The problem right now is everyone is too busy (all those Kickstarter projects you've been backing have booked  people up for months) to cast the dragon for me, so I'm looking at doing it myself now. I've spent the weekend immersing myself in research on the pressure-casting and vacuum-degassing processes (big thanks to Ian and to Jed at Antenociti's Workshop for advice, links and info) and it looks reasonably straightforward, the main problem is a complete lack of space in my workshop.

Seriously, I can barely find space to put my cup of coffee down at the moment, my little unit is quite literally packed to the roof with stuff. There's a big unit next door to mine that would be ideal but unless I can get an extra 500 of orders a month, there's no chance of me affording it (it's twice the size of my current one, which means not only twice the money but also business rates suddenly payable as it's over 1,000 sq ft. Frustrating. A Kickstarter would solve the issue but then everyone would complain about having waited for their dragons for 3 years and put everyone else off! (Quite rightly, too, I suppose).

I may have to close shop for a month just so I can load all the pots etc into my current metal-casting working area and not have to worry about the orders side of things for that time period... must be a way around it...

Hang in there Andy. I think anyone waiting can rest assured they will have a collectors item for all time. This is unlikely to ever be remade again given the trouble its caused. This should referred to as an Heirloom and fought over by relatives at the time of Will readings.

What about casting companies in China?
Not shure if that's a viable option, but perhaps it's worth looking into it...

If its any consolation to those still waiting. Its taken me this long to pick off where I left off working on this beasty. Just finishing off the claws
. So by the time you all get one, I may have even finished the prepping and basing of it.

Its well worth the wait.

That's small consolation but it's better than nothing.

Day 4 of The Great Workshop Resin Production Re-Organisation. I am 3 metres away from this computer. Thank Nerd for wireless keyboard, trackpad etc.

Expecting pressure pots 2 arrive in the next week or two, gearing up for Dragon production in-house. Spent last 3 days boxing up anything even slightly frivolous (so long, Conan, Cthulhu and GEARS reference action figures) to clear shelf space, and bought a load of new shelving and a workbench from machine mart to get extra workspace for resin process.

Lot of work ahead but excited about it! (Ask me again in a month or two when I'm likely writhing around in hatred of it)

Shouldn't be any interruption in orders just yet despite mess as have made sure printer etc all still set up. I am planning to take a couple of weeks 'off' from the orders, very soon, whilst I concentrate on making moulds etc and getting to grips with the resin process.

Funny you should say that. I just uncovered my sketches from 2003 for the Netherlady and a giant I plan to make. (On the wall behind some shelving I've moved)

(...)  whilst I concentrate on making moulds etc and getting to grips with the resin process.
Are you planning on remaking some of the bigger minis in resin, once the Dastardly Dragon of Doom and Despair finally submits to the dark arts of mould making and casting?
Could imagine that things like Azaroth or the fat Ogres would end up a bit cheaper, especially when it comes to shipping costs as those are partly based on weight.

Like beefcake already said: Good luck! You sure do deserve a big bag full of shiny good luck (and gold coins).

Yes, I plan to redo the two Netherlords, the Tunnel Dweller, Azaroth and some of the other figures where I think it would be worthwhile/public demands it. But mainly I want to do some new stuff as there's only so much you can retread old glories.

Did a quick sketch of an idea back in 2003, when I was planning on doing all 13 Netherlords and Netherladies and metal was the price of a packet of crisps. My sketching has always been...impressionistic... :erm:

I remember seeing this sketch not so long ago. It looks great, I really like her pose. Sounds good about the other demons put into resin as well. I'll be able to pick up the 2nd Netherlord then :)

I just thought I'd pipe up and post for the first time in frickin' years
Andy is probably feeling worse about the whole dragongate affair than you guys still waiting, patiently or not, for you dragon.

I was one of the lucky ones, I received my dragon (#21 I think) over 2 years ago.
It stuns me to think others are still waiting, and amazes me that most are waiting with good humour and patience.

All I can say is: The Dragon is worth the wait.

No other dragon I have ever worked with, including the magnificent Rackham Titan Dragon, Grenadier's ancient Tyranus the Ultimate Dragon, the Ral Partha Immerial Dragon, come close to this amazing sculpture.

Hang in there...it truly is awesome.

Good Luck Andy...

Heya Andy,

whats the word on the big lizard? I just moved home so whatever address details you have are wrong now, Not sure what my dragon number is these days, I know that the original list got shorter with some folk opting to have other stuff instead, I think it was 169 18 months ago.

Cheers
