Oh, I'm with you on this. A few years ago I was in hospital with a potentially fatal blood disorder. My platelet count had dropped to an appallingly low level. One analysis gave a platelet count of '1', while a second test gave a result of '0'. I joked that this was because they'd taken my one platelet out to count and hadn't put it back, so of course the count was zero. The nurse told me that 'that kind of attitude didn't help anyone'! Me, I think laughing about it is certainly better than moping, and I was in an emergency unit in a big modern hospital and doing exactly what I was told. What more could I do?   :D

You can either laugh or cry. Laughing feels better.

What a horrible attitude she had.

Medical staff seem to hate it when patients express a sense of humour.  I've never really understood that - I'd have thought they would want to encourage a positive attitude.

I think she was a one-off. I regularly visit the same hospital for rheumatoid arthritis treatment. The nurse practitioner team I see are three absolutely wonderful women with cracking senses of humour. There have been times when I'm plugged into a drip for an eight-hour treatment and I've been almost helpless with laughter at their banter and 'sniping'* at each other.

Today I ordered what I hope to be the last of the parts I need to get my scooter back on the road.  Cleaned the carb today, didn't need it though.  Checked, cleaned and measured a few other things.  Hopefully, end of this coming week it will be ride time again.

Salute tickets have arrived. Looks like we could we be making the great trip down south this year. We'll be the dodgy old goth and the pretty young woman, followed by the bloke who looks like a bouncer.

It's been a while since I've posted. But I thought yourselves would appreciate this, and it's brightened up the workplace a bit.

The Darth Vader/Ukraine thing:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-news-from-elsewhere-26882664

Has spawned not just my favourite moment of the last superhero RPG session I played (the journalistic scoop of the year: "Your critics describe you as 'more machine now than man, twisted and evil'. Mr Vader, what is your response to these allegations?").

But also a running joke at work. When we were talking about the crisis in Crimea to one of the youngsters at work who didn't really understand what was going on, I used the example of me annexing 1/3 of the desk of the chap who sits next to me.

After seeing the Darth Vader thing, he was joking about me invading it with stormtroopers.

So yesterday, I hid a Star Wars Miniatures rebel trooper behind his monitor and put a scout trooper on my desk. He finally noticed the scout trooper just before lunchtime. But he hasn't found the rebel yet.

I took "security photos" using my phone of the rebel trooper, and of a Princess Leia miniature on his desk.

Today, I replaced the scout trooper with a normal stormtrooper (and, yes, both him and our MD - who noticed it when he came over to talk about a report - were geeky enough to spot the difference). Gradually, throughout the day, the number of stormtroopers has increased. Every time he's left his desk for a while, I've added another stormtrooper to the squad. There are 6 of them there now.

Tomorrow, they're going to capture a "notorious rebel spy" for interrogation.

And on Thursday, when he gets to work, he'll find that part of his desk has been occupied by a dozen stormtroopers supported by an AT-ST. It's the only way they can keep the galaxy safe against these rebel spies and terrorists which he has been (as he will find when I show him the "security footage" and he looks behind his monitor) harbouring on his desk.

It's the only course of action that makes any sense.
