Good to hear Inso.  I get a week off work due to my knee.  The only issue is I have to go to great length to get it paid for.

Posting something after many months. But I fear this will be a lonely moment...

If we all post something, it will be less lonely.

What's making me happy today? I got a copy of the first RPG that I ever played - Tunnels & Trolls. Reading through it has provoked a powerful attack of happy nostalgia.

There I was in 1982, 10 years old, and one of my school friends told me all about this new game she had that was like a board game but without a board and that you "just make stuff up". It sounded... weird.

So I made up Harald the Rogue. He had a kukri, a floppy hat, a Take That You Fiend! spell and a taste for adventure. Sadly, he was killed and eaten by an orc after about 20 minutes. So poor old Harald never exactly became a living legend and he never had the time to acquire much of a personality. It was a nice hat, though, and I'm sure the orc was thrilled with it.

But the game was exciting enough for me to save up my pocket money for weeks so I could get my own copy of T&T. And Elaine told me that next time we'd get to fight skeletons just like in 'Jason & The Argonauts'. I was hooked!

My mum and dad weren't too happy when I pinched the dice from all the board games in the house, mind you. But that was a small price to pay, I think. :)

Sorry?
I think he means he's so busy/ has so little time, that finally posting something will just be an one-off event (a "singular moment" so to say).

My first RPG too, back in about 1977.  :D Did you know about Deluxe T&T, the definitive edition, being published later this year? I'm afraid I've pledged heavily for the Kickstarter for it, but some of the higher end rewards were just too cool to ignore. I can't wait for it to get published (very sadly it's been delayed due to Liz Danforth being very ill).

Apologies. Mine was a rushed comment. Thanks for the clarifications.

I backed the kickstarter, too. :) Not very heavily, though, as the timing was bad. I was just about to move house and didn't have much cash lying around spare at the time.

Once it arrives, I am going to twist people's arms until they play it with me.

I was a batlel hardened Ad&D and traveller player in 1982 which is probably around the time i got into tunnels and trolls. I must admit that as a confirmed dwarf player even by then i was seduced by the Greate Bearded axe wielding beserker dwarf with strength 26 and con 36... ohh i remember rolling a dozen d6 for evey attack :)  silly stuff but fun.

I must play drunk one day.

I wonderd back into the office I work in to day after my morning coffee break,  to find all of my co-workers singing happy birthday to me, and to find that they had had a whip round and got me a penguin shaped birthday cake, a Penguin head hat, and a hobbycraft  voucher.  I was utterly speechless and once recovered thanked them all profusely.  It was totally unexpected, and very touching.
