I think both the Jackal and Coyote might be useful its about time more stuff was done in 1/48th i just wish they realize that the true market is in 28 mm

The following is my take on this subject, and is not supposed to be the definitive answer

So for a six foot man;

1/43.5 = O gauge (RR) = 42mm

1/48 = 38mm = Lego minifigs??????

1/56 = 32mm

1/64 = S Gauge (RR) = 28mm

1/72 = 25mm

1/76 = OO gauge (RR) = 24mm

1/87 = HO gauge = 20mm

.....but that is from floor to top of head, and most wargames figures are to the eyes, and then some are now heroic scale 28mm (ie 32mm?)

Yes, we are all now confused, but for some reason 1/56th sticks in my mind as a good average, so 1/48th is slightly larger

I have used 1/48th vehicles for conversions (actually have a Hobby Boss KV-2 for Orks in (very slow) progress), and I believe that Kev and Inso have used Academy Merkavas and Kitech/Zhengdefu Bradleys for similar

the old cheiftain range was 1:56, ( also sloppy jallopy and bolt action).  a 28mm fig on a base will look tall compared to the vehicle unless the vehicle is based.
the HLBS modern range is 1:48  and modern 28s ( read larger) on bases look fine next to them, but will look small next to a based 1:48 fig or 1:48 vehicle.
1:43 look massive  next to most figs,  based or not ( from using an airfix land rover next to mongrel, blacktree, and gripping beast 80s brits)
a lot of this is due to many people seing vehicles as being larger than they are.
with a lot of them though, if you use 1 scale for each vehicle ( or better 1 scale and make for all) it wont stand out too much to the eye, but 2 vehicles from differnt sources will pull the eye to the wrongness if the size differance if more than a few mm

It's not as simple as that.

There have been tomes written on this subject detailing issues about heft, proportion head size as a ratio of figure height. For the best articles I've seen on this check out the legendary Tom meier's blog, or some of the near legendary kegs rants on old god threads.

Suffice to say my personal opinion is that 1/48 goes pretty well with 25-28 mm figures. Heroic stuff is too big.

DRAGON have a look at the 28mm vs scale (Futuristic cars ?) thread in Q and A i posted some pics on there of different scale vehicles with 25mm and 28mm figs think its page 2 the Bradly M,I,F,V, is 1/48th and personally i think it close enough and to quote Steel penguin they will be mine hope this helps .

The Merlin is gorgeous...might have to buy one of those just to put my decal on it :



...I painted that duck on there ! (I bought a set of decals with the design on too).

The rest is great too, especially the Coyote

Oh bugger there's so much there that i NEED, no want, NO NEED!!! MUST HAVE come to me my loverlys    , must resist i haven't finished DWs apc yet !!! INSO love the duck your design  or someones operational duck squashing symbol hope that was a combat bird and not an R,S,P,B, Helo

The nose was damaged by a bird strike and a temporary repair was done by the USAF for us. I was asked to paint something on the front so I painted that . My design but it needed to be a duck .

It was merely a representative for the size of the hole that was made in the panel .
