Some of my friends bought me the dragon for my birthday a few months back. Best present ever! My poor boyfriend has to put up with me talking about it at least once a week, and I doubt the enthusiasm's going to die down for another few years. I love it so much.

Saw the dragon at Derby yesterday, how to describe??
the best idea i have is
right pretend you a typical 5 year old.  got the mindset? right, now spread your arms wide and wiggle your middle fingers. and go in a slightly disbeliving/mad/giggling voice  " it was this big!!" wile rolling your eyes

its massive! and its massivly impresive, and wile i want one, my wife wants one as well, in purple!
keep at it Andy its a cracker
a happy dauber

Same as me then, i'd rather pay Andy what it's worth, rather than feel like i'm taking advantage and ripping him off.

I'm not sure I'd agree that people who chose to pay in advance are somehow ripping Andy off.

I don't think he meant to imply that, it's just that he, rather humblingly, feels like he personally would feel guilty aboutnot paying the eventual full proper price rather than the current arbitrary one.

FYI The eventual price is probably going to be at least 150-200

@Tasker - I know what you mean, but at the same time I don't think Andy would have put 100 quid as a pre order price tag if he thought it was ripping himself off.

It's an incentive to pre order which in turn gives Andy cash in advance which is more useful that promises of a buy later that might not happen.

Works both ways.

At the time Andy might not have thought that it would be too bad as I don't imagine that he envisioned the thing turning out to be so big ( though I could be and probably am totally wrong on that ), but looking at the size of the blooming thing now and how much other resin kits go for, there must be one hell of a mark up on other resin kits for this one to go for 100 and make a profit.

Mind you though, having said that, I now wonder if the Dragon would need the same quality resin as smaller figures?   :scratchhead:

At the end of the day though... ( It goes dark?  :silly ) ... If Andy feels that by my pre ordering now, he's not going to lose out, then i'll take the option, sure i'd like to buy it cheaper, but i'd rather pay what the product is worth and Andy make something from it, than pre order for less and him losing out in the long run.

That. I was given a ballpark guesstimate on the potential costs and gave out the 100 based on that. I honestly didn't expect to get many orders, or at least not in the time frame that I thought the dragon would be finished in, ie about a month after that Salute  (2009). My main worry at the moment is that I don't have a clear cost for the finished thing and I may have way underpriced it with 100. And there are about 100 people who have placed a deposit over the last couple of years. I'm probably going to end up relying on people paying the full proper price to pay for the dragons already reserved as well as their own!

I am the master of all things financially stupid.

Surely not the only reason...  muahahahaha :drevil2:

I'll wait, and pay full price for my Dragon then.

But in the mean time, I need to sort out an order for some of Andy's  other stuff, which is a bugger as I don't get paid until the end of next week.  :blub:

Well possibly, but then you did need the cash at the time and so people who have pre-ordered were helping you out in the short term. Seems like there have been 2 'mistakes' that have cost you on this one: under-estimating the final cost of production and taking so long to finish (not blaming you, I know that a lot of other factors have conspired against you).

Perhaps the best option would be to set an end date now for the current pre-order price and of course, finish the dragon!

Then, when you are ready to ship and take final payments you could give the buyers the option of paying the last installment to 100 or to the final price. Sure, you may not get many takers, but at least people would feel comfortable pre-ordering now and not feel like they are ripping you off. People who have already pre-ordered (like me) would then be able to pay a little extra if their budget for toys allows.

I am glad that I did the pre-order.  When I did it I put the first two instalments of the payment through and it just happen to be a few weeks after the time that Andy said that he only had 7.76 to his name.  so if me sending him 60 helps him get by why should I complain.  Especially since it just means he can stay open and keep making kick ass models.

But it would still be nice to see some new pictures of the dragon
