Grymn Walker... discussion on 'ART' and Mondrian.

I still need to add decals to the walker. Sorry about the bleached pix...I think the lighting was a bit bright :(

Did you free-hand the pattern breakers?

I don't have any masking tape/solution, nor do I have an airbrush...I painted what you see with a brush (and, to be fair, the pattern isn't tidy enough to have been properly masked anyway ;) ).

I have painted little squares before...but didn't enjoy it:

With the current walker, I have tried to use a Berlin style camouflage but with different colours.

Camo by Mondrian?

:D

Cheers :) .

Having just looked up 'Mondrian' via Google, I would say that there are a bucket-load of dazzle-camo options there! This camo was based on Berlin Camo though (just using different colours).

I guess people who think it is artistic to paint different sized squares in different colours, using a paint roller, doesn't float my boat... I've seen his work in the Tate Modern but never registered the name. 120,000-00 for a 6 by 8 foot canvas that could have been painted by a child... doesn't make you talented... it just makes you lucky.

I like pictures but I don't generally take any notice of who painted them... most of the decent artists are dead anyway.

...I also have trouble remembering MY name half the time ;).

It's all about creating the right image or cultivating the right mystique. Remember, "high art" is a world were a woman half-inflates a trash bag, puts it on the floor, names it "Rubbish Bag" and gets 40,000 GBP for it. Or a guy finds an old discarded urinal, turns it on its side, and suddenly it's priceless- to the point of actual REPLICAS being commissioned of the original "artist." Oh, and one guy took a dump in a bunch of cans, sealed them, and sold 'em. The most recent to change hands went for 80,000 USD.

Art is all about making people believe you know something they don't. Use a bunch of buzzwords, act really weird, do totally random crap: it's all in how you present it, and you'll make a bloody fortune.

I can both act really weird and take a dump in the can. I'm on my way to fame and fortune.  :woohoo: :woohoo:

Art - don't understand it? Attack it - easy!

If that statement holds true EVERY form of art should be attacked because I defy anyone to come out and say that they understand art. Half the time, the creator will just say 'it sprang to mind so I sculpted/painted/stitched it etc...'

Art isn't there to be understood... it is just there for people to have an opinion on.

Half the time, I don't know whether I like certain bits of art or not. The Mondrian stuff would make great dazzle-pattern camouflage or even (with tones down colours) urban camouflage... but I wouldn't have it on my wall at home or discuss how much it made me think of summer time etc. As a piece of art, I don't understand it and can't understand why anyone would pay such a huge price for it...but that is art for you. You are supposed to attack it because most striking pieces of art have been created to challenge us...

...alternatively the artist just had an idea float into his head and painted it without any thought of whether it was art or not... they just wanted to re-create their idea.

You shouldn't ever have to explain why you like an object of art... sometimes you couldn't anyway... sometimes you just like something... other times it just doesn't resonate with you at all.
