Zoo

I was off at the Belfast Zoo, Saturday before last. Looked at likkle baby meerkats rolling and playing (right beside the giraffes, which were doing a stately circuit of their enclosure and being soundly ignored by most); of the 'invisible' animals (tigers, hunting dogs, fossas, and a lot more) I managed to see the maned wolf and listen to it makes some fairly odd calls; had a look at
some dinosaurs meself
; and various other weird and wacky animals.
Highlight was the lions, though. I walked up and looked at them, lying in a bunch under the shade of a tree. One lioness was a short distance from the others, and looking at me a bit more intently. I remembered a bit I heard about a turned back being irresistable to lions, and did just that. After a few seconds I turned back. She was still lying down but turned towards me, and a couple of feet closer. I turned away again. Just as I was turning back to face her again, I heard a rustle of leaves and a twanging at the fence. There was a lion a scant two feet away, looking a
lot bigger close up, giving me a pretty dirty look.
It got the old adrenaline pumping, I can tell you.
