Thanks. I know I'm really lucky to have landed this job. It's been three years now, and I'm still happy to be there, and they seem happy to have me.

Now that is good news :) . It seems to be a rare thing at the moment for any sort of good news from the employment sector. Promotion too? Awesome !

Buying my son his first electric guitar and whilst in the shop watching my 10 year old prodigy sit and strum to try it out.

The first few bars of smoke on the water never sounded so good.

I got some gardening done, mowed the lawn for the second time in a week, burned some rose bush cuttings AND got primer on 27 more tunnel guardsmen with my new Iwata Revolution CR airbrush.  A rather good day for the most part.  Oh yeah, I eated some chocolate too. 8)

And now deciding that I'll put my woodworking skills to the test and build him one and seeing the smile on his face "really dad?"

Yes son.

Cool. Can I have a purple on with flames on it?

Yup, you draw it, I'll make it...

And off he scurries with paper and pen.

Almost makes up for him being down in the dumps because he doesn't get to come and man a salute stand with me this year!

Got my HF order today.  Hayden B is even better in the flesh,.  Thanks for the sweets and the free bag of steampunk parts!  I needed more but decided not to get them this time, then I thought I had ordered them.  Now I think I've got enough for my project.

Thanks Sally and crew, you made my day better!

Yep...DAMNED cool!

Just make sure that it is suitably reinforced so that when he swings it at things, it'll take the impact (I'd have wanted an axe shaped one myself...with a real blade :) ).

Aww thank you guys

Given I often work away Monday to Friday, and abroad too, I try to make the weekends serious son time. It's why not building a stand for salute this year has pissed me off so much. I like making stuff so for us to do it together is doubly cool.

Now I'm NOT saying that this will be quick, I'm also not guaranteeing that it'll play well, but it will be an heirloom. Full of memories.

Note: since posting the first message I've read the idiots guide to electric guitar building and apparently this is somewhat more complicated than nailing a floorboard to a fruit and veg crate... Wish me a luck.

You can get the bodies very easily and customise from there with carving/paintjob etc.

Thanks gi6ers, I saw a few sites doing that, but I'd prefer to machine the body myself, I suspect I might have to buy a prepared neck neck though :(
But finishing it should be fun...

Today, I am happy that I did not lose my left thumb at work.  Had I been wearing gloves (which technically I should have)it would have gotten caught and I would not have been able to pull away from the bench grinder, which would have then pulled my entire hand in.  I will quite gladly take not having any skin on part of my knuckle over possibly losing my thumb entirely or even use of it.

I got lucky today.  Knock on wood.

...Bench grinders are a 'bit...ch'. I am lucky that I don't have to use them very often but I am always a little extra careful when I do. I once saw someone get mesmerised by one and before we  realised it, there was blood up the wall. He'd got half way down his thumb-nail before the instructor pulled him away from the machine.

Lucky break! It could have been so much worse (I guess you've see the safety films  ).

Today, I am happy because...

It is SALUTE!

Yep and seen people sand their finger tips off on stationary sanding machines.  Also I watched as my boss wheeled a woodstove into a trailer on a heavy electric dolly.  He ended up losing his/the dolly's balance and it pulled him down/forward and took the tip of his middle finger off when it hit the ground.

PS:  Enjoy Salute

Just found this, and it made me laugh.

In Gareth's memory.

Maybe some of us have more DNA in common?
