A bank is a place where they lend you an umbrella in fair weather & ask for it back when it starts to rain.

most mornings i wake up grumpy.   sometimes i just let him sleep.

my life consists of brief snatched moments of living my life hidden deep among chaos, confusion& the  going crazy, every night i go to sleep filled with hope & enthusiasm for the new day coming.  then i wake up & think "here I go again" & just aim to survive.

I am home later today, I have no suntan (apart from my forehead) and that picture was definitely from a time long forgotten...1989, not long after I joined up :) .

I am currently sat in Nairobi airport.  It is 03:30 local and I have been awake since 06:30 yesterday morning...top quality, military, milling about!  But I'm not bitter...I'm on the way home !

It is always slightly wierd when I get home...there is always a period of adjustment from all of us.  I have to get used to living at home and not amongst a group of blokes in 'rustic' accomodation.  The children have to get used to the power shift and my missus just has to get used to the lunatic living back at home :).

Well...I am back !

I eventually got into my house at about 16:00hrs today.  A hot soak in the tub and a few cups of PG Tips tea and I am as right as rain again :) .

I have just spent half an hour or so re-sorting out some Grymn platoons...I now need a few more specialists :)...

Yep...plenty to be happy about :D

Sitting in the garden from 08:15 in the evening, with my five year old daughter, waiting hopefully to see some bats. Then at 8:30 (dusk), to my daughter's delight, three bats fly about for five minutes!
I really like this jacket...

I can only imagine the look on my son's face (he's four and a half) if we could do that...that's very cool.
Few things are as pleasing as the look of unadulterated innocent joy and wonder in a very small child. Before they're old enough to develop the cynical view of the world that we suffer as working stiff adults.

I wonder if trying to recapture that is our reason for having kids?

Incidentally - I am glad to see I am not the only one who uses the word "Pootling".

today a little of my faith in humanity was restored, as the hashtag #donaldtrumpisabellend trended worldwide on Twitter.
