On a different note, I have a bunch of snipers sitting around, waiting for some targets and was thinking of having a reconnaissance platoon to add to the army.

Keeping to the platoon ethic that I have been ticking along with, I was thinking of having a command section and three recon sections. Instead of having eight troops per recon section, I was thinking of just having 4. This is what I was thinking:

HQ:
Lieutenant - I/C - SMG
Sgt - 2I/C - SMG
Cpl - Comms - SMG
Gunner - SMG

3x Recon Section:
Sgt - I/C - SMG
Cpl - 2 I/C - SMG
Gunner - Sniper Rifle
Gunner - Sniper Rifle

I may replace the spare bod in the HQ with a sniper... but the problem is...do I go for armoured transport (like a scimitar), a light armoured vehicle (Like a Daimler Dingo) or a very lightly armoured vehicle (like the new coyote or open topped Land Rover)? Obviously I will be using sci-fi equivalents but you get the idea.

I was thinking of the middle option but am open to ideas.

The only things I won't consider are airborne or grav vehicles (my assault ships cover that side of things :) ).

In addition, I was thinking of adding a bike to each of the sections (so 4 in all)... haven't got as far as working out how the hell I'm going to get some Grymn bikes...but I'll find something :).

I may go the  light/fast buggy route...

because I am not sure whether an armoured vehicle suits the 'feel' of a sniper-recon platoon. For a standard recon Platoon, I'd probably go for light tanks...but I'm just not sure at the moment...Hmmm.

...I've found some bikes though !

With regard to the stripes, I paint them all on, wash the entire tank in Devlan Mud wash and then repaint the thing with watery paint to have a worn look...I don't go all the way to the edge of the washed areas so there will be a dark line on the edges.

The APCs are Glaives with additional mini-turrets (from the turret/equipment section of Old Crow). Definitely worth a punt :). That sort of info is on the 'Grymn out there' blog (just click the tag 'New Model Army' and there are links in the posts).

Seeing as I have posted this elsewhere, I thought it was appropriate for me to put it here...the new Grymn Walker and pilots in various states of dress:

The first of a Squadron of 14 (when they get released).

Now that I have added decals to everything, I'll be sorting out a photo soon... but everything will be shiny because i have a lack of matt varnish at the moment.

There is info over at Inso's World about all the decals but to cut a long story short, I have applied all the decals to the troops and vehicles but still need to add rank to the troops. There is a slight change to the positioning of the helmet markings but I think it looks better and matches the vehicles more appropriately as well.

I am thinking of how I will mark the ranks but I am close to deciding...it will be red for NCOs and Yellow for Officers and will be a mix of straight lines and dots...

...I may also add registration plates to the vehicles at a later date as well.

...So I now have a gloss varnished platoon that is in need of a few ranks and possibly some vehicle registration plates.

...and I'll take some pix later (tonight).

...and I wasn't rubbing in the fact that I have a walker...just that I want more :).

Different regiment.

Also a different branch of the armed forces... they have pilots and are operated by the Grymn Air Force :), not the Army.

So...another day and another update.  Here is an example of the rank I have applied to my troops:

(Yellow = Officer and Red = NCO). It is simple to understand and easy to paint...BARGAIN! :) .

And what could be a better way of starting a week's holiday with a new platoon?:

I spent most of yesterday cleaning, basing and undercoating these ready to repeat the process...

...I haven't touched the transports yet and won't do so until these troops are the same standard as the last platoon (PAINT wise...no decals just glossed ready for them).

I tried to find a spray matt varnish in town yesterday but failed miserably so the tanks will have to stay shiny for the time being. The troops will be getting a brushed on coat of matt varnish so they will have all of their nooks and crannies dulled down this week...

SUPER !

I spent yesterday evening re-basing all of my airborne assault troops and have got to put the sand on today. I am looking at them and am trying to work out how I am going to mark them up to bring them into line with the rest of the army...

They are differently painted but need to have a link... they have different helmets (the close combat ones) so I will have to put my thinking hat on.

Hmmm.

I'm thinking of digging out the drop-ships to finish converting them (not painting yet) but I don't want to overdo things.

Decisions, decisions...

Well... having a week's holiday has got things moving somewhat...

My old Urban troops are now my newly marked up addition to the New Model Army. They have decals and different bases to tie them in with the rest of the troops:

I have also dug out the transports and have been diligently ripping them to bits and putting them back together... here they are so far (with just a tiny amount of tidying up left to do):

I'll sort the tidying up out later on and then it will be on to the paint.

This platoon and it's transports would be the Grymn equivalent of the RAF Regiment so I will be updating a few of my marking/insignia pics to bring everything back into line.
