Ideas for New Heresy Models / Re: Ceros
« on: July 15, 2008, 12:07:05 PM »
I just thought that probably the easiest and most logical way to have african styled ceros and 'samurhinos' (sorry, couldn't think of a better term) would be having two different breeds. Much like in reality where there's African and one-horned asian species (Javan, Indian).
That of course would mean more Ceros need to be sculpted...

@caerban: You'll have to post some wips once you have started sculpting yours

Questions and Answers / Re: Bust size?
« on: July 14, 2008, 06:10:20 PM »
There's quite a few out there in 1/10 or 1/8, I've seen some in 1/16 as well.

So I guess if 1/16 is what feels like the right size for the bust, then go for it. After all busts don't have to be ranked up like gaming purpose figs...

Samurai rhino...?

I see what you mean, though.  Looks good.  I was wondering about something maybe a bit more African, although that might be too obvious and I don't know if a fantasy rhino-man culture would strictly follow any RL human ones.
Is that pic/ link from a comic book?

Maybe there's a way to have non-african stuff. 'samurai' Ceros could be mercenaries fighting for (other) armies. Also: I bet if a slave trader would catch a young one he'd be well rewarded by some warlord planning to raise and train a formidable fighter for his army.

You may be right about African being a bit too obvious, I guess it depends on exactly what the ceros equipment will look like. For an extreme example: A full zulu warrior outfit would be too much (nevermind the fact the poor ceros probably would look somewhat silly) while using just certain parts like the shield/ spears would work.

Completely different idea for armour/ weapons: might be worth having a look at some neolithic and bronze age tools/weapons

Yep, that's one of the two worst ogre sculpts Citadel ever did (and the four to six ogres they did in the 90's in a similar style are all the worst ogre sculpts they ever did). That being said you've done a nice job of making an awful sculpt look less rubbish by at least giving it a decent paintjob. Well done.
I quite like them, got some of these meself. I bet some of the ones I really don't like would find your approval. These are good examples for figs you either love or hate.

I probably should clarify what I mean with simplified samurai armour:
Bogu, without the 'facemask' part on the helmet. Like worn for kendo and such.
example 1, example 2

Don't think too much armour would look good on them, maybe it could be made from wood/ leather/ bones.
On the other hand I think parts of (simplified) samurai armour might look interesting

You could try wiping the paint off as much as possible, then pour some nailpolish remover on a  piece of soft cloth.

Had that happen a while ago whith some white primer on a resin SD Pinhead (which was supposed to be a christmas present for my mum) and one of my tunnel dwellers. Only difference was that the primer blobs hardened very fast and did stick to the 'minis' like crazy. I haven't touched them again. Ever since that nasty primer incident I've been undercoating everything with brush-on primer...

a little more serious this time. How about something like this for younger ones, shapewise?
No arms and very sketchy, but I don't have more time now- gotta bring my grandma something to eat.

Does this look remotely like mushrooms and plants/ flowers?

Do you have a camera? Then you could take pics of the sketches

The Colouring-in Room / putty leftovers

What the title says. Being a bit curious I'd like to know: What do you do with those bits and blobs of putty you didn't use for filling gaps/ sculpting?

Mine usually end up as ugly slightly organic looking blobs, huge books or even less usefull things:

(I really have to spend some time figuring out how to properly use my newish camera for taking decent pics)

Plus when all communication is text based with no visual cues, it can be sometimes a bit hard to get the other persons veiwpoint as it was intended.
Add to that the fact that English isn't the mother tongue for all people that post stuff here.

Don't really know what arguments and grumpiness you're talking about though (must've skipped reading those topics unless you mean the never ending discussion on the size of space marines, which seems pretty civilised but slightly bizarre to me).

Ink the troll (is that legal?)
since I've never heard of a law against inking trolls, I guess as long as the troll doesn't fight back too much it's ok (it's actually just my name.Kind of. People usually either call me ink or troll, so...)

... nice sketch - not my cup of tea, but i wish i could sketch ...i'm envious.
Probably sketching just like almost everything else is mainly a matter of practicing. I'm not that good at it neither. (I actually don't like the face of that guy in the sketch.)

Some previews (smaller than original size-each square'd be 2,5cm). I figured I'd do two versions of the floor tiles- one with the 'silly bits' (the spiderwebs/ ghosts/ bones/ whatever) and one that's just the floors (the one with the altar would still have the furniture added though).
Third pics still very, very early wips. They'll end up as 'bridges'.

Any thoughts & suggestions?
Still have to do some cave floor/ lava sections. Possibly some ice& snow tiles too.

Oh and by the way, do people think it would look better with a gloss finish on the armour ?

Leave the armour as is. I think glossing it would mean losing some of that almost statuelike solid look which fits her quite well.
In the worst case it might end up looking like  she was wearing silk armour.

Looks like nothing's missing!

(with pics not showing and cameras not working, it seems like TDs are a bit shy when it comes to being on public display while still unassembled)

Er, yeah. Obviously a good casting apart from the total micast of the insect leg. I mean, that went without saying...Whistling

I'll replace that for you next time you order, just remind me at the time.
It's ok, I probably won't be using the legs (if any) on that one anyways

Ah, thought the part had broken off of the rightmost leg on the sprue.

(TD's either #85 or #376- bought two of them way back)

Have a look here for some inspiration (there's also a section with links to more sites with pics):
pics

(I kinda like this one, looks a bit like raw meat wearing a mouldy brain for a hat- but that's nowhere close to your initial idea of violet/ blue)

Send them to me and I'll put them on the Heresy site somewhere with a link from here.
I'll finish a few more than I got now, then send you a cd with the files (somehow I don't think sending 3 or 4 pdfs that even with some compression and up at ~1,5 MB each via email is such a great idea)

Not a good pic, but good enough to compare it to the bag of bits:

removed the pic since it's no longer needed

(the bit marked red broke off of one of the legs )
