Superhero Projects.
« on: September 28, 2011, 02:48:28 PM »
I've decided to put together a small superhero team for my Grymn.  Obviously, there are very few miniatures out there to use for this purpose so I am having to start from scratch.  Here's where I was at a few days ago:

She is nearly finished now...just hands and wrists to go.

I plan to have Nick Fury, Black Widow, Hurricane, Juggernaut, Iron Man and the Beast in the team and am getting the two girls sculpted first.

When I have finished the first one, it will be the second ever female that I have sculpted...and the first one was this:

...and she was an OGrymn...so please be gentle when I show my new sculpt off :)

Looks good Inso.

There is definietly a talent there. I think that if you sculpted regularly, then you woul dsoon be quite happily selling your stuff.

The arms are going to have to come off and get shortened...but apart from that...here is the first one before I gear up to rip her arms off :( ...and a WIP of the second one:

I couldn't look at her any more...so I ripped her arms off ...

...Even with just the wire shortened, she looks much more in proportion so I am glad I made the decision (I may have left her as she was but it would have been a mistake).

I have just covered the shortened wire at the moment so I will need to get sculpting again...not to worry...only about three hours of wasted time :(.

Wrong. Those are three hours of honing your sculpting skills.

When you do the new arms, please be careful with the size of the hands. Those first ones were too big. That may look fine in a male brute, but not in a sexy female.

The profile shot (bottom right) looks a little like the Marvel Apes version of Black Widow.  Stunty size doesn't help that, I'm sure.

Which Hurricane?  Albert Potter?

In every form of art, deleting and redoing better is part of the process, not wasted time.

I know it is all experience but it can get a bit frustrating when you go to far with something that you know isn't quite right while you try to correct it as you go...

...on the plus side, the new arms are looking much better proportioned so I am a bit happier about the sculpt now.

The other WIP is looking quite nice as well...so I am feeling quite positive about things again :).

This Hurricane, by the way:

Just Grymn sized and a bit more chunky :)

While we are on the subject, this Juggernaut is perfect for the job:

This Hurricane, by the way:

Ah, the Ultimate Universe version.  I suppose going for the Captain Britain character was a bit of a stereotype.

the re-sculpt looks awesome!  Now get to work on some generic heroes with regular human proportions and get them cast up....

My little ones will get done before I contemplate larger ones...

...and I wanted a female speedster and Hurricane was the only one that got suggested.

Don't mind me, I'm just a GM with a Superhero game starved for good (generic) figures.  So many of the Reaper and almost all of the Pulp City ones "suggest" (if not scream) for a particular theme/gimmick.  Certainly useful at times, but hindering at others.

I look forward to seeing more of your tiny dynamos in the meantime!

Pretty good!
A quibble: I think she needs a bit broader back and shoulders to support those arms though.

She looks good painted up! :applause: :applause:

But how can you get her cast up so I can buy one if she's painted already? :scratchhead:

The pose was never castable...and I would never have wanted such a low quality sculpt cast up any way.

I know I can do better and spend a bit more time doing it.  Knowing that, I wouldn't have been happy getting it cast because it wouldn't be fair to the punters.

It is also a Grymn superhero and I would need permission from Kev and if it was in the HF line, I would be embarrassed at it's quality (to be honest).

Miniatures that I have had cast before, look a bit amateur compared to other ones...and I spent a lot of time on those.

Ah, well. It's way better than I could do. It's better than many 'professional' casters out there sell.  :yup:

Still, maybe it'll put Kev into a UR DOING IT WRONG rage, and he'll start sculpting Grymn supers. That way we'd all be winners! :lmao: :lmao
