Fenris Bases.
« on: October 11, 2009, 01:45:54 PM »
I have just ordered a load of 'chamfered edged' bases from Fenris Games.

Has anyone here bought them before and if so, do you have any pix with miniatures mounted on them so that I can see what they look like?

They look good on the site but it is difficult to see what the edges look like.

Cheers!

I dont have any of those Inso. I tend to make my bases.

However I have ordered a load of stuff from fenris in the past - including resin scenics and plywood bases and everything i have has has been SUPERB - i promote him wherever i can (in the hope of free stuff but hell, at least i promote him!)

I do have a couple of sample bases he sent me free along with some other orders, and they are crisp. A simple rub of the base on som 120 grit sand paper and away you go.

you do know that Fenris is run by Geronimo here on FoD dont you He's always prompt at answering PM's when i've had questions.

They're a standard chamfered edge as per a GW slotta. Up until now all our ranges have been on the bullnose/DS profile bases made popular by Warmachine as these seemed to sell far better than our older designs on GW-style bases.

However we had a lot of requests for chamfered edge following the release of a certain boardgame involving a last desperate fight for yada yada yada, so I remastered the Sulaco and other bases to suit.

And in future always make sure you mention your FOD Id when ordering, it means extra freebies!

Brandlin, promotion always noted and appreciated

Cheers Geronimo, I ordered a bunch of Sulaco bases and was hoping that they were as you have described...so I won't be disappointed .

I received a nice parcel yesterday.  It was full of resin bases and had a couple of extra base samples in there for good measure.

I will put up a few pix and things on my blog for the Sunday update because I really like the Sulaco bases.  They are very nicely cast and after seeing people use resin bases for so long, I can't for the life of me, understand why I haven't used them before.

Now I have the fun of removing a bunch of minis from thier slotta bases without damaging the paint...should be entertaining .

I've got my entire eldar army I've been wanting to do that to since I've used their scifi bases.  I just can't decide which style of bases to use for my eldar!  Let us know how the rebaseing goes and any tips or tricks you learn in the process.  I look forward to seeing the pictures.

I won't be doing the re-basing just yet but I will be putting up pix of the bases themselves on the Blog on Sunday.  As soon as I get around to re-basing a few minis, they will get the WIP treatment and will be shown off.

When I normally base miniatures I super glue them into their slots in the base and then fill the gaps with green stuff.  I then PVA gue on sand and paint them.

The best way I have found of removing the minis from the slotta-bases is to snap the bases off along the line of the tab and then cleaning off the green stuff.

To base them on resin bases, I will be snipping of the tab, filing the feet flat, drilling a pin hole into the base of the feet (and also drilling a hole in the resin base) and then super-gluing them to the resin base with a pin to hold it.  If I have any problems with lining up pins, I'll just pin one foot and glue the other one down without a pin...it should be OK ;).  If I have problems with getting a flat area on the base, I'll just blob a bit of Green-Stuff in and make a flat surface.

I really would recommend these resin bases as they are very spiffy .

Fenris games is one of my favourite suppliers but oddly i don't use resin bases (except for their plain oversized ones).

For armies i use slotta bases with a little putty and sand texture added, and for display i craft a base that is exactly as i want it.  I do keep looking at resin bases and thinking - "oooo they look good" but then i realise that i'd not use them :(

A small update on the bases front.  I have prepped 12 of the 25mm bases and WILL be putting up a bit of a review on my blog later today.  All I will say at the moment is that they are well worth the money and I would recommend them.

I'll also say that the pictures on the website need to be clearer as they don't show off the sides of the bases very well...leading to a slight amount of confusion on my part...but you'll get the rest on my blog later .
