Walls & fences - new for March
« on: March 17, 2012, 09:08:48 AM »
Couple of new sets already in the new webshop, squeezed in between moulds for the Sulaco tiles....

Drystone walls - straight set

- 4 straight lengths, 4 corners, 1 cross-piece. Total length just over 0.5 metres. Straights, corners and crosses all available separately to build up larger sets. Average height 19mm.

Rickety fencing

- 5 lengths in 1.5mm thick laser-cut ply. Total length approx 1.5 metres. Average height 20mm.

Example of an enclosure knocked up combining the two sets:

And also into the shop this weekend, totally unrelated to livestock enclosures, Lost Shores Cthulhu Dais by redshadows:

Laser cutter's been busy with a bunch of stuff I've had sitting awaiting tweaks & finishing for a good while...lots of architectural details. Plenty more on the way, too...but for now, four more types of railing pus a portcullis kit:

40 x 60mm portcullises, pk.2

Modern railing 2 - 22mm chest-high modern railings

Security fencing (35mm high) plus two 25mm high Victorian railings (Canterbury & Brunswick patterns)

Canterbury railing needs a tweak for thickness and size but otherwise these are ready to go into the webshop (if I get chance before closing for the weekend!)

The fancy railings are very impressive - and all now in the webshop I noticed tonight. They look every bit as good as the etched brass model railway railings I'm more familiar with, and I'd guess a lot easier to cut, glue and probably paint. I feel an order coming on...

Like the portcullis too. Any chance of some "railings" in a similar style, as these would do rather nicely for medieval-style prison bars?

Every chance :)

All of these are thicker than etched brass variants (and are generated from old etching artwork I've had sitting on the hard drive for years and years...) - approx 1-1.5mm thick depending on style, and being cut from ply they're easy to cut, sand, and glue. They take paint well and are flexible enough to follow curved profiles (unlike laser-cut MDF which will snap if you try the same trick!)

Lots more railing/fencing designs still to be updated and released....

With all those fences/ railings available and more to come, I wonder if something like a sample pack would be a good idea.

Depends on how much styles there will be in the end, but for now I'd say yes. And a short length should be enough, after all it's just a little teaser for people to test them and to decide on which ones they'll buy.

I should sort out an order for some of them (and some of the sulaco tiles) meself but currently still stuck in indecision.

Excellent to see the "portcullis" style railings now in the webshop, and also on Facebook - and so quickly; real customer service from Fenris!

Like the new animal skull minis on the Facebook page too. Maybe add some more bones for DIY Goatkin skeletons?

Railing sample pack would have been a good idea, but I've already ordered full packs of several styles. Just so nice to have these available for 25mm/28mm instead of making-do with circa 20mm etched-brass model railway pieces and pretending they aren't really "knee-high"!

These fences, barriers and gates are fantastic. Would the technology work for sci-fi stuff? I was wondering if you could make two or three sheets that the buyer layered up in assembly to create Sulaco-styled recessed flooring?

I've got something like that planned....the downside is that they'll probably work out more expensive than the resin Sulaco tiles, just due to the sheer amount of cutting involved.....

Ah, cool beans, even if more expensive. Greater variety for modellers, and a non-resin version for anyone concerned about health stuff (or just not wanting to prep resin). Is the Sulaco range (of both/either material) likely to include doors? How about statircases/walkways?
