Future Enemy for the Troopers
« on: December 07, 2011, 12:37:36 PM »
I'm running this on Facebook too but since a lot of the FOD are Luddite when it comes to the whole social network thing I'll ask it on here as well!

I'll be expanding the Troopers over the next few years - more units, squad types, heavy weapons, vehicles, etc, etc but which Enemy force should be developed to go against them in the eventual wargame (Tentatively thought of as being called Us Vs Them at the moment but could be more poetic by the time anything gets written)?

Machine Intelligence is crushing the choices at the moment on FB.

Not entirely sure what a feebloid is, but the mention of mutant hordes won me straight away. But meh, robots are good too.

Feebloids are your classic Greys - their hordes of mutant monsters are essentially similar to the old X-Com games - so lobstermen, mutons etc

I was going to vote feebloids (I didn't know what they were, just liked the name) until I read that post and changed my mind to Machine

Proper machines, by the way, not ones wearing egyptian clothing or piloting ferries because the ferry can't do it itself. All the machines in the army will be self aware and intelligent, some more so than others but all utterly implacable and dedicated to the purpose of wiping out the organic lifestain that threatens the logical order of the universe.

Perhaps you could do beastmen styled alternate head options? I'd buy into something like that...

Doubly glad I voted for them, then. Greys, Orange Snakemen, Funny White Disc Things, Black Mind Controlling Chrysalids. AWESOME

As the proud owner of a platoon of the sci-fi troops, I voted for the machines* because they offer the greatest range of shapes and sizes, so hopefully that'll appeal to Andy's love of the one-off :)
They'd also make a great visual contrast to the organic/cloth look of the humans.

+++Edit+++ What happened to the Not-'Stealers that popped up a few years back? They'd be a great alternative... :)

*Heh, just noticed that would make [THE.M]achines. Awesome! One vote for US vs THEM  muahahahaha

Could have the US mean something too..

Loving US vs [THE.M.]!

Vermissians still kicking about, but evolving the idea more towards a play on Scientology, Celebrity Fad-cults, The Bodysnatchers and the Thing, and away from Genestealers.

Going to need some 3d designers to do these Machines, by the look of it. Lot of precise mechanical stuff involved. Have to give that Thanos/Thanatos lad a poke, wherever he went to.. (Can't remember which username he was)

Machines are fine, but anything that increases the variety of aliens available is a winner.  Especially if the aliens are LOBSTERMEN.

Feebloids all the way.

I'd love to see the feebloids in a sorta organic-tech exosuit or powered armour. That would be very, very good - I'd certainly buy 'em!
