Being home after a good tradeshow.
In the war-torn darkness of the future, there is only Grymn.

Deep Space Nine: Officially not as good as Stargate.

If you field an overwhelming force against a paltry number of defenders, whatever you do, make sure the defenders are not English!

Oh we got the tea down pat; the problem is you guys don't know what to do with ale and beer.  Warm indeed.....
The warmth helps all the volatile compounds in the beer to vapourise, so you get all the lovely aromas as you drink, which is what gives the majority of the flavour to anything, not what hits your tastebuds.

And there are some good american beers (if I could find somewhere in the UK that sells Yeungling to go, I'd be a very happy man indeed) - it's really the three mass produced extracts of the contents of gnat's kidneys (Budweiser, Miller and Coors) that give it a bad name.

Thanksgiving Day.  Turkey and all the trimmings; kids now old enough to entertain themselves.  Happy Turkey Day to all my fellow former Colonists!!!

Still colonists. We'll be back!  :yup:

Sorry about that whole war for Independence thing.   :lmao:
At least tell us you've figured out how to make tea.
Boiling water, d'you see? Not a harbour, and not all the tea you can lay your scruffy mitts on.

Lager is served cold. Ale, on the other hand, should be at or slightly below, ambient temperature. And don't get me started on that monstrosity you folks call 'whiskey'.

I don't care where I am (whether UK, US or various areas elsewhere), I like my beer warm and my lager cold (but not ice cold), my Guinness plentiful and no spirits...they are the devils work (and they make me do things beyond my control ;) ).

All this UK/US squabbling is irrelevant...people like what they like no matter where they are.

One thing that is really great is a Cafe Mocha from a Green Bean coffee shop.  I'm a Brit but I will back up our US cousins and say that there ain't much better coffee in the world than what you'll find at a Green Bean coffee shop.

Also well done to the teetotal crowd.  I take it that it was a tough choice (due to addiction?) and if that is the case, I can commend you for it  :notworthy:.

I know what drink dependency is like...and it isn't fun...but I am able to take it steady now so I can still enjoy a tipple every now and again (and to be honest, I wouldn't want to give up because I enjoy a drink).

EVERYONE is worthy of higher education.  It is merely a case of applying yourself to the task in hand.  Well done for taking the leap .

This makes me happy:

So does this:

And this one too:

I 'd challenge ANYONE nnot to feel just a little bit happier after watching these three.  Sometimes You-Tube demonstrates what is really simple, yet wonderful with clips like these .

@Inso. My teetotalism came about due to the medication I was put on. I was told not to drink alcohol whilst taking some of the tablets I need by my doctor. I was never a big drinker in the first place but I did enjoy a night out at the local with my mates. It was not a hard decision to stop and I don't miss alcohol at all. Now when I go to a pub it just seems normal to ask for a fruit juice and my friends understand. I do understand that for some it would take a great deal of willpower to stop. Anyone who is in that boat and has succeeded have my admiration.

That's cool ...replying to the original post about teetotalism was always going to be a gamble because there are many reasons for doing it...and a lot of them are negative (often VERY negative)...I'm glad I managed to post something about the subject without offending people :)

I actually think that (even in boozy Britain) there is almost total acceptance of non-drinkers going out to the pub with mates to have a good time now.  A few years ago, teetotallers would have been badgered constantly to have a drink but now it seems that the common sense approach has won through (who the hell are anybody to give you grief on a simple, personal choice?).  On the bright side...A teetotaller can have his/her fruit/soft drinks paid for all niight, just by agreeing to be duty driver...and they are not upset about keeping off the booze.  That's win-win (unless it happens TOO OFTEN ;) ).

This is going hear though it should be cut and pasted on this threads evil twin sister ( things that p*** you off) as well.
Just finished watching the BBC4 mars night program on " how to get to mars by A-bomb, " a history of project Orion.  Watching it makes me proud of the inventivness of the scientists, and people involved, both in the hard science and the inventivness of the enginerring.  And in the responsibility of them to turn away from it, when it became nessicary due to the fall out issues.  But id still love to see one lift off.  And the fact that the project has been let die is the reason for the first commit.  If we do not strive we will fall.

Is that where multiple nuclear explosions are focused through a 'jet nozzle' (I'm keeping it very simple)?  If it is, it is a clever idea but I can see why it was given up as a bad job.  Containing and controlling the power created by a nuclear explosion would be quite random (with the slightest of variations in the quality of radioactive material making a huge difference in the power output)...I don't think people would be happy sitting on top of nuclear bombs going off over and over again...all at different power.  Think of the different inertia that would generate.  All of the passengers would be sick!

It is a great idea though (a bit like a super-high-powered pulse jet) and imagination is the root of invention.

Maybe something less random and more predictable would work...dare I say 'artificially created nuclear material'?
