser wielding space dwellers wouldn't fit in my opinion, but having them slightly more advanced like the "retro-scifi" of the Quar would fit

If taht makes sense

I agree... a bit like the sand-people of Star Wars too.

That said...the Wookies have rather fancy weapons so that could be a good place to start.

It wouldn't really be sci fi twilight - just a kit for letting you turn a few twilight models a bit scifi...
If I did scifi I'd probably do something very different, not just twilight 40k.
I think I agree with the comments about guns... I wasn't sure if any of the HF guns would work. I'm a bit nervous sculpting some myself, but it might be fun to try. I think long barrelled rifles wrapped in rags would fit best.

I've had it with this forum: to much eye-candy and not enough money!!!!  :lmao:
Seriously, This sci-fi conversion sounds like a great idea and I'm sorely tempted to get my hands on some... or more than some

The fubarnii always reminded me of a race called the Timads from a Dan Dare strip in the '80s  who were warlike versions would be cool  and then rejected technology for a feudal pacifist lifestyle

Best image I could find -scifi versions would be cool

Sorry for being rubbish and quiet! I've been flat out preparing sculpts to go to the casters before salute..
I did sculpt a long rifle for the dhogu, but haven't got as far as sculpting arms to hold it. Some day I'll get them done... I'll have the rifles at salute if anybody would like a look.
