Messages - ink the troll

ink the troll - well of course any help is very much welcome. Those are very nice! Do you wish them used as is, or should they be used as a starting point of a room yet to be created?

I'm making some rooms anyways. Since they probably won't see much use (if any) over here I figured I can just as well post them here so people can use them for playtesting the rules or whatever they wanna do with them.

Does anyone know where I could upload pdfs ( imageshack/ photobucket only allow uploading pics)? As that'd be a more convenient way of downloading the room tiles.

Have a nice holiday (I hope it's an recreational trip- if not have fun anyways)

Hm, Brussels sprouts with tons of cheese and mashed potatoes... I really shouldn't post when hungry.

678
not really finished, but since every once in a while I like to (ab)use the graphic software I got installed on my pc and I was making some rooms anyways (although right now it seems like I never gonna have time for rpg's again) I thought I'd ask...
Would stuff like that be of any use:

Laurel wreath I guess. Would be fitting somehow:
Quote
A laurel wreath is a circular wreath made of interlocking branches and leaves of the Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis, Lauraceae), an aromatic broadleaf evergreen. In Greek mythology, Apollo is represented wearing a laurel wreath on his head. In ancient Greece wreaths were awarded to victors, both in athletic competitions, including the ancient Olympics, and in poetic meets; in Rome they were symbols of martial victory, crowning a successful commander during his triumph. Whereas ancient laurel wreaths are most often depicted as a horseshoe shape, modern versions are usually complete rings.

Would adding a third level make things too complicated (don't know if this would fit into the template without making the navigation menu look too crowded and so on)?
Personally I think it would be more convenient if all the basing/ resin/ conversion stuff would be in one main category so this would be my suggestion:

1st level                               2nd Level                                        3rd Level

54mm

Questions and Answers / Re: Basing question
« on: June 30, 2008, 06:49:54 PM »
Or you could try some of that cheap air drying clay, some brands already have sort of a terracotta colour (would save time when painting).
Don't know how hard-wearing that stuff is though, so you probably should test it on some spare bases (and once dry drop them to the floor, attack them with a scalpel or similar).

683
:scratchhead: these jerks at eBay removed the auction because of frontal nudity.  :paranoid:

Frontal nudity sounds like the title of a magazine (and is a very stupid reason to remove an auction. Especially considering the subject/ size of what you're selling)

Suggestions (HF) / a mongolian/ oriental(ish) looking dwarf or three
« on: June 26, 2008, 10:42:03 PM »
I'd like to see some remotely Mongolian/ oriental dwarfs (probably I'm the only one, but I'll suggest them anyways). They'd make good enemies for the other dwarfs, could be used as additional Harem guards/mercenaries and would add a bit of variation to the hordes of mostly European dwarfs out there.
I guess two or three different poses/ weapons would be good. One more static/ standing guard, one attacking and one with a bow (admittedly mounted archers would be fun too but )

Not exactly a great piece of art, but it seemed easier than trying to describe what I mean or google for pics of something close to it:

686
Quite impressive.
The last pic looks like the head's on display at a taxidermist's place so all the customers and passerbys can watch the steady process of rebuilding it. (Well, thinking about it it's not that far off the truth anyways.)

The Colouring-in Room / Re: Sculpting stuff on my desk...
« on: June 26, 2008, 09:39:52 PM »
Harpy looks good, although I'm not convinced about the wings (the front part).

Fantasy Football stuff would work well with Heresy's DB range. Actually I like the Cyclops better than the 'normal' version (that's still on my to buy list).

The Hag looks promising, but the apron/skirt/cloththingy looks too inanimate as is. More like she's glued a piece of cardboard to her leg. I guess this will be an skirt when the hag's finished, so probably it'll end up looking good... Quite like the face on that old lady.

Funnily the gremlin's my favourite of the bunch. Would love to see that one finished!

Suggestions. (BS) / whalers/ harpooners
« on: June 26, 2008, 04:49:48 PM »
Some whalers/ harpooners (spelling?) 'armed' with everything from shoulder guns to the various types of knives used for cutting whales into small(ish) bits might be a nice addition to your range of naval themed minis.
Good for pulp games (and dioramas). I bet with some modification you could convert them into smugglers, too. So you could add a range of coastal brigands as well...

Ideas for New Heresy Models / Re: Ceros

After all that time I still like the idea.

Can you still remember who would wear what and when (I think I remember someone mentioning massai style stuff and clothes being more of an ceremonial/ decorative thing?)

You could also use the metal bottom/ top lids of some sweets' containers. Even better: they're also found on those cardboard tubes that are used for packaging whisk(e)y bottles... These are roughly 90 to 95 mm in diameter.

General Ranting / Re: when to call time on the hobby?
« on: June 22, 2008, 03:26:03 AM »
Don't quit. Bad idea. You'd just regret it later. Take a break instead (can be quite refreshing from time to time).
Painting - it's like a nasty disease that can't be cured, it's like a tattoo on your soul, a scar on your mind. You'll never get rid of the painting virus again. Sure, it may lay dormant for long periods of time but it's there. Hibernating, hibernating...

I can understand what you feel/ think. Well kind of - I don't have children to care for but taking care of someone that's suffering from alzheimer's is not exactly easy neither & is kind off comparable. Only difference is you see improvement – your kids grow up and thrive - where all I ever see is a permanently scared + confused person that's falling apart mentally and physically.
I haven't spent much time on painting in years but still every once in a while, when I' m not too stressed/ tired, actually manage to focus on something smaller than a zippo lighter and have my brushes and paints at hand I do paint. Not much, not often. Mainly Ogresized minis but at least it's something (not that I've actually managed to finish anythiny but hey...) Like you I hardly ever buy minis anymore- whenever I want to, there's always something more important like clothes, dentists' bills, furniture or simply rent/ food and to call me a lurker would be a gross exaggeration (just started frequenting forums again after months of absence).

The trick is to find something the right size and to remember you're painting the minis to do something for yourself:
- as a relief from stress (don't let standards- especially not your own* - get in to the way. If you don't like a paintjob then there's always the stripping jar- I know what I'm talking about since by now most of my minis have been stripped),
- as an outlet for all the creativity you have stored up deep inside ...

*too much pressure cripples the creative mind = that simply ain't no fun!

I reported the auction when I saw it this afternoon.  I find it hard to believe that this guy doesn't know that it's not a bloodbowl figure because he is also selling a human bloodbowl team (that looks like the GW one to me, but I could be wrong)
Reported them as well:
"This actually isn't a blood bowl miniature! It's not even produced/ manufactured by GW (Games Workshop).
It also isn't 'out of prodution' or 'very rare' as is stated in the item description. The miniature is readily available both from online & brick and mortar shops as well as directly from the manufacturer Hasslefree Miniatures (part of their Fantasy Football line)."

Hope that sounds/reads ok(ish)- been busy drinking today/ -night.

I guess clicking on the 'report this item' link would be the easiest way. Just scroll down the page.

« on: March 12, 2008, 12:20:56 PM »
[...] I'm musing on tails at the moment. IE whether or not I should do some to replace the stubby ones they have right now. On some of the poses it'd give more 'motion' to the sculpt, but on others it doesn't add much.

Maybe add  longer tails to the ones that are more in an 'action' pose/ benefit most from that little bit of extra motion and leave the others as is. Even more variety that way.

Some more links (probably should check if all the old links still work/ lead to where they're supposed to):

First off a book with some comparison pics of human & animal skeletons and Ellenberger's Animal Anatomy:
Hawkins, Benjamin Waterhouse : A comparative view of the human and animal frame (1860)

Ellenberger: Handbuch der Anatomie der Tiere für Künstler (Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists) very good illustrations of musculature/ skeleton featuring horse, cow, dog, lion, goat and deer click “ Browse the Veterinary Anatomical lllustrations  “ just below the headline

Some nice pics in this one, good for choosing a colour scheme:

[...] In fact, all of these are great. I can't believe you found so many - what terms did you enter into google? I tried running dog,  jumping dog, etc and got not much [...]

First I tried running dog too, but then slightly less obvious stuff like sled dog, working dog, military dog, hunting hounds or dog training.Did a search on flickr as well.
Amongst tons of absulutely useless stuff and some good pics I also ended up finding pics of the Hyena men of Nigeria
